Located at 859 Zhongshan South 2nd Road, Wanping Theatre, adjacent to Xuhui Riverside, is a municipal theater affiliated with the Shanghai Xiqu Arts Center.
In 2017, the Wanping Theater began to implement renovation and expansion, and after four years of intense construction, it was finally completed to meet the audience.
The new Wanping Theater has a construction area of 29,281 square meters, including a 996-seat grand theater, a 262-seat small theater, a 209-seat theater and a multi-purpose auditorium with 209 seats, a Dolby Panorama multi-channel cinema hall, a professional rehearsal hall and other advanced performance service facilities.
After four years of intense construction, the renovation and expansion began in 2017 and met with the audience on June 23, 2021.
The opening drama brought together the wonderful programs of the six theater groups of the Shanghai Opera Art Center, Beijing, Kunming, Shanghai, and Yuehuai, and also invited local opera programs with great characteristics such as Huangmei opera, Pear Garden opera, and Yang opera.
This year coincides with the 10th anniversary of the establishment of Shanghai Xiqu Art Center, and this xiqu party is also a birthday gift for shanghai xiqu art center on its 10th birthday.
