The film was released in the same year, and more than 450 copies of the film were sold in the mainland, which was a sensation.
"Sword Saint" Yu Chenghui starred as the protagonist for the first time, and the joining of Yu Hai, Ji Chunhua, Xiong Xinxin, Hu Jianqiang, Sun Jiankui, Liu Huailiang and other well-known masters in the mainland martial arts industry is a highlight of the film.
In the film, martial arts and weapons are extremely exquisite, and special weapons such as double-headed knife drills, double-stranded swords, chain hammers, flying claws, and meteor hammers appear, which are known as rare arsenals in martial arts movies.
To this day, the film still exudes a unique charm.
However, in these 32 years, many years have passed. Some people have passed away, some people have retreated, and some people are still shining in the film and television circle.
Thirty years of Hedong, thirty years of Hexi, the world is uncertain, not we ordinary people can speculate.
I. Yu Chenghui (Yellow River Hero Ma Yi)
Before being discovered by director Zhang Xinyan, Yu Chenghui, who retired due to injury, only hoped to become a martial arts instructor in the Ningxia Wushu Team.
The "Shaolin Temple" trilogy made zhang Xinyan and Liu Jialiang both admire him very much, and director Zhang Xinyan tried his best to stand up to him as the protagonist in the Yindu institution.
At that time, Yu Chenghui was more than 40 years old, but he was still extraordinary, coupled with his own heroism, standing in front of the camera without anger and threat, the image and temperament were convincing.
After the decline of martial arts movies in the mainland, he turned to the development of the television circle, playing mostly famous martial arts figures or master roles, such as The Old Ancestor of the Huashan Sect, Feng Qingyang, the Eastern Evil Yellow Medicine Master, the Taoist thinker Fu Qingjue, the Excalibur Immortal Ape Mu Renqing, the Sword and Bloodless Feng Xifan, Ip Man, Zhang Sanfeng, Hu Yanzan, etc.
However, Yu Chenghui's lifelong wish is to play the martial arts legendary iron arm Zhou Tong, and he left a pair of beards in his later years to prepare for this role, but unfortunately he failed to achieve his wish in the end.
On July 4, 2015, Yu Chenghui died of lung disease at the age of 76.
II. Ji Chunhua (Liu Wangye)
A serious illness at the age of 17 caused Ji Chunhua to lose his hair and eyebrows forever, and later he was dissuaded by his martial arts team because of his fierce image.
However, "Sai Weng lost his horse, Yan Zhi is not blessed", it is such an image of him, but he was photographed by director Zhang Xinyan, and when he was 21 years old, he got the opportunity to play the villain Vulture in "Shaolin Temple".
Because of this image, Ji Chunhua became an eternal villain in the martial arts film and television works of the era.
In his lifetime, he starred in as many as 70 works, of which only a few positive characters were found.
Most of the villains will die a miserable death in the end, and he will not only not mind, but also call this "Propagation of the Law".
He believes that every time he is "magnificent" in film and television works, he is warning the world not to do bad people and bad things, and those who do bad things only have a dead end.
Therefore, he will study various "ways to die" in order to bring freshness to the audience, rather than a knife.
Finally, Ji Chunhua, who had played a bad person all his life, was diagnosed with advanced lung cancer in 2018 and died less than 3 months later at the age of 57.
His departure also took away an era of martial arts movies.
Although he plays many villains, Ji Chunhua has been a hero all his life, and he is called a hero.
3. Chun Yu Shanshan (Jianghu Artist Che Tian)
Because of Jet Li's absence, the role of Che Tian fell into the hands of Chun Yu Shanshan.
At that time, he was also in the Comrades-in-Arms Song and Dance Troupe of the Beijing Military Region, although he did not have a foundation in martial arts, his dance skills were also excellent, and the difficult movements in the film could basically be completed without a stand-in.
After "The Yellow River Hero", he starred in "The Thief of Change", and the funny thief Bao De in the film was equally impressive.
Although Chun Yu Shanshan has always focused on the mainland, because of his good image and temperament, he is not picky in filming, and he has been active in the film and television circle since the late 1980s.
4. Yu Hai (Chaired by Miaofa Temple)
Yu Hai and Yu Chenghui are two "extremes", and when Yu Chenghui plays the villain, Yu Hai plays the role of a master.
Because of his kind eyebrows and good eyes, he is suitable for positive characters, and he has never played a villain role since the film.
In "Yellow River Hero", he rarely has no action scenes, but he plays a very important role in the story, and heals the eyes of the male protagonist Ma Yi.
After this movie, Yu Hai also got the opportunity to play the male lead, playing the Tongtian Elder of the True Buddha Temple in "Tongtian Elder".
With the reduction of mainland action movie production, he also shifted his focus to TV dramas, and has cooperated with Wu Jing many times, although there are not many works in the performance, but it is very impressive to the audience.
At the end of 2001, Yu Hai and his son Yu Tao established the Yu's Wushu Cultural Exchange Center in Weihai, Shandong Province, which is the first education center in China to focus on martial arts education.
Yu Hai also gradually retired after participating in the TV series "Mine Warfare" in 2015.
V. Hu Jianqiang (Young Swordsman)
Hu Jianqiang's role in the "Shaolin Temple" trilogy has always been in an "upward trend".
In "Shaolin Temple", it is only The brother of the Monk Jueyuan, Wukong; in "Shaolin Boy", he becomes the second uncle of the three dragons, and is also paired with the erfeng played by the goddess Ding Lan; Zhao Wei, a disciple of the Southern Shaolin layman who is promoted to a role similar to Jet Li in "North and South Shaolin", and finally with Sima Yan, played by the heroine Huang Qiuyan.
Hu Jianqiang's image is also very outstanding, originally according to this trend of development, the development space of that year was no smaller than Jet Li.
Unfortunately, when it came to "Yellow River Hero", the role was pitiful, and then he went to Japan to participate in the kung fu film "Shogunate", which was extremely well-known, and after these two films, he retired behind the scenes and became a martial arts instructor.
It is said that in the 1994 Liu Jialiang film "Drunken Fist 3", Hu Jianqiang participated in the action design, but he has not played a role again.
In 1995, he immigrated to the United States and continued to work in martial arts promotion and education.
Hu Jianqiang has not gained more development in the film circle, which is also a pity.
VI. Liu Huailiang (Li Wangye's staff)
Liu Huailiang has only participated in two films, "Shaolin Temple" and "Yellow River Hero".
In "Shaolin Temple", in fact, he played two important roles at the same time, one of which was to play Jueyuan's father Shen Leg Zhang at the beginning; after Shen Leg Zhang was killed, he played the empty monk in the Shaolin Temple.
In "The Hero of the Yellow River", Liu Huailiang played an aide of Li Wangye and participated in some of the play.
He didn't seem to have much passion for acting, and after making this film, he quit the film industry.
VII. Sun Jiankui (Li Wangye's staff)
Another of Li Wangye's staff members was played by Sun Jiankui.
Sun Jiankui and Jet Li have a good relationship, and have also participated in many of his films, playing the role of villains.
In 1995, Sun Jiankui was elected deputy secretary-general of the Shandong Wushu Sports Association, and in the same year, he entered the Songshan Shaolin Temple under the abbot Su Xi and became an authentic Shaolin monk with the legal name of Shi Desheng.
Over the years, Sun Jiankui has occasionally participated in movies, but there are not many works, and 2014's "White-Haired Witch's Bright Moon Heavenly Kingdom" is his last appearance on the screen.
VIII. Xiong Xinxin (Cockfighting Eye)
The most surprising thing is that Xiong Xinxin also participated in the film, playing a kung fu boy with cockfighting eyes, which is his first role with a name.
Jet Li was in a state of recuperation when filming "North and South Shaolin", so he asked Xiong Xinxin, who was a martial arts instructor in Liuzhou, to be his stand-in.
Liu Jialiang admired him very much and soon invited him to Hong Kong to participate in "Tiger Out of the Change", but it was only a dragon set role.
In "The Yellow River Hero", he had a funny scene and a large section of martial arts, which was the first time he could "show" in front of the camera.
It was not until 1991 that she participated in "Huang Feihong" that Xiong Xinxin gradually changed from a stand-in to an actor.
Today, Xiong Xinxin is already a well-known kung fu film director in mainland China, and his most recent work is 2017's "Young Hero Good Kung Fu".
Movies are the best carrier for martial arts publicity and promotion, and many martial artists have gained a certain degree of popularity because they have participated in kung fu movies, and the development of the martial arts community has also been smoothed.
Many actors in "Yellow River Hero", although they have not achieved better development in the film circle, have continued to shine in the martial arts world and contribute to the promotion of Chinese martial arts.
