The day Sun Yat-sen was diagnosed with liver cancer was January 26, 1925, 47 days before his death.
On the same day, the doctors of Peking Union Medical College Hospital, after operating on him, used an apparatus to remove and wash the pus of his liver, and they determined that the malignant tumor in Sun Yat-sen's liver had reached the end stage. So they re-sutured his abdomen.
The whole operation was only 25 minutes, which surprised his wife Song Qingling, but she did not think badly. So, when they told her that "it's the end of liver cancer and there's nothing they can do about it," she stared in surprise and said in English, "What?" ”
After this, Sun Yat-sen's illness became more and more serious, and Soong Ching Ling was naturally anxious.

Sun Yat-sen and Soong Ching-ling
On January 30, Sun Yat-sen, who had a frequent high fever, had a normal body temperature and looked better than ever. Looking at his wife, who was haggard and worried about taking care of him, he was heartbroken. To comfort his wife, he took her hand and said:
"I did get sick, and the doctors didn't do anything about my illness, but I was able to support my body, and in the past it wasn't entirely by treatment, but by my own courage." I believe that my courage will eventually overcome this disease, and there will certainly be no danger. ”
After Song Qingling heard her husband's words, her heart was slightly better, she had always believed in the power of ideas, and his husband, this great revolutionary, had always been a person with very strong ideas. In the past, he had been sick, but every time he was sick. So, this time, she still believes that he can really "support his body" as he says.
After this, Song Qingling rearranged her mood, and she was determined to give her husband the best care to help him get through this difficult time.
After all, Sun Yat-sen was not an ordinary person, even in his illness, he did not give up the revolution for a moment, he has been paying close attention to the domestic situation at that time. He knew that Duan Qirui and others did a lot of tricks and feet when he was ill, and on the 29th, he also rejected two of Sun Yat-sen's propositions on the pretext that "the time is late, and he can only work around it."
At the same time, the warlords and bureaucrats of the north and the south made political transactions behind the scenes, which made Sun Yat-sen feel that the goal of peaceful reunification had become more and more difficult to achieve.
Sun Yat-sen did not give up treatment, he later received radium radiation therapy, which lasted for a full 48 hours, but unfortunately, this treatment did not have any effect. In fact, at this time, Sun Yat-sen should "give up treatment" in the eyes of Western medicine, after all, his liver was already hard as wood.

After this ineffective treatment, Sun Yat-sen decided to change to Traditional Chinese medicine after consulting with Soong Ching Ling. The Chinese medicine practitioner they invited at that time was called Shi Jinmo, who had successfully cured many people's liver disease. Since they could be treated with Traditional Chinese medicine, they moved into the residence of No. 11 Tieshi Hutong. Before leaving the hospital, Song Qingling said happily: "Staying at home is more beneficial to recuperation!" ”
The therapeutic effects of TCM remain ineffective, a result that frustrated both Sun Yat-sen and Soong Ching-ling. As a lifelong master of medicine, Sun Yat-sen also understood that his illness had deteriorated. But he has always suppressed the pain with superhuman perseverance, always maintaining a "clear sense of reason and firm will" in the midst of the disease, and he knows that only in this way can his wife feel better.
Only at this crucial moment did Sun Yat-sen realize how reluctant he was to his 26-year-old wife. In the months of illness, his wife's inseparable care has also aggravated his pity for her.
Knowing that his time was short, in addition to state affairs, Sun Yat-sen thought most about his little wife. Thinking that his life had entered the countdown, he felt that he owed her. At first, in order to be with him, she even betrayed the entire family, but now, he wants to abandon her in this way.

These days, Sun Yat-sen always thinks about his past with his wife, and probably, in the midst of illness, people always think more than ever. He remembered the handwritten marriage book they had written when they were married, and he remembered that the second clause of the marriage book read: "Forever maintain the relationship between husband and wife in the future, and work together to promote mutual happiness." ”
"Happiness"! When he thought of this word, Sun Yat-sen's heart felt like it was stinging. He has always felt that his real happiness in his feelings is the 10 years with her.
Sun Yat-sen's original partner, Lu Muzhen, was a traditional feudal little-footed woman, and she had always been full of complaints about Sun Yat-sen's revolution, but this could not be blamed on her, because of the revolution, she had to pull a few children alone; it was because of the revolution that she was often widowed. In order to stop Sun Yat-sen's revolution, Lu Muzhen argued with him countless times, and finally, in order to avoid the days of fear, she simply settled in Macau.
In this relationship, Sun Yat-sen tasted pain, but he knew that the creator of this pain was himself. As a revolutionary, his dream is to have a revolutionary companion who runs around with himself. After meeting Song Qingling, the daughter of his good friend Song Jiashu, who had funded him in the early years, he believed with such certainty that she was the "she" in his ideal.
Song Qingling
Before marriage, Song Qingling directly worked as his secretary for her eldest sister Song Xialing, and after marriage, she was still his secretary, but she was the most important partner in his life. In the days after the marriage, she felt that she was extremely happy. So, in a letter to his friend Condry three years after his marriage, he wrote:
"My wife, an American college-educated woman, is the daughter of my earliest collaborator and friend. I started a new life. It was a real family life I had never enjoyed before. How blessed I am to be able to live with my close friends and assistants. ”

But now, because of this illness, his and her happiness has also come to an end, and Sun Yat-sen at this time inevitably thought of the word "tragedy". Thinking of this, Sun Yat-sen's brow wrinkled involuntarily. Song Qingling, who was beside him, saw the busyness and came over and asked with concern, "Darling (dear), what's wrong?" Hurting again? ”
Sun Yat-sen listened but did not speak, he only looked at her with his eyes, and when he first got married, he often looked at her like this. After a long time, he said, "You should rest, your eyes are black." Just then, Sun Yat-sen's nurse He Fen came in with canned fruit juice. Song Qingling looked at the canned fruit juice in He Fen's hand, and it was another wave of pain. Since he became seriously ill, he can't even eat fruit now, and the doctor only lets him drink canned fruit juice.
In fact, in these days, after her husband fell ill, she had not eaten a good meal for a long time, and she had not even slept well for a long time. Later, Liao Zhongkai's wife, He Xiangning, once told this about Soong Ching Ling, who served at Sun Yat-sen's bedside, saying:
"At the side of Mr. Mister's sickbed, march has not been a step away, the clothes are not unsuitable, the food is not tasteful, and the spirit of Mr. Sun is the spirit, so that we will never forget, mrs. Sun." The spirit and toil of madame are cherished by my generation. ”
During the months of taking care of Sun Yat-sen, Soong Ching Ling watched as he lost weight a little. But she paid no attention to the changes in her body, and her whole attention was on her husband's condition.
Song Qingling took a photo in front of her husband's sickbed
Soong Ching Ling always felt that her husband's illness would get better again, and she wanted Sun Yat-sen to live better than anyone, especially at this moment, she even felt that "he is all she has." ”
Just when Soong Ching Ling was expecting her husband's condition to improve, the Kuomintang made a major decision after Sun Yat-sen's condition continued to deteriorate: to ask Sun Yat-sen to make a will. As a leader of the revolution, his will was of great importance, so their consideration at the time was understandable.
On February 24, the 17th day before Sun Yat-sen's death, Wang Jingwei, Sun Ke, Song Ziwen, Kong Xiangxi, and others were entrusted by the Kuomintang comrades to make a will at his sickbed. After hearing their words, Soong Ching Ling's expression instantly froze, and after Sun Yat-sen looked at his wife, he seemed to look at them with displeasure: "If I am sick and can be cured, there are many people who say it, and if I am unfortunate to die, it is up to you to do it at will, and what can you say?"
Wang Jingwei did not intend to give up this opportunity for Sun Yat-sen to make a will, and he owed it to him:
"Sir's illness will soon be cured, but I am afraid that it will take too long to take care of official affairs, and the Party is in an important period, and there can be no momentary stagnation in action, and please give him early instructions so that we can abide by it, so that it is convenient for party affairs to proceed."
Sun Yat-sen still refused to make a will, and he continued with displeasure:
"If I leave a word for you, there are many dangers. Countless enemies are besieging you today, and after I die, they will attack you even more. There must even be a way to soften you. If you are not softened by the enemy and confronted by force, you will be harmed and the danger is very great, so it is better for me not to say anything, and it seems easier for you to cope with the environment. If I must say it, it will be more difficult for you to deal with the treacherous environment! So, what else can I say?"
After listening to Sun Yat-sen's words, Wang Jingwei and others still insisted on making a will. Sun Yat-sen's attitude was still unwilling, and the expression on Soong Ching Ling's face at this time was also a little unpleasant.
Wang Jingwei
At this time, Sun Yat-sen's refusal to make a will was somewhat because he always felt that he could still hold on, and he always felt that his illness might get better. He knew that during this time, his wife's spirit had not collapsed, and it was all because she still had hope in her heart. Therefore, even if Wang Jingwei talked about this, he still wanted to shirk it, so he said, "I have written a lot of books!"
Wang Jingwei once again owed it to the body:
"It is true that He is the author of the "Outline for the Founding of the People's Republic," the "Strategy for the Founding of the People's Republic," the "Three People's Principles," and the "Declaration of the First National Congress."
Sun Yat-sen finally understood when he heard this, and he could not hide this time, and he finally agreed to the oral will. At that time, the person responsible for ghostwriting for the will was naturally Wang Jingwei.
Sun Yat-sen made a will
That day, when Sun Yat-sen dictated the will, Soong Ching Ling had been trying to control her emotions, and she tried to focus on the content of the will dictated by her husband.
Sun Yat-sen's will was divided into three parts, one of which was the "Will of State Affairs", the core of which was the most familiar sentence for later generations: "The revolution has not yet succeeded, and comrades still need to work hard." "There is also a will to the Soviet government, because this will is dictated in English, so the recorders are Boroyan, Chen Youren, Song Ziwen, Sun Ke and so on who know English. Its main content is: "I hope that China and the Soviet Union will become allies, and that the two countries will go hand in hand and win victory in the struggle for the freedom of the oppressed nations of the world." ”
Sun Yat-sen's third will and testament was the Family Testament, which is very brief and reads in its entirety:
"Yu was exhausted by state affairs, did not govern the family property, and his clothes, books, and residences were all paid to my wife Song Qingling as a memorial. The children of Yu have grown up, can stand on their own feet, and hope that they will love each other in order to inherit Yu Zhi. This order. ”
This shortest will made Sun Yat-sen think about it the longest. It was only when he made his will that he remembered that he really had nothing left for his beloved wife. The only thing he left for his wife to call it "property" was the "house" in his will, which was a house at 29 Molière Road in Shanghai, which was donated to him by four overseas Chinese and the home he and his wife spent three years together.

In Sun Yat-sen's family will, he did not name anyone, even his own son Sun Ke, he only mentioned it in a stroke, but he deliberately emphasized "my wife Soong Ching Ling", which is actually the result of his long-term consideration for his wife.
Sun Yat-sen knows better than anyone the dangers of politics, and after his death, the changes in the political arena do not know what the scene will be, if in the future his wife Soong Ching Ling is at odds with the political views of party members, some people are bound to try to deal with him from the identity of her "Lady Sun". After all, they were married in Japan at the time, and the marriage documents were stolen later.
Sun Yat-sen felt that if he really came to that day, he would have this sentence "My wife Soong Ching Ling" on his will, which would naturally be a recognition of her identity.
Later, because of his political disagreement with Soong Ching-ling, Chiang Kai-shek tried to erase soong Ching-ling's name as "Lady Sun", and he not only created rumors that she would remarry, but also openly said that "only Sun Yat-sen's original wife Lu Muzhen is the real Lady Sun."
After this incident, Soong Ching-ling was unaffected, which was more or less related to the deliberate emphasis of "My Wife Soong Ching-ling" in Sun Yat-sen's will.

After making the will, when Sun Yat-sen was preparing to sign it, Soong Ching Ling finally couldn't help but cry, and the comrades around him also became sad, and for a while, the atmosphere at the scene became extremely solemn. Sun Yat-sen then waved his hand and decided not to sign for the time being.
Sun Yat-sen's move not to sign after making his will was naturally for his wife's sake, and he could not bear to see her so miserable. On the other hand, his failure to sign also shows that he has not completely given up on himself.
However, on February 24, shortly thereafter, Sun Yat-sen's condition deteriorated further, and he showed signs of swelling throughout his body. While the German doctor Klee treated him, Wang Lun, a Shandong doctor who studied in Japan, also joined the ranks of treatment.
Wang Lun gave Sun Yat-sen the latest Japanese invention to treat pulmonary carbuncle, which was injected every other day. After 7 consecutive injections, Sun Yat-sen's illness was still not alleviated. At this time, Song Qingling's eyes were full of anxiety, and she even crossed her prayers on her chest several times.
On March 10, all the doctors were helpless, and they could only watch from the sidelines. According to historical records, Sun Yat-sen's pulse at that time reached 156 times per minute (abnormal), 78 breaths, and his body temperature was as usual.
However, at this time, Sun Yat-sen's thinking was still clear, and when the party reported the success report of the Crusade against Chen Jiongming's rebels, he showed a relieved expression, and he also specially ordered Wang Jingwei to telegraph Hu Hanmin: "Do not disturb the people." Hearing that her husband was still worried about state affairs when he reached this point, Song Qingling's heart was another colic.
Song Qingling knew that the next few days were likely to be her and her husband's last time, so she was more inseparable from him.
In those days, Song Qingling spent less time lying on the sofa and resting than before, and when people around her urged her to rest, she always refused to move. It was only when her husband was asleep that she lay dazed for a while.
At 8:00 a.m. on March 11, when He Xiangning came to Sun Yat-sen's bedside, he found that his pupils had begun to dilate. She knew that it was a physical trait that a person would only have when he was about to die. After realizing the seriousness of the situation, she quickly came out and said to Wang Jingwei: "Mr. Sun's eyes have begun to scatter. ”
He Xiangning's words naturally urged Wang Jingwei to quickly take the will and sign it.
Immediately, He Xiangning and Song Ziwen explained the situation and Song Qingling. What they did not expect was that Song Qingling was very rational after learning the news, and she knew that her husband's will was a major event related to the country and the nation. So, with red eyes, she said firmly:
"It's time, and not only do I not want to hinder you, I want to help you!"
When she had finished, she turned and went into the house. After a while, she walked out of Sun Yat-sen's hospital room and told everyone that the prime minister was going to sign a will. After saying that, she immediately turned around.
On the same day, when signing the will, Sun Yat-sen's wrist strength was already very weak, and it was only after Soong Ching Ling helped raise his wrist that he successfully signed his name on the three wills.
Because of the help of Soong Ching-ling, sun Yat-sen signed the words "Sun Wen, march 11 to re-sign" very clearly. After he signed, Wang Jingwei signed under the pen reporter, and song Ziwen, Shao Yuanchong, Dai Ensai, Sun Ke, Wu Jingheng, He Xiangning, Kong Xiangxi, Dai Jitao, Zou Lu and nine others present signed as witnesses.
Sun Yat-sen's family affairs will map
After signing the will on state and family affairs, the secretary Chen Youren took out the "Testament to the Soviet Union", which was read by Song Ziwen, and Sun Yat-sen listened to it and signed his name in English: Sun Yat-sen. Subsequently, the witnesses are signed in both Chinese and English.
When everything was completed, Soong Ching Ling still couldn't hold back from crying, and the expression on Sun Yat-sen's face was also very peaceful. When the nurse moved the Kang table where the will was signed, Sun Yat-sen kindly said to the nurse, "Thank you, your work is almost over." The people around him couldn't help but cry bitterly, and Song Qingling was even more sad at this time.
That afternoon after signing the will, when Song Qingling had just left for a while and returned, he found that her husband actually let Li Rong hold his head and let Ma Xiang hold his foot and put him on the ground.
She immediately asked in English, startled, "Honey, what are you going to do?" Sun Yat-sen said, "I will lie down on the ground." Song Qingling listened and said, "The ground is too cold." But Sun Yat-sen replied: "I am not afraid of cold, it is better to have ice." ”
After hearing her husband's words, Song Qingling cried again. Sun Yat-sen was busy comforting her: "Darling, you don't have to be sad, all I have is yours." Song Qingling said while crying: "I don't love anything, only you." After saying that, she was in tears.
On that day, after his spirits had improved, Sun Yat-sen shook his wife's hand and began to explain the aftermath to her. Years later, Song Qingling still remembers the words he said when he confessed the preservation of the body on that day:
"May his remains be preserved in a coffin by means of his friend Lenin with antiseptic medicines."
On the issue of funerals, Sun Yat-sen's explanation is: "The body can be buried in the foothills of the Purple Mountain in Nanjing, because Nanjing is the place where the provisional government was established, so we must not forget the Xinhai Revolution."
Sun Yat-sen's early years
When Sun Yat-sen said these words intermittently, Soong Ching Ling had been crying so much that he couldn't lift his head, and everyone else present was in tears.
After explaining this, Sun Yat-sen repeatedly called out to Liao Zhongkai's wife, He Xiangning. After He Xiangning walked to Sun Yat-sen's sickbed, he looked at her and said word by word: "Mrs. Fu is despised for being proletarian." After listening, He Xiangning hurriedly said, "Lady Sun, of course I will do my best to love and care for her!" After sun Yat-sen listened, he shook He Xiangning's hand and said, "Lady Liao Zhongkai, I thank you..."
At this time, Song Qingling, who heard this, was already crying and unable to speak, she only held her husband's hand hard, she was afraid that as soon as she let go of her hand, he would leave.
That night, Sun Yat-sen summoned his son Sun Ke and son-in-law Dain Sai to the bed, and this time he called them still for his wife Soong Ching Ling. He specifically instructed them: "Let 'Shunshi' Lady Song Qingling."
It is not difficult to see from this kind that the most reassuring thing for Sun Yat-sen before his death was his wife, Soong Ching-ling, who was only 32 years old. In fact, earlier, he had sought out Liao Zhongkai and his wife when they were seriously ill, but on that occasion, his exhortation was that he must not target his wife because she was a Christian.
Mr. and Mrs. Liao Zhongkai
Sun Yat-sen said this because Liao Zhongkai and others were organizing a movement against Christianity at that time, and Soong Ching Ling happened to be a Christian.
People say, "Love will be far-reaching." This kind of "far-reaching plan" is true of parents to their children, and Sun Yat-sen is even more so to his wife.
That night, Sun Yat-sen also spoke a lot, sometimes he spoke Chinese, and sometimes he spoke English. But he repeated those words: "Peace, struggle, save China!" "Comrades, continue my doctrine!" Song Qingling, who was on the side, listened to the "crying miserably."
In the early morning of March 12, when Sun Yat-sen was dying, Soong Ching Ling was holding his right hand and Sun Ke was holding his left hand. At 9:25 a.m., Sun Yat-sen's heart stopped beating, but his eyes were still wide open, and the direction he was looking at was Soong Ching-ling's tear-stained face, his mouth open, as if he still had something to say to her.
Song Qingling saw that her husband was so crying that she couldn't lift her hand, and she always remembered how hard it was when she raised her other hand to close her eyes for her husband. The moment her husband's eyes were closed, she caressed his sickbed and cried her heart out...
Until noon, Song Qingling was in a trance, and her tears never stopped. When escorting her husband's body to the Union Hospital for embalming, she suddenly said to the barber, "Cut some hair and save it in a glass box as a souvenir."
The remains of Sun Yat-sen
On March 12, the third day of Sun Yat-sen's death, it was the day of his burial. When they were officially buried, Song Qingling and Sun Ke and other corpses cried loudly, because they could not stop crying, and finally, the heartbroken Song Qingling was helped out of the hospital and escorted back to the Residence of the Iron Lion Hutong.
After Sun Yat-sen's death, people were surprised to find that Soong Ching Ling suddenly seemed to have changed into a person. Indeed, she changed almost overnight. The look on her face changed, and so did her dress.
When Sun Yat-sen was alive, she often wore European-style skirts, and often wore Chinese tops and skirts, in short, her clothing styles were always so rich. But after her husband's death, she wore only one kind of clothing, and this kind of clothing was the qipao. Except for her exile in Europe, she wore European-style clothing for the rest of her life, and for the rest of her life, she almost always wore a cheongsam. All of her cheongsam, the slit is very low, the highest is only up to the knee, and the color of the cheongsam has always been dark.
Her hairstyle also changed overnight, and in the past, her hairstyle was diverse, but after her husband's death, her hairstyle was only one: long hair combed to the back of her head and coiled into a round bun.
In his later years, Song Qingling
Song Qingling is using this way to express her thoughts and sorrows, and she is also expressing her loyalty to her husband in this way. After that, until her death, she never married again...
Countless years later, the American journalist Snow asked Song Qingling: "What is the most cherished achievement in your life?" After listening to this question, she replied without hesitation:
"It was my loyalty to Dr. Sun Yat-sen (Sun Yat-sen), and I remain loyal from the day I met him until his death!"
The "life and death promise" in the world is more or less the same!
