Beijing, 15 Sep (Xinhua) -- The play "Guide to The Cultivation of Strange Dreams," based on the debut play of German dramatist Bertol Brecht, "A Guide to The Cultivation of Strange Dreams," will premiere at the Mandarin Pioneer Theater in Beijing on 18 September.

Brecht has studied Chinese culture, and his masterpieces "The Good Man of Sichuan" and "The Caucasian Gray Graduate" are all related to China. His theory of distancing effects has had a great influence on contemporary Chinese drama, especially the exploratory drama of the new period.

In 1918, Brecht created the first script "Barr", expressing his criticism of the moral hypocrisy of the capitalist class. In the decades that followed, Brecht made several tweaks to the show. The Guide to Strange Dreams is based on a French translation of the last edition in 1955, the year before his death.

He said his rehearsal version would use character narration, original music singing, puppets, masks, helium voice changers, etc., to achieve Brecht's discrete performance. "We tried our best to try out more expressions and techniques on stage, hoping to have a 'weird dream' with the audience."
