Remember "Hunting" with a Douban score of 9.1? In complex societies, people's cruelty, fear and evasion in the face of "verbal violence" are shocking. In last year's "Sinner", an operator vividly presented the case of a kidnapped woman through a few phone calls, so that people were impressed by the imagination of the screenwriter, and it was not easy for small-budget films to be so twisted and moving, and the two films had one thing in common, that is, they were danish films.
The film I want to talk about today has the same effect as the above two films, the same Danish film, which contains growth, fate, and philosophical reflections, allowing us to feel the industrialization process of this magical country in nearly three hours.
The story is based on a novel, inseparable from the author's own experience, and reflects a time limited to Denmark at the end of the nineteenth century. As the world's most economically developed and top five capitalist countries in terms of social welfare system, Denmark's industrialization process is enviable, and among them, there will be many forerunners who have laid a solid foundation for the construction of the country, including a young man named Bill.
A big reason I like this movie is its "neo-realism", if Bill, like "The Boy Driving the Wind", learns scientific knowledge by making windmills to complete the transformation of fate, I think its practical significance can only be limited to the good and inspiring sense of the movie. After watching "Lucky Pierre", you will find it difficult to describe this feeling, and the first thing that brings us to think about whether Pierre is really lucky.
Repeating the topic of "you are lucky" countless times in the film, Pierre rampages through the porcelain shop like a bison, rebelling against his parents' belief in Christianity, subverting the public's vision of love, and even in his career development, he did not complete the overall transformation of the Danish windmill plus river transport system because of his indifference. His spontaneous efforts allow us to see the innocence of the child, but this innocence does not protect him, but deeply hurts him. Did he concede defeat? No.
Even if he is dying of old age, Pierre still regards the construction of the motherland as a lifelong wish, so that the viewer can feel the bad luck of fate, every country will experience the transformation of agriculture to industrialization, Denmark can be said to be one of the earliest batch, there is a saying that this is: "one step earlier than the times is called advanced, two steps earlier is called pioneer, three steps earlier is called pioneer, four steps earlier is called martyr." Pierre's ideas seemed to have strong practical significance at the time, but they were too advanced, so they became martyrs. If delayed by twenty or thirty years, he may become a leading figure in the industrialization of the country, of course, history will not have any chance of assumptions.
Religion in the film has too heavy ink, there is a criticism of Christianity, Pierre is tired of Jesus, he thinks that Christianity is across the gap between him and his father, so the father died, he did not attend the funeral, but Jesus will not give up any of his people, just as the father did not give up his son when he died, he left the ancestral table to the son. His mother died suddenly, and Pierre didn't want to attend the funeral, because of dignity! He could not let go of his prejudice against Christianity, but under the persuasion of his brother, he repented and hated himself who threw stones at Jesus to marry a Jewish girl.
What's so bad about Jacobs? She was kind and dignified, and predicted at the banquet that "there would be flying vehicles, and industrialization would make society better", and her foresight attracted Bill, and if Bill was lucky, it must be because Jacob was unlucky. She went from being held hostage by the young man's amazing imagination to a woman who fell into the world, which also revealed the different views of women and men on their feelings. Once a woman falls in love, she will be desperate to think about her lover. But Pierre's "sudden awakening" made no sense. He clearly has an empathetic fiancée and a thriving career, but it turns into a bubble in so-called "wishful thinking".
In the film, he has three girlfriends, only Inge married him and gave birth to three children, the film dilutes his relationship with Inge, but deepens the misfortune of the first two girlfriends, one thinks that he fully supports his studies, and pays for his body to return to a man who loves himself, one who has a huge family property and is pregnant with him, and bitterly persuades him to compromise a little, in exchange for a sentence of "inappropriate".
I prefer to understand that Pierre chose to let go because of the guilt of his parents, but his approach is not a responsible performance, which is not respectful enough for women with the same intentions, so his "luck" is relative, this luck is based on the pain of others, and there is a strong sense of paranoia. And when he turns from luck to misfortune, you find that his pride and stubbornness can be changed! Before asking him to apologize to government officials, he refused to die, but when he couldn't even sell his suit, he could condescend and admit his mistake, but it was too late, and this ironic effect abounded in the film.
Things that are easily obtained are often not cherished. Pierre's case is too typical. In the society at that time, the priests themselves and the upper class could not be reconciled, but the enlightened Jacobs parents not only accepted him, but also paid for him, but he did not cherish the wise Jacobs. Jacob, after experiencing the setbacks of love, instead devoted herself to education, and even built schools with all her family property, she also had moments of being misunderstood by Christians, and the trust of Judaism made him deeply imprisoned, but she never gave up, shouldn't this kind of girl be a model for us to learn? Not humble, not arrogant, self-improvement. Contributing her limited life to more hope for the future, I am willing to see her as an angel, burning herself to illuminate others, admirable.
"Lucky Pierre" advocates equality for all, but this story is sadly regrettable. In his later years, when the bearded Bill was willing to donate all the 12,600 crowns he had in his life to Jacob's school, there was remorse and apology, as well as their whole life. Together, they represent the Danish youth who demanded progress, but their fates were not the same, with Jacob turning into spring mud and Pierre leaving behind a pile of drawings, leaving unattainable ideals.
No matter from which dimension, this film is a thorough depiction of Denmark a hundred years ago, without exaggeration and concealment, "this is the worst era, but also the best era", without these young people, I am afraid that Denmark would not become such a highly industrialized country, a person's perception of himself is constantly being corrected, Bill recognized his mistakes in his later years, I believe that he and Jacob will not regret it, and this is the outstanding representative of neorealism.
