In the tenth year of the Eastern Jin Dynasty (385), Xie Lingyun was born in Shining County, Huiji County, which is in the area of Shangyu District in present-day Shaoxing, Zhejiang.
Xie Lingyun's origin is very extraordinary, because his ancestral home is Chen County's Yangxia County, that is to say, he is a member of the top door valve "Chen County Xie Clan". When he arrived in Yongjia, Xie Lingyun traveled around in the mountains and rivers, ignoring the affairs of the county, and after playing for a year, Xie Lingyun thought that the life of the mountain and water was suitable for him, so he hastily chose to resign from the government and go into hiding, drinking and having fun in Huiji County.
A year after Xie Lingyun resigned, Emperor Wen of Song ascended the throne as emperor, he killed Xu Xianzhi and took the initiative to recruit Xie Lingyun to serve as a secretary and supervisor, however, at this time, Xie Lingyun was tired of the officialdom, so he twice refused to requisition. Emperor Wen was not dead-hearted, and finally let Xie Lingyun agree to go out of the mountain, but Emperor Wen still regarded him as a literati and did not reuse him, which made him claim to be ill and ask to go home to recuperate. After returning to his hometown, Xie Lingyun indulged in eroticism, so he was impeached and dismissed from office.
Xie Lingyun, who was light and light, was even more rampant, often taking the servants of the palace to parade around, cutting down the forest when he saw it, and the Huijian Taishou Meng Yan was very dissatisfied with this, but Xie Lingyun recognized that the Buddhist science of the other party's faith was not a good learning.
As relations between the two sides deteriorated, Meng Yan could not bear to write to Emperor Wen of Song claiming that Xie Ling used private soldiers in the movement, and for the purpose of protecting Xie Lingyun, Emperor Wen asked him to rely on Linchuan. When he arrived in Linchuan, Xie Lingyun still did many evil deeds, and the king of Linchuan, Zheng Wang, went to arrest him before he died, but was captured by the other side.
Xie Lingyun captured Zheng Wangsheng and fled, but was caught by Ting Wei, who thought that his actions were treasonous and wrote to him to request his execution, but Emperor Wen cherished his literary talents, so he showed that he bypassed Xie Lingyun for Xie Xuan's merits, and only sent him to Guangzhou.
In the tenth year of Yuan Jia (433), Xie Lingyun once gave the people weapons to hire them to rescue himself on the way to escort him, and Emperor Wen finally could not stand his arrogance and debauchery, and ordered him to be executed.
