No. 50 Hankou Road, founded in 1908.
The red bungalow in the picture is No. 50 Hankou Road
It was originally the Hubu Bank of the Qing Dynasty, the shanghai branch of the Great Qing Bank. In 1911, the Great Qing Bank Commercial Stock Federation planned a reorganization here, and the following year, the Bank of China was born in this building.
In 1936, the building changed owners. In the following decades, the site has changed hands many times, and the Huangpu District Institute of Education, the Disabled Persons' Federation and other units have been located here. Because of this, the historical history of this building is missing, and it is certain that at that time, the east side of the building was the location of the office and branch of the Bank of China, and the west side was the warehouse. In 2010, through land replacement and other measures, No. 50 Hankou Road was finally returned to the Bank of China. Now, the BOC Head Office Museum is under construction here and will be officially opened to the public next year.
Five or six hundred meters further, you will come to the famous Bund International Building Complex.
Of the 23 buildings of different styles, only one was designed by Chinese architects with Chinese style and elements, and that is 23 Bund, the Bank of China Tower.
The BOC Tower and the adjacent Peace Hotel North Tower together form the top of the Bund skyline. Walking along Dianchi Road, it is not difficult to find that the whole building is very grand and extends all the way forward.
In fact, it is twice the size of the HSBC Tower (now the Shanghai Pudong Development Bank Building), and the reason for this design is to convey a kind of self-confidence in China's national financial industry.
In the 1930s, bank of China's foreign exchange business accounted for more than half of the country's total, and gradually began to compete with foreign financial institutions stationed in China.
Across the river from No. 23 Bund is the Bank of China Tower in Lujiazui, which is rumored to be the "No. 1 Plot" of Lujiazui's development, the first building approved for construction. The design of this building, a perfect blend of planes, surfaces and slopes, has a strong sense of architectural beauty.
These three buildings tell the century-old history of BOC, and are also an important chapter in China's financial history, and the embodiment of the cultural spirit of financial service to the country.
