During the more than 260 years of the reign of the Edo shogunate (1603-1868), there were about 500 large and small domains in Japan before and after, and on average, there were about 270 domains in each era, so there was the name of "Edo Shogunate Three Hundred Domains", and today we will introduce the Sunrise Domain.

Kyushu Domains
The Sunrise Domain was a clan of the Kyushu region of the Edo period, the lord of the domain was the Kinoshita clan, the domain was located in The Toyoko Kingdom, Sumi County, and the domain was Sunrise Castle.
Mr. Kinoshita Family
Speaking of the Kinoshita clan, friends who are familiar with a little Japanese history, the first thing that comes to mind is Kinoshita Fujiyoshiro (later Toyotomi Hideyoshi), yes, here it is said that the Kinoshita clan is a relative of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and also the main family of Toyotomi Hideyoshi's main room Takadai-in, and toyotomi Hideyoshi gave the honmei brother of the main house Takadai-in as the Kinoshita clan and changed his name to Kinoshita Ieyasu. Kinoshita's fifth son, Kinoshita Nobutoshi, was raised by his side and was repeatedly rewarded by Hideyoshi, and by the time hideyoshi died, he had become the daimyō of 20,000 stones in Miki-gun, Banmo Kingdom. (PS: Kinoshita Also has a brother namely Hideaki Kohayakawa, one of the "Three Gods of Sekigahara").
Toyotomi Hideyoshi
In 1600, the conflict between the Bunji and the arbitrary faction within the Toyotomi clan intensified, and the Battle of Sekigahara eventually broke out, in which Kinoshita Nobutoshi did not remain as neutral as his father Kinoshita Ieyasu, but from the beginning joined the eastern army led by Tokugawa Ieyasu, and after the victory of the Kanshin War, Kinoshita Took part in the subsequent battles of Tanabe Castle and Fukuchiyama Castle in the process of pursuing the daimyo of the Western Army, and because of the merits of these battles, he was added to the 30,000-stone domain of Bungo Kunisaisumi County in 1601. In the following year of his enlistment, Yanjun built Sunrise Castle as a residence castle in his domain, and his domain was called "Sunrise Domain", and Kinoshita Nobutoshi was the original lord of The Sunrise Domain.
Gaotaiyuan (Ningning)
In 1614, in order to eliminate the Toyotomi clan, the Tokugawa shogunate fought the Battle of Osaka, but Hidetoshi Kinoshita, who was a relative of the Toyotomi clan during the battle, took aim at the Toyotomi clan as the Tokugawa military.
Kinoshita Ikusei
In 1632, The lord of Higo-Kumamoto Domain, Kato Tadahiro, was relegated, and Kinoshita Nobutoshi and inaba Kazutoshi, the lord of the neighboring clan Ofuski Domain, were stationed at Yatsuyo Castle.
In 1637, the Shimabara Rebellion broke out, and Kinoshita, like many Kyushu daimyōs, sent troops to Shimabara and participated in the counter-rebellion.
Hideaki Kobayakawa
In 1642, Kinoshita Nobutoshi died at the age of 66, and according to his last words, his third son, Kinoshita Shunji, succeeded to the throne as governor of the family and became the second lord of the Sunrise Domain, while his fourth son, Kinoshita Nobuji (延由), received 5,000 stones from the Standing Stone of Sumi Prefecture and founded the Kinoshita clan of the Fenjia Banner. (There is a legend that Kinoshita Nobuji was Kunimatsu, the son of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, but the author does not think it is very credible.

During his tenure, Kinoshita Shunji introduced "Shichishima orchid" from Satsuma Domain as a material for tatami mats in order to develop the economy, and worked to localize "Shichishima orchid".
In 1656, after the death of Higenno Yoshiaki, the lord of the Bungo Domain, the Fuuchi Domain was changed, and Kinoshita Shunji, together with Matsudaira Hideyoshi, the lord of the Kitsuchi Domain, took over the reception of the Fuuchi Domain.

In 1661, Kinoshita Toshiharu died suddenly at the age of 48 in Mikawa Kunikawa while on his way to attend the work. The position of governor was inherited by his third son, Kinoshita Shunnaga, who was the third lord of the Sunrise Domain. Kinoshita Shuncho's succession to the town of Nichika castle was renovated and expanded, and although he himself did not leave any bad political records, during his reign, there was an incident in which the people of the Sunrise Domain fled to the neighboring clan, and Kinoshita Shuncho conducted self-reflection.
In 1707, Kinoshita Shuncho's position as hermitage and governor was inherited by his eldest son Kinoshita Shunji, who was the fourth generation lord of the Sunrise Domain, and during his tenure, in order to control the flooding problem in the territory, kinoshita Shunjiro managed the rivers such as Nagakawahara and Tomichi Pond in the domain, and finally succeeded, greatly reducing the flood problem in the territory.

In 1729, Kinoshita Toshitoshi died at the age of 58, and was succeeded by his sixth son, Kinoshita Toshiza, who was the fifth lord of the Sunrise Domain. Kinoshita Shunben was weak and ill, and succeeded him as lord of the domain for only 2 years, but died in 1731 at the age of 18 and was childless, and the position of governor was inherited by his uncle Kinoshita Toshiho, who was the sixth lord of the Sunrise Domain. Kinoshita Shunho was originally adopted by the branch clan Kimoto Kinoshita Nagayoshi and succeeded to the throne, (not kinoshita Nobuji's family, but the Kishimoto Kinoshita clan, the sixth son of the original lord Kinoshita Nobutoshi, as the ancestor of the family, 300 taels, and it is said that these 300 taels are how many of them are), but due to the death of Kinoshita Shunzai, Kinoshita Junbao returned to the family, and the Kishimoto branch was thus severed.
Sunrise City Ruins
During His time in office, due to the impact of the Great Famine of Yuho, the Sunrise Domain suffered huge losses, and had to borrow 3,000 taels from the shogunate to alleviate the financial pressure within the domain, and in order to rebuild the finances, he began to issue the domain in order to rebuild the finances.
In 1738, Kinoshita Toshiho died. He died at the age of 33 and was childless, and was succeeded by his ungrouped Kinoshita Shunjian, who was the seventh generation lord of the Sunrise Domain. Kinoshita Shunsuke is the son of Kinoshita Shunji, the brother of Kinoshita Toshiho, the fourth generation lord of the clan, and the younger brother of the fifth generation lord Kinoshita Toshizai.
However, just over three years later (early 1742), Kinoshita died young at the age of 19. The position of governor was inherited by his younger brother Kinoshita Shuno, who was the eighth lord of the Sunrise Domain.
Ghost gate
Kinoshita Shunnō, like his brothers, did not live long, and died 10 years later at the age of 24, succeeding him as governor of the house as the ninth lord of the Sunrise Domain.
Although Kinoshita Toshita did not live as short as his brothers, and did not live until his death in 1768 at the age of 43, he had no heirs, so the position of governor was inherited by his adopted son Kinoshita Shunyin, who was the tenth lord of the Sunrise Domain. Kinoshita Toshitoshi was the son of Toda Tadamu, the lord of the Shimono Kuni Utsunomiya Domain, and married Kinoshita Toshita's adopted daughter as shomuro, and the male bloodline of the Sunrise Domain was transferred to the Hands of the Toda clan. Whining and mourning, Kinoshita Toshigeto gave birth to so many sons, either died young or had no heirs, which is really regrettable.
Kinoshita Toshitoshi can be described as both literary and martial arts, in martial arts he is very good at equestrianism, swordsmanship and marksmanship, has reached the level of exemption from permission, literary he studied under Ito Kanezo, and has been able to serve as a lecturer, educate the clan of the clan, and he himself also painted works such as the "Thousand Body Kannon Album".
Castle Keep
However, the curse of short life did not dissipate, and in 1776, Kinoshita Toshitoshi died, and he only lived for 30 years, and the position of governor was inherited by his eldest son Kinoshita Toshima, who was the eleventh generation lord of the Sunrise Domain.
After Kinoshita Shunmao succeeded to the throne, due to the untimely death of several generations of lords of the sunrise domain, the domain became extremely chaotic, and the financial situation continued to deteriorate, so after Kinoshita Toshiki grew up and pro-government, in order to rebuild the domain and implement reforms in the domain, he implemented the policy of "breeding and rejuvenating the industry" to vigorously develop the paper industry, and carried out the water conservancy treatment project of Tazhiheike. In addition, in terms of education, he founded the clan school Jikodo to educate the children of the clan, and through this series of reforms, the financial situation of the Sunrise Clan has improved slightly.
In 1810, Kinoshita Shunmao lived in seclusion, and the position of governor was succeeded by his second son Kinoshita Toshira, who was the twelfth generation lord of the Sunrise Domain, but unfortunately a short-lived lord.
In 1815, Kinoshita Toshiryo died at the age of 21, and the position of governor was inherited by his brother Kinoshita Shundō, who was the thirteenth lord of the Sunrise Domain. At this time, the financial situation of the Sunrise Domain became quite poor, and in order to get rid of the status quo and rebuild the domain, Kinoshita Shundō began to carry out the reform of the clan from 1832, but the reform soon failed, but he later used Seki Katsuyuki to carry out the new feudal reform in 1835, but it still had little effect.
Shunsun Kinoshita
In 1847, Kinoshita Shundō lived in seclusion on the grounds of illness, and the position of governor was inherited by his second son, Kinoshita Toshikata, who was the fourteenth generation lord of the Sunrise Domain, but Kinoshita Toshikata was born frail and sickly, so the clan was still in the hands of Kinoshita Shundō.
In 1854, Kinoshita Toshikata died at the age of 25, and was succeeded by his younger brother Kinoshita Toshitoshi, who was the fifteenth generation lord of the Sunrise Domain.
During his tenure, Kinoshita toutomi worked on the popularization of education within the domain, and he further expanded the domain school's ancient hall, converted it into a fatal hall, and created a martial arts dojo in the domain, and set up a visionary office in the domain to prevent foreign ships from invading, and carried out military reform.
In 1867, Kinoshita Shuncheng lived in seclusion due to illness and gave the position of governor to his younger brother Kinoshita Shunjin (kinoshita Toshitoshi), the sixteenth generation of the Sunrise Domain and the last lord of the domain. Soon Kinoshita died at the age of 35. (PS: The familiar scene seems to have reappeared)
During Kinoshita Toshina's tenure, due to the influence of the chaos at the end of the shogunate, the Sunrise Domain split into two factions, the Samuku faction and the Emperor Faction, and finally under the leadership of Kinoshita Toshiyuki, the Emperor Sect gained the upper hand.
Kinoshita Toshiyuki
In 1868, after the Battle of Toba Fushimi, Kinoshita submitted to the new government. In the same year, together with the lord of the Azuma Domain of the same clan, Kinoshita Toshigami, proposed to the new government the idea of building a Toyotomi Shrine in honor of Toyotomi Hideyoshi.
In 1869, after the edition was returned, Kinoshita Shun wished to become the governor of the Sunrise Domain. Later, before abolishing the feudal county, it carried out the reform of the clan administration within the clan, but due to the heavy tax levied on the people, it eventually caused the people to complain.

In 1871, after the abolition of the domain and the establishment of the prefecture, the Sunrise Domain was renamed Sunrise Prefecture, and finally merged into Oita Prefecture.
In 1880, Kinoshita Toshiyuki died at the age of 44, and was succeeded by his third son, Kinoshita Toshigetsu.
In 1884, the Chinese Order was promulgated, and Kinoshita Toshige was awarded the title of viscount and included in the Chinese. Another anecdote is that during the Taisho period, Kinoshita Toshitsu had to sell the house of Nichinomaru of Sunrise Castle and the heirloom left by his ancestors because he owed a lot of debt to others.
