Wu Hufan was an advisor to the Antiquities Preservation Committee of the Ministry of the Interior and a director of the Shanghai Museum. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, he served as a member of the Preparatory Committee of the Shanghai Academy of Chinese Painting, a painter, an associate professor of the Academy of Fine Arts of Shanghai University, a librarian of the Shanghai Museum of Culture and History, and a member of the Shanghai Municipal Cultural Relics Preservation Committee.
