author:Lin Hai Daily

Recently, the Forestry and Grassland Development Center of Yakeshi City has carried out smoke control operations by hanging artificial bird nests to attract beneficial birds and carry out smoke control operations to control larch caterpillars to alleviate the harm caused by larch caterpillars to grass and trees, and maintain the low-level dynamic balance of pest populations.

They hang bird nests in the larch artificial public welfare forest around FenghuangShan Scenic Area, Xinglonggou, Nuanquantun, Hongqigou, Nanbohe, Wuduhe Coal Mine, Diyingzi, Wuduhe Farm, and Tongmine Ditch, with a hanging height of 4 to 5 meters from the ground, a distance between bird nests of 40 to 50 meters, and the direction of the nest mouth to the east, south or the same as the slope direction, on average, 1 bird's nest is hung on average every 10 acres of forest, a total of more than 1,000 hanging, and the control area is more than 10,000 mu. The birds that feed on larch caterpillars in these areas are dominated by grey magpies. Hanging bird nests are a kind of biological control method, the purpose of which is to provide habitat for birds, increase the population of birds in the forest, play a natural regulatory role, and establish a healthy forest ecosystem.

The staff of the center and the members of the Yake Stone Forest Farm Quick Flutter Team carry out smoke control operations at 2 a.m. every day in the larch forest around the Phoenix Mountain Scenic Area, Hongqigou and Nanbo River. In order to avoid the danger of igniting weeds, the control personnel put the matrine niacin into a prepared iron barrel and lit it, and the released smoke covered the entire pine forest. Prevention and control personnel monitor the release of tobacco agent throughout the process, and after the smoke agent is burned, the ashes are buried uniformly to eliminate potential safety hazards.
