Famous British singer Elton John recently prepared to sell his first Ferrari car, the Ferrari Daytona. It's no surprise that he bought himself a Ferrari Daytona in the 1970s, and in the decades since he became a rock star in the global spotlight, Elton John has owned a sizable number of famous cars, including supercars, sports cars and luxury cars.
However, any Ferrari hardcore will first tell you that Ferrari Daytona is not really called Daytona, it is called Ferrari 365 GTB/4. The name Daytona was given by the World Automotive Media shortly after its launch in 1968. The nickname comes from Ferrari's amazing top three finishes at its 330 P3/4, 330 P4 and 412 P in the 1967 Daytona 24 Hours.
However, Enzo Ferrari never really liked the nickname, and to this day, Ferrari still rarely uses the name when referring to the car, preferring its official model name.
When the Lamborghini Miura first landed in 1966, it can be said that it caused a stir at Ferrari headquarters in Maranello. The Miura is a nice sleek mid-mounted V12 engine, and many point to it as the first true supercar. The fact that it was faster than any legal Ferrari sports car being produced at the time, and made by Ferrucchio Lamborghini, who had become Enzo Ferrari's nemesis, made it even more shocking.
Ferrari's engineers set out to build a new car to replace the Ferrari 275 GTB, and of course to beat the shiny new Lamborghini. Enzo is known for opposing the use of a mid-engine configuration on his V12 car, which he believes will face too many challenges for untrained people. Lamborghini has no such concerns, and as a result, the Miura has become a global sensation.
The car Ferrari developed for this daunting task was the 365 GTB/4, or Daytona, a sport GT car with a front-mounted 4.4-liter Colombo V12 engine that produces 347 horsepower at 7500 rpm and is capable of reaching 280 km/h, 4.8 km/h faster than the Miura.
Elton John became a hit in 1973 with his album Don't Shoot Me I'm Only the Piano Player, in which the lead single "Crocodile Rock" became Elton John's first number one single on the U.S. Billboard 100, leading the way for three weeks; the album topped the U.S., U.K., Australia, Canada, Italy, and Norwegian album charts, selling more than 18 million copies worldwide.
That same year, he released Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, which sold more than 31 million copies worldwide, cementing his leading position in glam rock and making it topped the charts around the world.
It was during this time that Elton owned the right-hand-driven 1972 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona. The car is one of only 158 right-hand drive cars, and it's finished with the best color combinations for Daytona.
The car recently acquired Ferrari's classic "Red Book" status, meaning it has been thoroughly inspected by Ferrari experts and is considered fully original, including the matching engine and gearbox.
The car is currently ready for auction, the guide price is $700,000 (about 4.476 million yuan), if you are a super fan of Elton John, now there is a chance, this is not the same star model, but the real star has driven ferrari for decades.
