On September 29, Cambodian Minister of Tourism Tang Kun, accompanied by Kampot Governor Cheav Tay, inspected the Kampot Port Terminal project. He said that the Kampot International Tourist Port, which is scheduled to be built by the end of 2021, will become an international maritime gateway, an important part of the national transportation system, and an important magnet for attracting domestic and foreign tourists.
Tang Kun said the pier will "connect tourist traffic with the southern islands, connecting Kampot province with the world" and strengthen tourism development in Bokor Mountains and nearby areas, especially coastal areas.
It is reported that the terminal project is located in an area about 6 kilometers west of Kampot town, covers an area of 4 hectares, is provided by the Asian Development Bank with a loan of $8 million, and has a draft of 4.5 meters. Ground was broken on August 8, 2018, built to international standards, and is expected to receive 1 million passengers per year.
The Ministry of Transport said the works were 84 percent complete and expected to be completed on Dec. 31.

Soy Sinol, director of kampot tourism bureau, told the media on September 30 that the pier will breathe new life into the Kampot market and attract tourists from neighboring countries to the province's vast beaches, mountains, natural attractions and other tourist destinations. The project will provide holidaymakers with more transportation options, especially after the world is able to control Covid-19, and international visitors will be able to enter Cambodia through the marina and travel to leisure tourist attractions across the country.
Soy Sinol said: "We are eagerly waiting to receive tourists through the port, and this project is the first of its kind in our province and is expected to attract more investors' attention." ”
Ho Vandy, managing director of World Express Co Ltd, echoed Sinol's enthusiasm, believing that the establishment of the marina and entertainment venues would make Kampot more attractive for travelers and investment in all industries, with a significant increase in the number of holidaymakers looking to travel to Saudi Arabia from neighbouring countries.
"The diversification of tourism through water transport allows tourists to try new experiences, rather than just air flights and land car travel," he said.
In addition, according to the Ministry of Tourism, from January to July 2021, Cambodia received a total of 112,544 international tourists, a sharp drop of 90.6% year-on-year, and only two entered the Kingdom by water.
