The unpopular good movie "The Last Castle" is shared
Today, I would like to share with the big one a relatively unpopular but very good movie: "The Last Castle".
Released in 2001, the film introduces us to the definition of a castle at the beginning, and the conversation is sharp, but it is straightforward to make it clear that the story we are going to tell today is not a beautiful castle to defend against foreign enemies, but a castle for prisoners - a prison.
Today our protagonist, U.S. Army General Elvin, was sentenced to this military prison for disobeying the president's orders, resulting in the deaths of 8 people, which housed former American soldiers. The warden was a little surprised when he learned that Elvin was going to be held in this prison, because the warden was a small fan of Elvin and he was quite adored of Elvin. However, when he heard Elvin say that "only people who have never been to the battlefield collect war items", the warden was unable to hold back, and it was clear that the warden did not like to be pointed at, even if it was his idol. From this, it can be seen that the warden is a very arrogant and careful person, and also lays the groundwork for the discord between the warden and Elvin.
In prison, Elvin met a seemingly ineffectual boy who had once been a Marine, who seemed less confident because of his past mistakes and saluted by lifting his hand and grabbing his hair. Then Elvin told the young man about the origin of the military salute, helped the young man regain his dignity as a soldier, and finally the young man gave a serious salute. However, this scene was seen by the warden, who punished the young man for standing in the rain for a long time, because salutes were not allowed in the prison. It can only be said that Elvin was kind enough to do bad things, he didn't know that the warden was so perverted. The warden also did this to wear away the pride of the prisoners who had once been soldiers and to facilitate management.
Elvin's speaking for the young man also offended the warden, or the warden had wanted to find fault. The next day, the warden asked Elvin to move the stones, which were very heavy and quite large. The inmates in the prison were all betting that Elvin would be able to move. And our Hulk Uncle Mark, in this play plays a little slippery head Yaz, who is responsible for recording gambling in prison, and Yates's father and Elvin are comrades-in-arms.
The warden's original purpose was to thwart Elvin's pride as a general and facilitate management, but this time it backfired, Elvin gained more popularity, the prison inmates had more respect for Elvin, and that night, the prisoners spontaneously knocked on the cell door with their own military name tags in their cells to show their admiration for Elvin.
The warden saw all this in his eyes, so he was anxious. The warden summoned Elvin again and asked him a question, the same question he had asked when he first came in: "What are your expectations for serving your sentence?" Elvin's answer was the same as that of the one who had just come in: "Serve your sentence and go home." It can be seen that Elvin did not want to do things while he was in prison, but unfortunately the warden did not believe it, because Elvin did something that he could not accept. It can only be said that the two people have different concepts, one wants to control the prisoners and deprive them of their dignity, and the other wants to give the prisoners reasonable needs and dignity. The difference in the two concepts dooms the outbreak of contradictions to be inevitable.
Finally, the fuse of the outbreak of contradiction appeared.
The warden called for a bulldozer to tear down the wall of faith that the prisoners had built together, and the boy valued the wall so much that he blocked the bulldozer with his body. But the warden ignored it and ordered the sentry to shoot the boy in the head. Although it was a rubber bullet, it was enough to kill people in the brain. Seeing this, my eyes were moist.
This operation by the warden can be said to have angered all the prisoners in the prison. The prisoners, led by Elvin, began plotting a riot. But the warden is not a fool, he is watching all this, but the information he knows is still limited, after all, the prisoners here were once soldiers, not so soft-headed. However, the warden discovers Yates's discord with the other prisoners and wants to plot against him.
Yates was a little shaken at first, after all, he did not recognize his father, who had been Elvin's comrade-in-arms, and Yes's personality was relatively sleek, so he would still give priority to his own interests. The warden promised to get Yates out of jail early.
But after Elvin's teaching, and his own dignity as a soldier has not completely disappeared, in the end, our Yates chose to help the prisoners.
Yates helped the inmates steal the American flag in the warden's office. The purpose of the prisoners in obtaining the American flag was to hang the flag upside down, which is a common signal for international calls for help. The prisoners intend to hang the American flag upside down on the day of the riot to ask for help and get out of the control of the perverted warden.
The film enters its climax – the prison riots.
The prisoners, under Elvin's command, created a number of interesting weapons and confrontation strategies. They built improvised trebuchets, simple bazookas, and enhanced versions of slingshots.
These three things made the prison guards choke enough, after all, the prison guards could only use rubber bullets, had not yet obtained the right to use real guns, and the guards were locked in the cell for some time. Later, Yates also took the plane and crashed into the sentry tower.
Unfortunately, the guards quickly reorganized their ranks and controlled the prisoners with live ammunition. The warden told the prisoners to crouch on the ground or shoot, but the prisoners had already regained their dignity as soldiers, and no one listened to the warden and squatted. But for the sake of everyone's safety, our protagonist still told everyone to squat. The prisoners, though they did not listen to the warden, were willing to listen to Elvin and squatted.
But Elvin himself did not crouch down, holding the flag toward the lifting pole. At this time, the warden was in a hurry and ordered the guards to shoot, and at this time the deputy of the warden found out in his conscience and signaled the soldiers not to shoot. Apparently, the soldiers preferred to listen to their deputies, and perhaps they did not want to shoot the respectable general.
The warden was getting more and more anxious, because no one wanted to listen to his orders anymore. Watching Elvin begin to raise the flag, the warden fired several shots at Elvin. The deputy could not look at it any longer, pointed a gun at the warden, asked the warden to close his hands, and handcuffed the warden.
Elvin finally raised the flag, but everyone was surprised to find that he did not hang the flag upside down, but raised it normally, and everyone was deeply impressed and saluted the flag.
This part is typical of the American spirit, and I will not say more.
At the end of the film, Elvin dies and the prisoners return to normal prison life. At the end of the film, it is not clear whether there have been any changes in the prison, perhaps it wants to leave us with a space for imagination.
The film is generally worth watching, reflecting a lot of problems in the film, but also reflecting some unreasonable places in the US prison and government system, and even judicial loopholes.
