Headquartered in a former military fortress beneath the rock of Gibraltar, XAPO Studio Lagranja Design conveys the ideas of freedom, individuality and futurism through digital craftsmanship while respecting history. This in itself is a metaphor for the rapid change in the banking world. The new office occupies two cabins of the former military facility, with a total area of 800 square meters, built of local limestone, with a roof supported by original wooden beams. The wooden beams and stone walls have been cleaned, restored, and left in their natural state, giving the space an atmosphere of an ancient armored chamber.

The historic building has been given a new lease of life, thanks in part to the linear ground-level wall washing lighting set up by reMM studio designer Michela Mezzavilla, which extends from floor to ceiling, giving the old stone walls a dramatic glow.

Clients enter the XAPO headquarters through a spectacular gallery that doubles as a reception area and passageway. A mirror image of the water surface is located on either side of the suspended walkway, which offsets the lack of ceiling height and makes the space appear more spacious.

The low wall washers that surround the entire perimeter of the gallery and the light that precisely illuminates the walkways enhance the sense of lightness and contribute to the dematerialization of the building, creating an optical illusion by reflecting and replicating the building.

Much of the furniture is custom-made to the needs of the furniture, with modular shapes and a softly textured look, with the aim of creating a sense of community and an informal narrative that keeps all spaces in harmony.

The large bench in the meeting room is made of natural oak wood with rounded bioplastic legs. Its large "croissant" shape allows for different on-site or remote small meetings at the same time.

With minimalism and modern design as its starting point, Lagranja defines a contemporary office through digitally manufactured furniture and décor; This in itself is a metaphor for the rapid changes in the world of banking and money.

Large meeting room, complete with a kitchenette and a living room, opens onto a walled courtyard that was originally a powder magazine at the base of a defensive tower. Courtyards with green walls and barbecue areas are designed to combine leisure and work, or both.

The avant-garde lighting, designed by Michela Mezzavilla, perfectly complements Lagranja's interior design, respecting the rule that the walls of the historic building must not be destroyed. Linear lighting is set on a metal base, providing harmonious ambient light throughout the space while elegantly accentuating the stone vaults and arches of this ancient military fortress.
