Film actor Yu Ping, originally from Wuhe, Anhui, was born on February 16, 1940 in Beibei, Chongqing. In 1949, Yu Ping, who was less than ten years old, moved to Nanjing with his parents, where he ushered in the birth of a new China. In 1953, Yu Ping entered Nanjing Municipal No. 2 Middle School, where Yu Ping's artistic talent was discovered by the teacher and cultivated by the teacher, and he served as the head of the school's repertory theater troupe, often participating in various performances and literary and artistic activities.
In 1959, after graduating from high school, Yu Ping was admitted to the Actors Troupe of beijing film studio and became a film actor. In 1960, Yu Ping first starred as a country girl Chunlan in the movie "Red Flag Spectrum". Her performances are simple and natural, convincingly shaping a typical image of a rural woman in old China in the 1920s. The Chunlan portrayed by Yu Ping gives people a refreshing feeling, and basically determines the development direction of Yu Ping's film career.
After the movie "Red Flag Spectrum", in the early 1960s, Yu Ping successively starred as Xiao Shuying, a commune weather sentry forecaster in "Cultivating Clouds and Sowing Rain", Liu Guilan, a child adopted daughter-in-law in "The Tempest", Fang Ping, a student in "Early Spring and February", and Sun Yulan, a rural girl in the movie "Fenshui Long Stream". In 1964, Yu Ping played the heroine XiaoQin in the movie "Little Erhei Married". In the film, Xiaoqin, a rural girl played by Yu Ping, disregards secular prejudices, has the courage to fight against the old forces in the countryside, decides her own destiny, and successfully shows the awakening of new Chinese women in the pursuit of marital autonomy and equality between men and women. XiaoQin in the film is the creative peak of Yu Ping's entire film career. It was also Yu Ping's last bloom in the film world before the storm of the Cultural Revolution. In the following decade, Yu Ping, who was in his youth, was forced to leave the film industry like most Chinese film actors. Sheltering in the countryside, doing work that has nothing to do with movies, wasting their youth like gold.
It was not until 1973 that Yu Ping returned to the long-lost Beijing Film Studio and returned to the screen. In the Cultural Revolution version of "Southern Expedition and Northern War" and "Mango Song", he starred as guerrilla leader Zhao Yumin and Gongxuan team leader Caiyun. In 1977, Yu Ping was seconded to Shangying and played the female military doctor Xiang Hui in the film "Youth". The female military doctor Xiang Hui was a military doctor from the Red Army, more than 20 years older than Yu Ping's actual age, which was a very big test for Yu Ping. In order to be able to play the female military doctor Xiang Hui, Yu Ping, under the guidance of the artistic purpose of being loyal to the role and serious about art, actively studied the script, deeply experienced the life of the military doctor, carefully observed the demeanor, posture, action and tone of the middle-aged and elderly people, and finally showed the audience an image of a respectable old Red Army, won the audience's recognition, and achieved success.
The decade from the mid-1970s to the mid-1980s was the golden decade of actor Yu Ping's performance creation. In the past ten years, Yu Ping has played major or important roles in dozens of films such as "Ju lan", "Li Siguang", "Traitor", "Nightmare Waking Up is Morning", "Love and Legacy", "Heartstrings", "Soul Blue Sky", "Dragon Species", "Red and White", "Citizens Born From Here", "Blood Sacrifice Huangsha Town", "Tears In Taipei" and so on. In addition to film works, Yu Ping has also filmed TV series such as "Finding the World To Come Back" and "Operation Beifei". He also voiced Shedd's daughter Azra in the classic translation and production "Walter Defends Sarajevo", leaving a classic legend in the Chinese film industry.
In 2017, Yu Ping won the Special Honor Award of the "Golden Phoenix Award" of the 16th China Film Performing Arts Society.
