Yuan Xi was a first-class meritorious soldier of the 417th Regiment of the 139th Division of the Lanzhou Military Region, and a veteran who had participated in the counterattack against Vietnam, he used his camera to record the heroic deeds of the "1.7" battle, the most fierce attack and pull-out battle since the "4.28" retake of Laoshan. After Yuan Xi was killed in the "1.7 Battle", his ashes were buried in Shishe Township, Xifeng District, Qingyang City.

On January 7, 1987, the fourth company of the 147th Regiment of the 139th Division of the Lanzhou Military Region and its subordinate units organized a point-out battle against the enemy's occupation of the 167th heights, which was the most fierce battle since the recapture of Laoshan in 1984. Before the war, the superiors knew the cruelty and hardship of this battle, and also knew that this battle would definitely produce many combat heroes, so they transferred Shi Zhengde, an officer of the organization unit who engaged in writing, from the political department, Yuan Xi, the photography officer of the propaganda unit, and Li Bing, the camera officer, to participate in the battle together with the commando team.

Shi Zhengde's main task is to understand and familiarize himself with the heroic deeds, to master first-hand materials for reporting battle heroes and first-class merits, and to be responsible for counting the number of people (living to see people, dead to see corpses, the numbers are not matched, the battle is not over), Yuan Xi and Li Bin's task is to shoot the video data of this battle.

At 7:00 a.m., as the fire of our army's ten thousand cannons roared in unison reflected the red sky, the first commandos lurking under the enemy's eyes and noses, under the leadership of Captain Guo Ji'er, quickly launched an attack, taking the form of fighting, bombing, blocking, burning, and encircling, and completely annihilating the enemy in only 37 minutes and capturing the 167 heights occupied by the enemy. The stubborn enemy seemed to have been prepared for this sneak attack on our side, and the feint attack organized by the former commandant in other directions did not make him misjudged, and when the battle began, he launched a frenzied counterattack on me, and while covering our first commando team with artillery fire, concentrated fire to block my entry and exit passages, in an attempt to cut off the retreat of the first commando, prevent the reinforcement of the second commando and the rush of the wounded and martyrs of the third commando.

The battle was extremely fierce, arduous and cruel, and the first commando team suffered tens of thousands of shells from the enemy on this position of less than 10,000 square meters, and the shells of the rainstorm blew up the position like a sea of fire, and the second and third commandos were even more followed by heavy casualties. The battle lasted for more than 10 hours, until the shells prepared by both sides were exhausted, and the 8 surviving commandos were ordered to support each other to withdraw from the battle after cleaning up the battlefield and checking to confirm that no remains of a martyr were left behind.

Li Yushan, a second-class meritorious officer, was in the Second Commando Corps during the "1.7" battle, and his main task was to lead three comrades-in-arms to protect the three cameramen and data collection personnel of the Political Department. After the battle began, after they blew up the intended target, they were on the way to the rapid impact to the summit, several enemy shells "blossomed" among the 6 of them, and Li Yushan, who was rushed by the shock wave to the top of a rock, immediately passed out, and the rainstorm of artillery fire ravaged him, causing him to be hit by nearly two hundred pieces of shrapnel all over his body, and he was scaled all over, but the God of Death was finally defeated by Li Yushan, the lucky hero, Yuan Xi and Li Bin and the three fighters of the commando team responsible for protecting them, in the shells like ploughing the ground. Again and again, he was blown up and broke his limbs and arms, and his body was completely skinless, and all of them were heroically sacrificed... Yuan Xi and Li Bin used their lives to feel the heroism of the warriors who sacrificed their blood and lives for the motherland and the people... After the war, the martyrs Yuan Xi and Li Bin were both awarded first-class merit.
