"Li Yiting: From Prodigy to Master" Chapter 10 Preparing for the Establishment of "Wuhan Chess Club"

The first stage is divided into four competition areas of Shenyang, Xi'an, Wuhan and Shanghai, of which the Wuhan division has a total of eight chess players from Wuhan, Chongqing, Chengdu, Nanning, Guiyang, Kunming, Changsha and Guangzhou, resulting in the top four qualifiers. The competition began on October 20 and ended on october 29, with the result that Guangzhou Yang Guanxuan, Chen Hongjun, Wuhan Li Yiting and Yuan Qizi stood out from this division and qualified for the second stage final.

The second stage was held in Shanghai on November 8, with a total of 16 people in the four divisions, and one more person from the host Shanghai, a total of 17 people competed fiercely. The biggest difference between this tournament and the previous final stage is that it has been changed to a one-game round robin, and a special clock for chess matches has been prepared. National competitions are becoming more and more standardized.

Li Yiting returned to Shanghai full of hope, and threw himself into the game with the idea of playing better than the previous edition. In the first few rounds, his record was good, and everything seemed to be going well, but as the battle situation became more and more intense, Li Yiting's thoughts of gain and loss came out again, which led to a more serious consequence: he began to lose sleep and could not sleep all night.

In anxiety, at night, he went to bed early and tried to make himself sleep a little more, but to no avail, the more he wanted to sleep, the more awake he was without a trace of sleepiness. In desperation, he had to save the power of the drug. He went to the general infirmary to ask for some sleeping pills, which did help him sleep a little, but the consequent side effects were good for a chess player: his head was groggy all day.

With such a physical and mental condition, how can you play such an important game well? Li Yiting's record immediately collapsed. One of the most typical sets is his teammate Yuan Qizi. In the middle of the game, Li Yiting couldn't even see the chess pieces of the other side's horse stepping on his own cart, and he quickly lost the battle.

It was difficult to support until the end of the whole competition, Li Yiting's final ranking was only ninth, and the results were certainly not ideal. Veteran Yang Guanxuan successfully defended his title, once again showing his superior strength, and also made Li Yiting have to admire.

After returning from the national competition, Li Yiting began to prepare for the establishment of a chess club. As mentioned earlier, at this time, the Wuhan chess world was becoming more and more prosperous, and the chess activities of various cultural palaces were carried out with great momentum, but the only regret was that there was no central place in the city, and high-level chess players lacked a fixed place for exchanges and competitions. People have always wanted to change this situation, but they don't have the power to do so.

Once, the Wuhan Municipal Sports Commission held a chess tournament on The Cooperation Road, during which Zhou Ningfang, head of the competition section of the Municipal Sports Commission, convened a meeting of people in the chess community to discuss how to develop chess activities better. Li Yiting immediately proposed that Wuhan should have a central place for chess activities, so that a joint force can be formed and the life of chess players can be arranged. Zhou Ningfang listened, deeply agreed, and said that he should immediately grasp this work, and if there are difficulties in funding, the Municipal Sports Committee can solve it.

In order to give this center a name, everyone debated for a long time at that time, and then decided to call it "Wuhan Chess Club", because there were many chess clubs in the Soviet Union at that time, and under the influence of this atmosphere, they felt that this name was just in line with the spirit of "learning from the Big Brother of the Soviet Union".

The establishment of the Wuhan Chess Club progressed smoothly and rapidly, and by the end of this year, Li Yiting rented a room on behalf of the Municipal Sports Committee at the entrance of Youyi Street, which was a building facing the street, and the club was located on the first floor, about 40 square meters, usually as a chess room, there are two kinds of chess and Go. The club's start-up funds are provided by the Competition Section of the Municipal Sports Commission, mainly for renting and purchasing necessary items such as chess equipment, tables and chairs. But the sports committee's funding was only a one-time investment, as the club quickly became self-sufficient. The club's acceptance situation will be reported to the sports committee once a month in the future, but the sports committee does not want this money, but leaves it to the club at its own disposal. Such preferential policies have created good conditions for the healthy development of the club.

The daily work of the club was first taken care of by Du Wantian and Zhou Weibin, and later Du was invited by other units to be an accountant and left. Zhou Weibin also died soon after, and it was Yuan And his wife who took over.

The chess club is the first official chess organization in Wuhan Coin, coupled with the "convergence" of a big country such as Li Yiting, its status as a "center" was quickly established, and its influence in the Wuhan chess world was also increasing. At that time, there were no professional teams in chess, and chess players were usually engaged in work that had nothing to do with sports, but only concentrated for a short period of time when they wanted to play important games. Now it is different, after the establishment of the club, to a certain extent, it has played the role of a professional team, and the chess players usually consciously gather to communicate and compete.

The club became more and more prosperous, its reputation spread far and wide, and later it was very influential in the central and southern regions, and many famous players in some surrounding provinces and cities, such as Hunan and Sichuan, were looking for chess skills here. Unfortunately, at the beginning of the Cultural Revolution, the club bore the brunt of the impact and eventually smashed the group. There is also a twisty and moving story, and Li Yiting has also carried the "black cauldron" for many years. This is a postscript, not a table for the time being.

In January 1958, Li Yiting's first chess book, "Patrolling River Cannon vs. Screen Horse" (part 1), was officially published by the Shanghai Culture Publishing House, with a print run of 15,000 copies. The whole book analyzes and discusses the various changes of the middle artillery patrol cannon to the screen ma zuo full river patrol, and a total of 11 categories and 33 plates are transformed into a total of 11 categories and 33 plates. In the preface. Li Yiting described himself this way: "When I was 12 years old, I was inextricably linked to chess. "I'm a beginner to write, and I'm also a young chess player with little chess skills. It took eight months to complete the work conscientiously..." Expressing his awe at the sacred cause of model art.

"River Cannon vs. Screen Horse" (part 1) was well received by people in the chess community, and people were concerned about when the next episode of the book would be published. In fact, this is also the work that Li Yiting has been worrying about and carrying out. Over the years, he has always paid attention to the collection and collation of materials, and carefully prepared for the next episode of writing. Therefore, when the Shanghai Culture Publishing House asked Li Yiting for a manuscript again that year, he quickly accepted it and successfully wrote the manuscript the following year and handed it to the publishing house. Unfortunately, the book was not yet published, the Cultural Revolution began, and things were shelved. After the end of the Cultural Revolution, Li Yiting thought that he had the hope of publishing a book again, so he wrote to the publishing house many times to inquire about the whereabouts of the manuscript. At this time, the person in charge of this work has been replaced, and the editor who took over said that as early as a few years ago, all the manuscripts of foreign authors had been returned one after another, and Li Yiting's had already been sent to the Hubei Provincial Sports Committee. Afterwards, Li Yiting went to the Provincial Sports Committee many times to look for it, but where did he see the shadow of this manuscript? In this way, the whereabouts of this book excerpt are still a big unsolved case.

Li Yiting could have imagined that there would be such a change, and he had to regret his lack of experience at the beginning, did not leave a manuscript, and all his chess materials were scattered during the Cultural Revolution, and he was really powerless and had no intention of writing this book from scratch.

This is also a thing that Li Yiting has felt great regret all his life.
