Let's meet those legendary figures through the representatives of the directors at that time. The reporter learned from the Shanghai Art Film Alliance today that the "Retrospective Exhibition of Director Sun Yu's Works" will be held on September 5 (Saturday), September 12 (Saturday) and September 13 (Sunday).

Sun Yu is one of the representative figures in the second generation of Chinese film directors. In 1928, he directed his first film "Fishing Fork Monster"; since the 1930s, he has directed a number of works with far-reaching influence, including "Sports Queen", "Gadgets", "Big Road" and so on. In 1960, he directed the opera film "Qin Niangmei", which was the last film directed by Sun Yu. Sun Yu's films focus on the integrity of the storyline and pursue a poetic style, so they are also known as "screen poets" and "film poets".
The seven films screened in the retrospective exhibition of Director Sun Yu's works include: "Wild Rose", "Volcanic Love Blood", "Tianming", "Gadget", "Sports Queen", "Dalu" and "The Legend of Luban".

"Wild Rose": Is a silent feature film with the theme of patriotism filmed by Sun Yu, which revolves around the story of Xiao Feng (Wang Renmei), a girl from a water village, and Jiang Bo (Jin Yan), a rich man, who met and knew each other and finally threw herself into the revolution. This was Wang Renmei's first starring role, and the film received numerous praise after its release in 1931.

Film "Sports Queen"
"Sports Queen": Filmed in 1934 after the September 18 Incident, the film became a charge to arouse the anti-Japanese anger of the people of the whole country and strengthen the strength of the nation. Sun Yu placed his ideal of "sports to save the country" in the film. The film's lead actor Li Lili is good at swimming, diving, driving, riding horses, and has also won the sprint championship, playing a role that is handy. She played the lin ying's sentence "I know why China is not strong, the first reason is that the body is not strong!" "The Tao broke the weakness of China's humiliation, and the film not only inspired the self-confidence of the nation, but also continued the essence of sports to this day."

The Legend of Luban
"The Legend of Lu Ban": Filmed by Shanghai Film Studio in 1958, the film chose to build bridges, build temples, and corner towers in three stories, focusing on the Spring and Autumn And Warring States Era craftsman Lu Ban was the embodiment of the hard work and wisdom of working people, proving that extraordinary miracles are created from ordinary labor. The film is a representative work in Sun Yu's late creation.
Each of the seven films screened in this retrospective is only one, all of which are digitally copied by the China Film Archive. Five of the silent films "Wild Rose", "Volcanic Blood", "Dawn", "Gadget" and "Sports Queen" will have live piano accompaniment performances, which is the international practice of silent film screening, and will also enable the audience to better immerse themselves in the film accompanied by music.
