His cursive writing differed from his contemporaries, not by pulling away the spacing, but by narrowing the space between the lines, allowing the strokes to intersperse freely between the words, jumping and undulating, waving one by one, and exuberant. His calligraphy has an important place in the history of calligraphy and has had a profound influence on Japanese calligraphy.
Because Xu You's works have not been passed down much, the "Seven Absolute Two Poems Axis" collected by the Chenghuaitang Art Museum in Japan is his representative work.
