Today I came to the Military Museum, and in the theme exhibition of the 70th anniversary of the Chinese Volunteer Army's War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, I saw the only photo of Xu Jiapeng and heard the story of his blocking the gun hole.

This is a photo taken by Xu Jiapeng when he joined the army when he was 20 years old. In July 1953, the last battle of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, the Jincheng Counterattack, was launched. Xu Jiapeng submitted an application to the party organization to join the party, saying that he wanted to make meritorious contributions in the line of fire, and submitted a letter of determination.

On the night of July 6, Xu Jiapeng's assault platoon was ordered to open the way for the large troops, and when they reached the main peak of the North Mountain, they were suddenly strafed by the enemy's machine guns in the bunker, and the attack was blocked. War correspondent Yao Jing witnessed the entire battle.

Xu Jiapeng took the explosives package and ran over in a very low posture, a bomb broke his right leg, but he continued to climb forward, climbed to the bunker close to the US army, pulled down the US gun rack, and the people stood up.

Xu Jiapeng blocked the bullet with his body and fulfilled his oath to the party with his life. Relying on his cover, the large army quickly crossed the bunker, completely annihilated the main peak to defend more than 100 enemy people, and the counterattack was victorious.

On February 15, 1954, the leading organ of the Volunteer Army posthumously awarded Xu Jiapeng a special merit, and on May 24 of the same year, the party committee of his unit posthumously recognized him as a member of the Communist Party of China.

Looking at the childish face of Xu Jiapeng who is smaller than me in the photo, I can't help but wonder, what exactly is it that makes a young life willing to use his chest to block the gun hole? Maybe everyone has their own answers. I think one of the most valuable things is the unswerving loyalty of Xu Jiapeng and his idol Huang Jiguang to their oath of "ready to sacrifice everything for the party and the people at any time."
