Larch caterpillar control technology

Control of larch caterpillars begins with an introduction to trunk perimeter technology. First remove the old bark and sled bark of the perimeter trunk to make the trunk smooth, and then wrap the plastic film around the larch trunk for 2-3 circles. After the enclosure is done, use a stapler to nail the membrane firmly. Then, cut off the excess plastic film. This method of prevention and control is lower in cost and more effective than the use of chemical control, and is a good method that is both economical and does not pollute the environment.

The use of trunk perimeter technology should pay attention to: the height of the perimeter is generally 1.3-1.5 meters, but also staggered tree nodes. The width of the plastic film should be about 7 cm, so that the larch caterpillar can neither climb over nor waste the film. The width of the old bark removed from the trunk cannot be less than 7 cm. The plastic film should be densely contacted, leaving no gaps in the middle to prevent caterpillars from burrowing through the plastic film and the trunk. The tightness of the binding is based on the transverse folding of the plastic film. The indenter at the film joint should be about 1.5 cm, but not more than 2 cm. The direction of the joint should be located in the northeast direction to prevent wind and sun and improve the service life of the film.

Secondly, the integrated management technology of Larch caterpillar is introduced:

Close the mountains and cultivate forests. Logging and grazing should be prohibited on sparsely forested land, broad-leaved tree species should be cultivated, and understory vegetation should be protected.

Biocontrol. In the forest stands with low insect population density and large forest age, nest boxes can be set up to attract beneficial birds. At the peak of pine caterpillar eggs, red-eyed wasps are administered. In the larval stage, zombies and Bacillus thuringiensis are administered.

Physical control. Use black light to lure the worms. Larvae are controlled using trunk perina technology.

Pharmaceutical control. For pine caterpillars that overwinter in the lower tree, before going up the tree in the spring and falling down in the autumn, they can take poisonous pens, poisonous paper, poisonous ropes, etc. made of pyrethroid agents on the trunk of the tree to poison and kill the larvae of the tree that overwinter and the tree. Pre-middle-aged larvae were controlled with urea, 2000 times spray of bellicide or 800 times liquid with 1.2% nicotinine.
