Be the truest version of yourself in a conversation with Hepburn son Luca Dotti

author:Miss Joyce

"What is it like to have a mother of superstars who has attracted the world's attention?" I think that's the most question anyone wants to ask when they see Luca. At the first sight of Luca, many people will feel that there is no shadow of his mother in him. But in Luca's view, he is the real self, without any label.

Born in 1970, Luca Doti is the son of Audrey Hepburn and her second husband, The Italian psychiatrist Professor André Doti.

Luca spent most of his student years in Rome and later studied and worked as a graphic designer in London, where rome and Paris were home to his master's degree in typography. In 2011, Luca created the "Audrey a Roma" exhibition to help UNICEF in Caid's mission, related to the book "Audrey in Rome". In 2015, Luca published the New York Times bestseller "Audrey in Rome."

Luca was involved in her mother's humanitarian legacy and joined audrey Hepburn's children's fund (www.audreyhepburn.com) in 2013 as chair of the board.

Luca Dotti was interviewed by Chinese media in Shanghai

Did your mother have some memorable memories and stories with her after she left the big screen?

Luca: Actually, there are a lot of memories, and I have a hard time picking one to say. If I had to choose, I think it would have been one year when we went on vacation to Jamaica together, which was a very surprising thing and a very special experience. On the one hand, I am happy to have the opportunity to explore a strange country, and on the other hand, I am also happy to be able to go with my family. Although in fact, the journey was not as exciting as I thought, but I enjoyed the time I spent with my family on vacation. For my mother, although she has been to many countries, it is a first time to go on vacation with her family. She also enjoyed it very much.

How do you think your mother's cooking skills are? Which dish impressed you the most?

Luca: My mom is a professional cook. She loves her family and takes good care of her children and pets. She does know how to cook, so that's why we often stay at home, otherwise we would eat out a lot. Cooking is her normal routine at home. When it comes to favorite dishes, I think it should be chocolate cake, which she learned in Switzerland, and my wife will make this too.

What do you think of your mother's leading fashion for half a century?

Luca: I don't think it's something she deliberately decided. Her physical features, dress style, and manners still look like a model, as if magical. I can't say the specifics, but I think it's very magical.

Did you think your mother was dissatisfied with her facial features?

Luca: She's actually quite dissatisfied with her facial features. She felt her nose was too big, her ears were too big, and her feet were too big. I think the perfect image is a combination of elements of different traits, which includes some imperfections, which I think is normal.

This time you brought the exhibition "Timeless Classics: Audrey Hepburn" to Shanghai, how did you choose this theme? At the same time, how do you understand this "classic" of your mother?

Luca: First of all, this is a ritual for my deceased mother, but we don't just mention the past, because my mother also represents the modern independent woman to some extent, and her value to society is eternal. At the level of her film and television works, although so many years have passed, the characters that my mother created on the big screen before she was born still seem very modern and vivid.

Compared with Hepburn exhibitions in other places, what are the characteristics of this exhibition in Shanghai?

Luca: It's a hard question to answer. Just like children are to their parents, every child is unique. At this stop in Shanghai, we will present many precious collections, such as the Oscar trophy that my mother won at that time, the motorcycle that appeared in the movie, and so on. More importantly, this exhibition will be a very interesting exhibition, which will be reflected in the way of the exhibition. After the design of the Tai Lai designers, many interactive links with exhibitors have been added, and the interest of the exhibition will be greatly increased. Through these interactions, let everyone know my mother more fully.
