On October 17th, walking into the depths of The Tarim Poplar Forest Park in Luntai County, a series of winding flood canals are connected to the lake, and wild ducks, geese and gulls play on the lake; grass and trees are overgrown, poplar trees have different shapes, and golden yellow leaves are dazzling in the sun, showing the glory of life.
In order to solve the problem of the degradation of some poplar forests in the Luntai section of the Tarim River Basin, since 2017, Luntai County has implemented the rescue operation of poplar forests in the Tarim River Basin, successively investing 9.7 million yuan, building 22 dredging channels, building 116 kilometers of new and dredging flood channels, and building more than 40 dams. In the past three years, 500,000 mu of poplar forests have been irrigated by flooding, and the trend of natural vegetation degradation has been effectively curbed.
"The flood canal introduces floodwaters into the depths of the poplar forest, and the grass and trees such as poplar and shuttle drink water and grow new leaves." Su Xiaofei, a member of the party group and deputy director of the Luntai County Forestry and Grassland Bureau, said.
"Three years ago, there were only sparse camel thorns and dried poplar trees in this land, but now the red willow shuttle is full and the poplar leaves are growing more densely." Su Xiaofei said that due to the abundant amount of water, the poplar leaves turned yellow about 20 days later than in previous years.
Ranger Ahbayr Ahmat inspects poplar trees. In August this year, he said, he "bathed" some old poplar trees, removed dead branches under the main trunk of the poplar trees below two meters, and cleaned up the trees, which could prevent diseases and insect pests to the greatest extent.
In order to protect the poplar forest, the Luntai County Forestry and Grassland Bureau has set up 19 poplar forest management and protection stations, and 260 management and protection personnel patrol the front line of the forest all year round.
"The ecological environment of poplar forests is getting better and better, the number of rare animals such as red foxes, red deer, lynx and so on has increased dramatically, and various birds have also come here to settle down." Wang Xiangbao, a ranger who has experienced 37 years of wind, frost, rain and snow with Hu Yanglin, said with emotion.
Jiefangqu Village, Lunnan Township, Luntai County, is located next to the Tarim poplar forest, and the villager Wushouer Aili has been herding cattle for a living, and he is a direct beneficiary of the poplar forest rescue operation.
"In recent years, there have been fewer windy and sandy days, and the grass in the poplar forest has grown more and more, and the sheep have to eat." Wushour Ellie said happily.
The ecological function of Tarim poplar forest has been restored, the ecological carrying capacity has been improved, and the various functions and benefits of forestry have also been brought into play.
Tarim Poplar Forest Park was selected by China National Geographic magazine as one of the "Top Ten Most Beautiful Forests in China", attracting many tourists to enjoy the beautiful scenery, and Luntai County has held seven consecutive Poplar Cultural Tourism Festivals here.

"During this year's Poplar Cultural Tourism Festival, there were more than 24,000 tourists in scenic spots, and the tourism income reached more than 850,000 yuan, a new high in the calendar year." Li Ling, deputy director of the Propaganda Department of the Luntai County CPC Committee, said.
"Two years ago, we planted 500 mu of poplar trees, which are growing very well, and next year we plan to plant another 600 mu, and we will also implement 30,000 mu of poplar forest care projects to protect this natural green barrier." Su Xiaofei said.
