Emperor Zhaoxuan issued the Edict of Abdication

author:Interesting history

On May 12, 907, on March 27, 907, Tang Tianyou's last emperor, Emperor Zhaoxuan, issued the Edict of Abdication, declaring that Chan had given up his position at Zhuwen, and by this time, the Tang Dynasty, one of the most powerful dynasties in Chinese history, had essentially completely perished. Since the founding of the Tang Empire in 618 AD, it has ruled China for 290 years, and there have been 21 emperors (not counting Wu Zetian is 20).

Emperor Li Ofe (zhù) (892–908), originally known as Li Zuo,was the ninth son of Emperor Zhaozong of Tang and the last emperor of the Tang Dynasty.

In the fourth year of Qianning (897), he was the King of Fenghui. In the third year of Tianfu (903), he was appointed as the Kaifu Yi Tongsan Division and the Marshal of the Soldiers and Horses of Chongzhu Province. In the first year of Tianyou (904), after Tang Zhaozong was killed, Jiang Xuanhui falsely passed on his will and proclaimed Li Yu to the throne.

In June of the second year of Tianyou (905), Zhu Quanzhong, at the instigation of his close associates Li Zhen and Liu Xuan, killed more than 30 people from the imperial court, including Pei Shu, Du Guozhan, and Cui Yuan, who had gathered them at baima yi by the Yellow River, and threw their bodies into the river, creating a shocking "white horse change".

In December of the second year of Tianyou (905), Zhu Quanzhong, because of Xuanhui's deputy envoys Jiang Yin and Zhao Yinheng falsely accused Jiang Xuanhui of "serving Jishan Palace (Empress He's residence) privately, and swearing an alliance with Liu Xuan and Zhang Tingfan to seek the revival of Tang Zuo", executed Jiang Xuanhui, secretly ordered Jiang Yin and Zhao Yinheng to hang Empress He at Jishan Palace, and forced Emperor Wu to issue an edict saying that Empress He had committed suicide because of the chaos in the palace, posthumously deposed her as a shuren, and abolished the New Year's ceremony for the three days of the empress dowager's funeral and palace scandal. Soon, Liu Xuan was demoted to death, and his brothers were all executed. Zhang Tingfan, the prince of Taichang, was dismembered by five horses, and his accomplices were removed from their names and given to the deceased. Zhu Quanzhong was already alive and dead, and he had great power in his hands.

In March of the fourth year of Tianyou (907), Emperor Wu was persecuted by Zhu Quanzhong, who was then the marshal of the Terracotta Army and the King of Liang, and his cronies to "zen" the throne to Zhu Quanzhong, and the tang dynasty, which was once prosperous, was destroyed.

After emperor Ai of Tang ascended the throne, he was first demoted to the title of King of Jiyin, moved to Cao Prefecture (曹州, in modern Heze, Shandong), north of Kaifeng, and was placed in the residence of Zhu Quanzhong's confidant Shu Chun. However, due to the fact that Li Keyong, Fengxiang Li Maozhen, and Xichuan Wang Jian were still serving emperors at that time, the existence of the deposed emperor made Zhu Quanzhong uneasy, so on February 21 (March 26) of the fifth year of Tianyou (Kaiping II, 908), Zhu Wen sent people to Cao Prefecture to poison Li Yu. After his death, he was given the title of Emperor Of Sorrow and was buried as a prince in Dingtao Township, Jiyin County (present-day Dingtao County, Heze, Shandong).

Later Emperor Mingzong of Tang posthumously honored him as Emperor Zhaoxuanguang Liexiao, but because he was founded by the usurper Zhu Wen and his parents were also killed by Zhu Wen and eventually destroyed the country, under the discussion of later Tang courtiers, the temple name Jingzong was not adopted, so later generations called Li Li "Emperor of Tang" or "Emperor Xuan of Tang Zhao".
