In fact, there are many species of rhinoceros turtles in China, in addition to the well-known one-horned fairy (fork rhinoceros golden turtle), Ji Du (wood rhinoceros golden turtle) and five-horned big pocket (You rhinoceros golden turtle), There are also 13 species of rhinoceros golden turtles in China, which can be described as rich in species.
Today I would like to share with you the species of the genus Oryctes.
About the genus Oryctes
Overview of the genus Rhinoceros:
The genus is the fourth largest "family" under the Subfamily Dynastidae, with a total of 45 species, including more than 70 subspecies.
However, there are not many rhinoceros golden turtles distributed in China, only 3 species: ge moth rhinoceros golden turtle, coconut borer rhinoceros golden turtle and horned borer rhinoceros golden turtle subspecies, the overall distribution range is narrow, in addition to the coconut borer rhinoceros golden turtle production area is relatively large, the remaining two species are only a few provinces distributed.
Trivia: The three genera with the largest number of species in the entire rhinoceros subfamily are: Cyclocephala (351 species), Hemiphileurus and Heteronychus are tied for second (60 species), and Stenocrates (53 species).
Hazards of the Rhinoceros Turtle:
As the name suggests, the rhinoceros turtle is a moth that is a hazard to a variety of host plants (coconut, oak, palm, mangosteen, mulberry, etc.).
In the case of the coconut borer rhinoceros turtle, they often moth from the top of the tree to the center of the tree downward, first eating the heart leaf and then eating the stem to eat the young leaf tissue, and then often form a tunnel, which eventually causes the crown to be mutilated and withered, seriously causing the death of the entire plant; and the larvae are saprophytic, and sometimes moth the stem of the host plant from bottom to top.
Breeding of borer rhinoceros turtles:
Adult worms can mate about a week after the sting, breeding is relatively simple, and the common Ji Dou, unicorn fairy is no different, using 4-8L of feeding containers, plus waste soil can be used as a delivery room to produce; usually half of the wood chips are slightly pressed, the surface layer is covered with bark, etc. to prevent turning over; the temperature is recommended to be controlled at 22-28 degrees; the egg stage is about 2 to 3 weeks.

Overview: also known as The Genu moth rhinoceros golden turtle, distributed in Hainan, habitat altitude of about 400 ~ 1200m tropical mountainous areas, feeding habits are more complex, in addition to eating the sap of trees and fruits, there are also sapivism, predatory habits, adult insects have phototropism; belong to the large moths rhinoceros golden turtle, male insect body length of about 54 ~ 65mm.
: In addition to China, sri Lanka, Malaysia, Indonesia (Sumatra, Java, Lombok, Borneo), the Philippines (Luzon), and Australia (Papua New Guinea) and other countries are distributed.
Body color: hairless on the back of the body, reddish brown to black brown body color, dark maroon ventral villi.
Features: The male has a small head, a thick horned process on the head that is slightly flattened and curved backwards, the anterior thorax dorsal plate is narrow and wide, the anterior part has a nearly circular pit with folds on the pit surface; the small shield is scattered with dots near the triangle; the elytra have 4 carved lines, and the columns are wide. The female is slightly smaller , with no horns on the head and dorsal plate of the forebreast , and a depression in the end of the dorsal plate of the forebreast.

Overview: Distributed in China's Yunnan, Guangxi, Guangdong, Xisha Islands, Nansha Islands and the southern edge of Taiwan hot land area, the main habitat host is palm crops and tropical fruits, the body size is relatively large (but large individuals in the wild are rare), male insects body length of about 33 ~ 50mm.
: The coconut borer rhinoceros turtle is widely distributed around the world, Southeast Asia (Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Indonesia, Vietnam, etc.), Oceania (Australia, Fiji, etc.), and even Mexico in the Americas and Madagascar in Africa (invasive species).
Body color: tan to pitch black, the ventral surface is slightly reddish covered with brown short villi.
Features: The male has a wide base of the head horn and a thick incision on the posterior part of the base; smooth dorsal plate of the anterior thorax, and a strong arc in the posterior half of the lateral margin, which is almost equal to the width; the lateral edge of the small shield is smooth and the rest is obviously wrinkled; the elytra are densely marked with dots with 3 pairs of distinct notch lines; the outer edge of the tibia of the forefoot has 4 dendritic processes, and the midfoot tibia is shorter than the posterior tibial segment.
Trivia: The species name "rhinoceros" means rhinoceros.

Overview: Only distributed in The edge of the basin or oasis in the river basin of Xinjiang and Ningxia provinces in China, the adult insects have phototropism, which is not a small harm to fruit production, and the male insects are about 27 to 34mm long.
Body color: reddish brown ~ tan, the leg joints are red, and the overall gloss is strong.
Features: The male has a thick posterior curvature (starting near the base 1/3) of the head; the dorsal plate of the anterior thorax has sparse small incisions, and there are two pairs of short horned protrusions on both sides; the coleopterynge is arched and scattered with subtle notchs, and the longitudinal stripes are almost indistinguishable; there are 3 distinct spikes on the outer edge of the tibia segment of the forefoot, and the tarsal segment of the posterior foot is enlarged.
The dorsal plate of the female thorax is only transversely concave in the middle and anterior part, and is covered with fine folds.

: Horned borer rhinoceros turtle is the first "family" of the genus Rhinoceros, containing a total of 20 subspecies, the original name subspecies is widely distributed, the main production areas are located in the Palearctic and Ethiopian boundaries (global zoogeographic region).
