Chongqing, 9 Oct (China News Service) -- "Falling Peanuts and Xu Dishan" -- An exhibition on the theme of patriotism and a symposium to commemorate the 80 th anniversary of the death of Mr. Xu Dishan were held at the Chongqing China Democratic Party History Museum on 9 October. The purpose of the activity is to inherit the excellent culture of the two sides of the strait, carry forward the glorious tradition of Taiwan compatriots loving the country and the hometown, and promote the spiritual unity of compatriots on both sides of the strait.
Xu Dishan, pen name Luo Peanut, is a famous modern Chinese writer, patriotic scholar, one of the pioneers of the "May Fourth" new cultural movement, and authored works such as "Spider with Webs", "Dangerous Nest Falling Jane", "Falling Peanut" and so on. Xu Dishan, whose ancestral home is Jieyang, Guangdong, was born in Taiwan in 1893 to a family of patriots. After Taiwan was occupied by the Japanese army, Xu Dishan's family moved back to the mainland. After the "July 7" incident, Xu Dishan published articles and speeches to publicize the anti-Japanese resistance, oppose surrender, run for the cause of resisting Japan and saving the country, and carry out various organizational and educational work. In 1941, Xu Dishan died of overwork.
Zhang Bailiang, vice president of the All-China Federation of Taiwan Compatriots, said: Mr. Xu Dishan has strong patriotic feelings and has actively thrown himself into the new cultural movement and the anti-imperialist and anti-feudal struggle. To commemorate Mr. Xu Dishan, we must not only inherit his ideological, cultural, and artistic wealth, but more importantly, study, inherit, and carry forward his patriotic spirit of loving the country and the hometown, and contribute our own strength to promoting the integration and development of the two sides of the strait and realizing the complete reunification of the motherland. We should vigorously carry forward the glorious tradition of Patriotism and Hometown Love of Taiwan compatriots such as Xu Dishan, continue to promote cross-strait exchanges, and realize the spiritual unity of compatriots on both sides of the strait.
Yang Daqing, deputy director of the United Front Work Department of the Chongqing Municipal CPC Committee, said that Mr. Xu Dishan's character of loving the motherland, loving the people and pursuing the truth has always influenced future generations. In commemorating Mr. Xu Dishan, it is precisely to inherit the excellent culture of the two sides of the strait with practical actions and to strive to promote the spiritual unity of compatriots on both sides of the strait and enhance the peaceful reunification and identity of the motherland. The two sides of the Taiwan Strait share the same text, the same roots, and the same lineage, and are linked by blood and flesh and blood. We must always uphold the concept of "one family on both sides of the strait," work together in harmony and struggle together, and contribute wisdom and strength to promoting the peaceful reunification of the motherland and realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
Wang Yifu, chair professor of the Institute of Taiwan Studies of Xiamen University and president of the National Association for Taiwan Studies, said in his written speech that this meeting is another new starting point for Xu Dishan's research, and the speeches and papers at the conference include Xu Dishan's achievements in creating, translating, editing, researching, and community activities in the field of literature. The participating papers also introduced and discussed Xu Dishan's deeds as a Taiwan compatriot who loved the country and the hometown, and truthfully shaped the encyclopedic generation of masters - Xu Dishan.
Recalling Mr. Xu Dishan's patriotic ideological course and achievements in academic writings, Wei Zhongke, a representative of his descendants, said that to practice his concept of "looking upward and moving forward" and passing on his simple spirit of "falling peanuts," we should not only inherit Xu Dishan's ideological and artistic heritage, further carry forward the excellent traditional culture of the Chinese nation, but also study, inherit, and carry forward Xu Dishan's patriotic spirit, and make our own efforts to promote cross-strait cultural exchanges and integration and realize the complete reunification of the motherland.
The event was guided by the All-China Federation of Taiwan Compatriots and the United Front Work Department of the Chongqing Municipal CPC Committee, and sponsored by the Chongqing Overseas Friendship Association, the Chongqing Municipal Federation of Taiwan, and the Fujian Provincial Federation of Taiwan. More than 30 experts and scholars from Peking University, Southwest University, Chongqing Hongyan Revolutionary History Museum and other universities and research institutes were invited to attend the meeting, and more than 20 people from Fujian Provincial Taiwan Federation, Xiamen Taiwan Society, Fujian Normal University and other relevant units, experts and scholars attended the meeting online.
