Binoche revealed that he and Kore-eda met at the Cannes Film Festival 12 years ago, and expressed their desire to cooperate with him at that time, until this time, when the trip finally came to fruition. According to her recollection, it was Kore-eda who was not a director on set who liked to coach the actors by hand, "He would give the actors enough space." Before starring in Godard's "Tribute to Mary," Binoche worked as a cashier in a department store, arguably Godard putting her on the film path.
