Astrid Lindgren died in 2002 at the age of 94. In order to commemorate Lindgren and her spirit, and to promote the world's attention to children's and juvenile literature, the Swedish government has established an international award under the name of Lindgren, the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Prize (hereinafter referred to as the Lindgren Memorial Prize).
