The novel "Little Erhei Marriage" was first published by The Taihang Xinhua Bookstore in September 1943; the first publication was published by the inaugural issue of New Culture on October 28, 1945, and more than 70 years have passed since today. It turned out that zhao Shuli, who was engaged in anti-Japanese propaganda work, was conducting research in the countryside of Liaoxian County (present-day Zuoquan County, Shanxi) when he heard the tragic story of a young man and woman Yue Dongzhi and Zhi Yingxiang who were killed by yue dongzhi in the process of pursuing free love due to obstruction by the village, parents, cadres, and other parties. Based on this, Zhao Shuli created a novel "Little Erhei Marriage" in May 1943 that lashed out at feudal ideas and praised marital autonomy, and the novel was quickly circulated in the form of a manuscript as soon as it was written.
Zhao Shuli also sent the manuscript of "The Marriage of Little Two Blacks" to Yang Xianzhen, secretary general of the Northern Bureau of the Communist Party of China. After reading it, Yang Xianzhen thought that this was a good work that was popular and lively and fresh in style, so he recommended the novel to Pu Anxiu, secretary of the Women's Committee of the Northern Bureau. As the wife of Peng Dehuai, deputy commander-in-chief of the Eighth Route Army and secretary of the North China Branch of the Central Military Commission of the CPC Central Committee, Pu Anxiu also had a special task of collecting and providing good books for her husband in his spare time. When Peng Dehuai saw "Little Two Black Marriage" and read it all night, he read it in only one night, and he was very appreciative of the case. Later, according to her husband's opinion, Pu Anxiu suggested to the person in charge of Taihang Xinhua Bookstore to publish it as soon as possible, and stressed that Peng Dehuai and Yang Xianzhen greatly appreciated and attached importance to the book, but it was like a mud cow into the sea, and there was no following.
The reason is that the person in charge of the Taihang Xinhua Bookstore believes that "The Marriage of Little Two Blacks" has written the cadres of the grass-roots anti-Japanese democratic regime as new bullies who are rampant and unscrupulous, and they are worried that after publication, they will lead to bad social impact.
Until August 1943, "The Marriage of Little Erhei" still could not be published, and Zhao Shuli retrieved the manuscript and handed it to Yang Xianzhen again. Yang Xianzhen personally went to Peng Dehuai to reflect on this situation. Deputy Commander Peng expressed support for the publication of the novel and wrote an inscription for the book: "There are few popular stories like this written from mass investigation and research. It was also specifically explained that this was an inscription that he had focused on "investigative research." Later, Deputy Commander Peng specially asked Li Dazhang, director of the Propaganda Department of the Northern Bureau of the CPC, to forward his inscription to the Taihang Xinhua Bookstore. Thus, in September 1943, the title page with Peng Dehuai's inscription on only a thin 22-page, earthen paper lead print "Little Two Black Marriage" was finally published.
As soon as "Little Two Black Marriage" came out, it was welcomed by the vast number of readers as never before. The literary and artistic works of Taihang Xinhua Bookstore have generally reached the saturation point by printing 2,000 copies, and the first edition of the humble pamphlet with "popular stories" printed on the cover has even printed 20,000 copies, or the supply is in short supply. In March of the following year, the bookstore decided to re-typeset and reprint 20,000 copies, and specially explained: "This popular story of free marriage for young and old who love to read and listen to has been popular since its publication in September last year, and it was sold out in a few days. This time it was typeset in large print with interesting illustrations. ”
In addition to the Taihang Mountain base area, it was also published and distributed in Jizhong, Shandong, Jinsui, Huaibei and other base areas, and the novel also spread to the Kuomintang-ruled areas and the Japanese and pseudo-enemy-occupied areas. According to relevant statistics, at that time, in the Areas ruled by The Japanese and Puppets, in addition to the manuscripts, there were more than 10 kinds of editions that could be collected, such as the 1946 edition of Xinhua Bookstore, the 1947 edition of Northeast Pictorial Newspaper, the 1947 edition of Northeastern University, the 1947 edition of Hong Kong New Democracy Publishing House, the 1947 edition of Shanxi Lvliang Education Publishing House, the 1948 edition of Northeast Bookstore, the 1948 edition of North China University, and so on.
In addition, it has been translated into Russian, Japanese, French, Czech, Romanian, Vietnamese, Norwegian, Indonesian and other languages, and has published more than 50 editions abroad. The grand event after the publication of "Little Two Black Marriage" really surprised everyone's expectations. Later, in the 1950s, the film of the same name of "Little Two Black Marriage" was put on the movie screen. Subsequently, the commentary version and the Yu opera version appeared one after another, and "Little Two Black Marriage" became a well-known classic work and was more widely disseminated.
In February 1947, Zhao Shuli was interviewed by the American journalist Belden in Hebei, and the foreign journalist wrote in his book "China Shakes the World" that Zhao Shuli "may be the most famous person in the Communist area besides Mao Zedong and Zhu De."
