The 17th Li Siguang Geological Science Award Ceremony was held in Beijing

On October 26th, the 17th Li Siguang Geological Science Award Ceremony and the Symposium on the Publication and Distribution of Li Siguang's Scientific Treatises were held in Beijing. Zhong Tiantian, member of the Party Group of the Ministry of Natural Resources, director of the China Geological Survey, and deputy director of the Li Siguang Geological Science Award Committee, attended the meeting and delivered a speech. The meeting was presided over by Ma Yongsheng, general manager of China Petroleum and Chemical Corporation, deputy director of Li Siguang Geological Science Award Committee, and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

At the meeting, Hou Qijun, general manager of China National Petroleum Corporation and deputy director of the Li Siguang Geological Science Award Committee, read out the "Decision on Awarding the 17th Li Siguang Geological Science Award". According to the decision, a total of 15 winners were selected for the Li Siguang Geological Science Award. Among them, there are 8 field awards, 5 scientific research awards, and 2 teacher awards. Most of the winners have been engaged in exploration and research in the field for a long time, and have made due contributions to ensuring the safety of national energy resources and promoting the development of geological sciences.

On behalf of the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Li Siguang Geological Science Award Committee, Zhong Natural expressed warm congratulations to the winners, expressed cordial greetings to the vast number of geological workers who have always struggled in the field and the frontline of scientific research, and expressed heartfelt thanks to people from all walks of life who have long cared for and supported the progress of geological science and technology and the development of geological undertakings. He pointed out that Li Siguang is a pioneer of modern Chinese geology and one of the main founders of the geological cause of new China, an outstanding scientist, an outstanding educator, and a great patriot, an outstanding representative of Chinese intellectuals, and a banner of China's scientific and technological circles. The spirit of Li Siguang is the inheritance and development of the Chinese nation's national spirit of perseverance and unremitting self-improvement, the embodiment and practice of the Chinese communists to serve the people wholeheartedly, the condensation and sublimation of the excellent qualities of the older generation of scientists in pursuing truth and rigorous study, and the precious spiritual wealth left to us by Mr. Li Siguang.

Zhong Naturally stressed: The vast number of geological workers should vigorously inherit and carry forward the spirit of Li Siguang. First, we must vigorously carry forward Mr. Li Siguang's patriotic feelings of bearing the motherland in mind and serving the people. Adhere to the accurate docking of major national needs, resolutely implement the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping's important instructions and the major decisions and deployments of the Party Central Committee and the State Council. The second is to vigorously carry forward Mr. Li Siguang's innovative spirit of bravely climbing the peak and daring to be the first. Adhere to the "four aspects", and unswervingly use scientific and technological innovation to lead, support and transform the geological work in the new era. Third, it is necessary to vigorously carry forward Mr. Li Siguang's exemplary style of teaching people tirelessly and rewarding and learning after graduation. Adhere to the strategic position of talents leading development, and strive to build a team of geological science and technology talents with important influence and discourse power at home and abroad. Fourth, it is necessary to vigorously carry forward Mr. Li Siguang's pragmatic style of pursuing truth and rigorously administering studies. Persist in seeking truth from facts, do "true" research, engage in "real" scientific research, produce "real" results, and seek "real" results. Fifth, it is necessary to vigorously carry forward Mr. Li Siguang's spirit of dedication to fame and fortune and to bow down to the fullest. We must be able to swoop down, endure loneliness, and practice the geological culture of the new era with practical actions.

So far, the Li Siguang Geological Science Award has been selected 17 times, with a total of 268 winners of various awards, and 62 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering have won the Li Siguang Geological Science Award. Among them, 36 are academicians of the two academies who were elected after winning the Li Siguang Geological Science Award. The Li Siguang Geological Science Award is the highest geological award for geological workers in China, and is an important platform for promoting geological science and technology innovation and cultivating outstanding geological talents.

At the meeting, the "Collection of Li Siguang's Scientific Treatises" was released. Li Tingdong, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, briefed the participants on the significance of the publication of the collection of treatises. "Li Siguang's Scientific Treatises" is a scientific masterpiece published by the Institute of Geomechanics, Li Siguang Memorial Hall and Geological Publishing House under the guidance of the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Geological Survey of China. Academician Ding Zhongli, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, wrote a preface to the collection of treatises. The collection of treatises comprehensively and in detail reflects Li Siguang's half-century-long scientific research process and fruitful achievements, and is a faithful record and scientific summary of his lifelong research on earth sciences and dedication to geological undertakings. The book contains Li Siguang's monographs, papers, speeches, talks, letters, manuscripts, etc. from 1920 to 1971, with a total length of about 5 million words, and is divided into 11 volumes according to professional fields. Volumes 1 to 6 contain his research achievements in five fields: geomechanics, Chinese geology, fossil science, glacial geology, and astronomy geology paleontology, and are based on theory. The seventh and eighth volumes of geomechanics practice, and the ninth volume of speech series are respectively applied practice and work practice, which are important supplements to the guiding practice of his academic ideology. The collection of manuscripts in the tenth volume and the eleventh volume of the manuscript is the display of his thoughts, words and deeds, and also an important basis for future generations to understand and discuss his scientific ideas.

The conference presented the "Collection of Li Siguang's Scientific Treatises" to the National Library of China, the National Museum of China, the Geological Library of China, the Documentation and Information Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Library Service Center of China University of Geosciences, and the School of Earth and Space Sciences of Peking University.
