Ugandan weightlifters who disappeared at a pre-Olympic training camp in Japan on Friday have been found.

The Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) announced on Friday that Julius Sekitoleko had left the training camp in Osaka and his whereabouts were unknown.

UOC Secretary General Beatrice Ayikoru confirmed he was found in a brief video statement, without revealing more details.

She said: "He has been located and is in the office under the spring with the (unspecified) government department. We are working with the Embassy in Tokyo to ensure he flies safely to Uganda. ”

Reports from Japanese media said Sekitoleko was found about 40 kilometers south of Nagoya City, Japan, where he bought a train ticket.

The agency added, "He has a cell phone, but his passport is in the custody of a team from the Uganda team, which arrived in Japan on June 19." ”

In a preliminary statement on Friday, the UOC explained that Sekitoleko arrived in Japan before he qualified for the Olympics.

On July 5, 2021, the International Weightlifting Federation informed him that he had not completed his Quota for the Olympics and the UOC arranged for him and his coach to return to Uganda on July 20.
