Yangmeikeng is located in Nanao Office, Dapeng New District, Shenzhen, facing Daya Bay in front of Yangmei Village and Dapeng Peninsula National Geopark, which is the easternmost point of Shenzhen. Eastern Seawall Reconstruction Project (Phase III)· The Yangmeikeng section is located between the ecological reserve and the first-class marine reserve, and the inland sea is a coral reef conservation area, with a continuous and unique natural coastline of reefs, and it is also an ecologically sensitive area.
With a coastline of 133.22 kilometers and many beautiful natural resources, Shenzhen Dapeng New Area is one of the important production and living bases for local residents along the coastline, and eco-leisure tourism is the pillar industry of the local area. Due to the problems of unsystematic improvement of seawalls, poor roads along the coastline, and lack of management facilities, the inefficient land use and insufficient openness of the coastline in the Yangmeikeng shoreline area, coupled with the low defense function of the regional seawall and the frequent occurrence of tidal disasters, it has been difficult to effectively improve the problems of "dirty, messy and poor".
“渡劫”不止海岸与景观|" Survival" beyond the coastline and landscapes
On September 16, 2018, Typhoon Mangkhut swept by, causing devastating damage to the coastline of the Dapeng area, including the protective wall and driveway of Luzui Avenue, which seriously threatened the lives and property safety of local residents and tourists. Restoring the seawall structure as soon as possible, improving the surrounding landscape and coastline construction, and further improving the ability to resist future disasters have become urgent problems to be solved in the Yangmeikeng area.
In order to prevent frequent extreme weather and natural disasters and promote sustainable economic development, the Eastern Seawall Reconstruction Project (Phase III) came into being. The project spans three major offices in Kwai Chung, Dapeng and Nanao in Dapeng New Area, involving about 15.657 kilometers of coastline, with a new seawall length of about 13.8 kilometers and a new plank road length of about 1.9 kilometers. The construction content includes the embankment, landscape and supporting projects of the six sections of the seawall in the Shayu Bay section, the eastern section of Guanhu Lake, the eastern section of Moon Bay, the Yangmeikeng section, the Dongshanhai section and the eastern section of Pengcheng, and creates an ecological seawall protection system with a moisture-proof standard of once in 200 years and an embankment level of 1.
“重生”不止修补与重建|" Rebirth" beyond repairs and reconstructions
Based on the design principle of "Triple Seawall Ecological Protection", the project combines the local historical context, natural ecology and economic development to build a multi-level sustainable and resilient seawall protection system to rebuild the coastline of Dapeng Peninsula.
The first "outer embankment" - the hydrophilic system of the outer defense line: it is an important hydrophilic space node such as a beach garden, a hydrophilic platform square, and a wave pool.
The second "middle embankment" - the embankment system: it is the main coastal trail space, which is the core of the embankment protection and the main coastal tour path, longitudinally connecting the entire coastal area;
The third "inner embankment" – the public space system of the embankment backline: combined with the ecological landscape of the rain garden, it also has the function of facilitating drainage;
On the basis of traditional engineering technology, the project integrates ecological strategies such as water security, low-impact development, sponge city, stormwater management, climate change, and biodiversity, and systematically solves the problems of coastline moisture safety and ecological environment. The multi-functional coastal linear public space completely opens up the interface of coastal space, connects the urban area with the coastline, and stimulates and releases the ecological, economic and cultural growth potential of different coastal areas.
After the completion of the project, it will greatly enhance the moisture-proof capacity of Dapeng New Area, effectively protect the safety of people's lives and property and normal production and life, reduce the damage to the ecological environment caused by extreme weather changes such as typhoons and floods, create a flexible framework for social and economic growth in Dapeng New Area, and promote healthy, sustainable and prosperous urban development.
“回归”不止岸线与礁石|" Return" beyond coastlines and reefs
The Yangmeikeng section is divided into three parts: the demonstration section, the village section and the Luzui Avenue section.
Demonstration Section & Village Section:
In the demonstration section and the village section of Yangmeikeng, the embankment takes advantage of the scattered terrain layout to present richer spatial functions. An inner embankment system consisting of multiple "stormwater gardens" forms an open community activity space, and tall and lush trees form a shade to provide leisure space for visitors. The exterior of the middle embankment is dominated by sand-colored concrete retaining walls, and some parts present a handrail-type structure with high and low staggered heights. The inner side is made of double-layer granite whole stone, which not only achieves the required protection height, but also divides the protective space behind the embankment and the main space, blocking the invasion of waves and forming a visual perception of moving to a different scene. The outer embankment is flexibly connected to the ocean with a sandy beach, providing people with a rich activity venue and intimate contact with the ocean.
Luzui Avenue Section:
The seawall before the reconstruction of Luzui Avenue is an upright mortar stone retaining wall, and the embankment is a very distinctive landscape reef beach, but there are still many problems: part of the old seawall retaining wall is in disrepair, partially collapsed, and the foot of the wall is seriously damaged; The road lacks pedestrian and vehicle diversion facilities and safety fences, which has great potential safety hazards; The landscape along the road is relatively simple, lacking signs and service facilities, and the night lighting is missing.
On the basis of the existing original ecological reef beach, the team repaired and strengthened the seawall, and improved the hydrophilic experience on the original basis, making the waterfront more flexible and creating a multi-level activity space. Luzui Avenue places more emphasis on the slow traffic system and linear recreation, and the motorized lanes are reduced here. Under the condition of ensuring the passage of vehicles, the road surface is shared, and the pedestrian space is guaranteed.
On the basis of the original seawall, Luzui Avenue has a total of 8 seawall entrances, each of which is equipped with barrier-free facilities to provide convenience, and realize the flexible switching between the seaside reef beach, the slow walking trail and the seawall road. In order to further conserve the surrounding ecological environment, saline-alkali tolerant trees such as casuarina and blood tung are planted on one side of the seawall to prevent wind and fix sand to form green protection; On one side of the mountain, the existing trees are retained, and the land cover of the township such as kidney fern, myrtle, and rhododendron is increased, so as to conserve water sources and reduce soil erosion. Antler Bay, which was once washed away, has been repaired and restored to retain the original memory points, and it is safer and more comfortable for cooling, resting, and checking in.
“更新”不止鹿嘴与杨梅|" Renovation" beyond Luzui and Yangmei
With the advancement of the eastern seawall reconstruction project (phase III), the construction of the Yangmei pit section has begun to take shape, which has had a profound impact on the local tourism industry. With the development of tourism, the surrounding shops, restaurants, and B&Bs have been renewed, and the village has been renewed. The improvement of the tourism industry not only enriches the quality of life of local residents, but also provides a livable and suitable destination for more tourists. Over the past three years, the land that has undergone a seawall reconstruction has not only been revitalized, but also an ideal place to blend natural beauty and human history.
In the future, with the continuous improvement of the project and the gradual supporting of the surrounding facilities, it is believed that this beautiful seaside area will attract more tourists and inject new vitality into the sustainable development of the local economy. The successful implementation of the Eastern Seawall Reconstruction Project (Phase III) has not only brought new vitality to Yangmeikeng, but also given new hope and vitality to the land.
