In March of the first year of Yongxi (532), Gao Huan marched into the Wei capital Luoyang, and established Yuan Xiu as Emperor Xiaowu, and declared himself The Great Chancellor, The Great General of Tianzhu and Taishi, becoming the "Emperor Taishang" who actually controlled the Northern Wei regime.
In July of that year, Gao Huan personally led an army of 100,000 to conquer Jinyang (ancient Taiyuan, also known as Hezhou), built the Jinyang Palace and the Great Chancellor's Mansion in Jinyang, and settled in Jinyang to remotely control the government. From then on, Gao Huan and later northern Qi emperors deliberately managed Jinyang, making Jinyang the de facto political center of the three generations of Northern Wei, Eastern Wei, and Northern Qi.
Gao Huan, a buddhist believer, excavated two Buddhist grottoes on Tianlong Mountain, twelve kilometers southwest of Jinyang City, and built a summer palace on Tianlong Mountain.
Emperor Gao Yang of Northern Qi was the first emperor of Northern Qi and reigned for ten years. He was Gao Huan's second son.
In March of the eighth year (550) of the Eastern Wei Dynasty, Gao Yang took out the Zen throne book that had been written earlier, and let Emperor Xiaojing sign a name, and Emperor Wenxuan Gao Yang took the throne in a formal manner, with the state name Qi, Jianyuan Tianbao, and the capital Yicheng, which was known as Northern Qi.
Gao Yang believed in Buddhism like his father Gao Huan, and often went to Tianlong Mountain to worship the Grotto Buddha.
On the night of the mid-autumn festival on the fifteenth day of August in the first year of Tianbao, Emperor Wenxuan, who was admiring the moon at the Tianlong Mountain Summer Palace, stepped out of the palace gate and walked slowly along the mountain path, only to see that the moon was as round as a disk, full of pines and cypress springs hanging in the stream, the night wind blew through, the Buddha lights in front of the cave appeared from time to time, and the Temple Sanskrit sound was sometimes absent, which made him obsessed.
Suddenly, he found that on the platform in front of the White Dragon Cave, there was an old man dressed in white who was shaking his head and singing poetry to admire the moon:
The bells of the Smoke Temple sounded out of the lotus, and a round of silver plates hung on the Heavenly River. Kun Kunming's shadow is faint, and Gong Gong's shadow is more Buddha. The color of the trees gradually looks at the back, and the mountain shape is slightly seen in the green saga. Pure void imagery this middle consciousness, who understands the mortal night song.
Gao Yang was shocked and was about to have a seizure, when he suddenly thought that there was no one on this mountain, heavily guarded on all sides, and the moon was quiet on the night.

The old man in white turned his head back to look at Shang Zuo and smiled: "Return the courtesy, return the ceremony, it turned out to be the second son of the Gao family, oh, right, right, it was Emperor Wenxuan."

Who knew that the old man in white looked up at the moon and said, "Build the capital Yecheng and live in Jinyang." yes! People are born of the five elements of yin and yang. Qi is the pulse, the pulse is the Jinyang Dragon Vein, and those who get jinyang get the world. Jinyang Zhende, if you can Buddha Town Qiankun, can protect several generations of emperors... Oops, the sky is the limit. Before he finished speaking, he saw that the white shadow disappeared in a flash.
Emperor Wenxuan Gao Yang saw that the old man in white was gone, but he met the immortals, prayed three times to the sky, and carefully recalled every word that the old man in white said: Qi is the pulse, the pulse is the dragon vein of Jinyang, and the one who gets Jinyang wins the world. Jinyang Zhende, if Nengfo Town Qiankun, can guarantee several generations of cheng... The sky is the limit. Thinking of this, Emperor Wenxuan Gao Yangyue did not appreciate it, and immediately returned to the Jinyang Palace at night, summoning Cheng Xiang and others to quickly enter the palace to discuss and crack the mystery.
After repeated deliberation, the crowd believed that Jinyang Zhende took Jinyang as the seismic position.
Shake all things for the East; The emperor is out of Pingzhen, and the emperor is also the emperor; Virtue is Tude; The seismic position is the position of the eastern man. The dry seat represents the heavens, the heavenly seats. Kun represents the earth, is the status, is the pattern of heaven, earth and man; Zhen position Jinyang Palace is Zhende, such as Nengfo Town Qiankun, that is, to build a big Buddha in the Qian and Kun positions, to town heaven and earth, when the country and mountains are forever solid. Emperor Wenxuan looked up at the sky and shouted: In order to protect our great Qi jiangshan, we must devote the strength of the whole country to it.
The Great Rock Temple in the northwest of Mengshan and Zhou is in the dry position. Therefore, Emperor Wenxuan gao yang edict high monk Lingquan presided over the chiseling of Buddhas near the Dayan Temple in Mengshan and Zhou (Lingxuan, Northern Wei senior monk, comprehensive group of classics and world classics, Nengwen and Gong calligraphy and painting, Northern Qi chu, in Jinyang nai was a monk).
In the second year of Northern Qi Tianbao (551), the Mengshan Giant Buddha began to be chiseled.
Emperor Gao Yang of Wenxuan also ordered the Zen master Hongli to investigate and select the Kun position to build a temple to chisel the Buddha, and in the seventh year of Tianbao (556), he built a Tongzi Temple in the southwest Kunwei Longshan and excavated the Longshan Giant Buddha.
After five emperors and more than 20 years, the Mengshan Giant Buddha and the Longshan Giant Buddha engraved on the mountain were completed. There is a difference of five years between the excavations of the two great Buddhas. Qianwei Mengshan Kaihua Temple chiseled a 200-foot-tall Moya Buddha. The 170-foot-tall Buddha of Kunwei Longshan Tongzi Temple.
Finally, I would like to say that the Mengshan Giant Buddha has experienced a storm of ticket price increases.
