Changing orders is the way to take misfortune, and there are many such lessons in history. However, the situation on the battlefield is changing rapidly, too rigid to the original plan, do not know how to adapt to changes, and it is also difficult to win the battle. How to balance the relationship between the two is a great test of the commander's skill.
In September 1947, the Northeast Democratic Coalition Army launched the Autumn Offensive, and Chiang Kai-shek was forced to draw 5 divisions from the Jin-Cha-Ji battlefield to reinforce. In accordance with the instructions of the headquarters, the Jin-Cha-Ji Field Army decided to attack the area north of Baoding with its main force in order to seek an opportunity to annihilate the enemy and cooperate with our army in the northeast, besiege Xushui, attract enemy reinforcements, and then seek opportunities to annihilate enemy reinforcements in the movement. To this end, Yang Dezhi, commander of the field army, drew up 3 sets of combat plans before the war.

Plan 1: If the enemy in Zhuoxian and Baxian comes to the aid, our army will concentrate its forces to annihilate the enemy north of Xushui.
Plan two: If the enemy in Baoding comes to the rescue, our army will concentrate its forces to annihilate the enemy south of Xushui.
Plan Three: If the enemy sends reinforcements of more than 5 divisions, our army, after inflicting heavy damage on the enemy, will move west of Suicheng to lure the enemy to the west. After the enemy is dispersed, they will be annihilated.
On October 11, our army launched a siege on the outskirts of Xushui. On the 14th of the battle, the 3rd column captured Beihedian and the 2nd column captured Xushui South Pass and North Pass, and once landed on Xushui City, giving the enemy a strong shock. Sun Lianzhong, director of the Baoding Appeasement Office, saw that our army's offensive was fierce and Xu Shui was in danger, so he hastily dispatched the strength of 5 divisions of the 94th Army, the 16th Army, and other departments to the south to reinforce Xushui. Yang Dezhi saw that there were many enemies coming, and it was difficult for our army to "swallow" in one bite, so he decided to concentrate his forces to "cut" a part of the enemy's 94th Army from the deployment of the campaign to aid the enemy and annihilate it.
However, from October 15 to 17, our army launched two attacks, but they were unable to succeed because of the enemy hedgehogs. In order to break the deadlock in the Baobei War, Yang Dezhi was determined to implement the third set of combat plans, so that the main force of the field army began to move west at 17:00 on the 17th.
At dusk that day, the headquarters of the Jin-Cha-Ji Field Army set off from its garrison, and had just walked about 5 or 6 kilometers away, when suddenly a messenger on horseback hurried over and delivered an latest enemy briefing sent by Nie Rongzhen, commander of the Jin-Cha-Ji Military Region. Yang Dezhi opened it and read: Old Jiang, who was in Beiping, saw that the war in Baobei was deadlocked, and had ordered Luo Lirong, commander of the 3rd Army stationed in Shijiazhuang, to lead the main force of the army to the north in an attempt to form a north-south attack posture with the enemy of Xu Shui who was reinforcing Xu Shui from the south.
After reading the enemy's briefing, Yang Dezhi jumped off his horse happily, opened the military map on the side of the road, opened his palm to measure the distance, and decided to change his determination and turn around and hit Luo Lirong. He explained to the cadres present that luo lirong could not be placed north of Baoding to fight again, because the distance between Baoding and Xushui was less than 30 kilometers, and there were a large number of enemy troops stationed in each. If the three enemy forces are combined into one, it is bound to be difficult to annihilate. If you put it south of Baoding, you can't put it too close, and if you are too close, the enemy of Baoding will surely come to the rescue quickly. Chief of Staff Geng Biao very much agreed with Yang Dezhi's view, and he crouched down on the map and drew a circle on the name of Qingfengdian: "I see, just fight here!" "All the generals present agreed.
However, at this moment, the Luo Li Rong Department is only more than 90 miles away from the Qingfengdian, and the main force of our army is still more than 200 miles away from the Qingfengdian. However, in Yang Dezhi's view, this extreme unfavorable factor is a favorable condition for surprise and attack. He immediately ordered Chen Zhengxiang, commander of the 2nd Column, and Li Zhimin, political commissar, to unify the command of the troops remaining in Baobei, pretend to be the main force, continue to besiege Xushui and block the enemy's aid from the north, and order the 8th Independent Brigade and the militia to follow the main force of Luo Lirong's troops and do everything possible to delay their march north. The main force of the Jin-Cha-Ji Field Army immediately turned around and marched south at a speed of 14 miles per hour, rushing to Qingfengdian day and night.
The main force of the Jin-Cha-Ji Field Army immediately advanced lightly, mobilized for battle while running forward, and arrived at the scheduled battlefield at dusk on the 18th. The main force of Luo Lirong's troops, under the control and harassment of our local troops, did not enter the Qingfengdian area until the afternoon of the 19th. When the enemy air force reported to Luo Lirong that a large number of our army units appeared around his unit, Luo Lirong did not believe it at all: "When I left Shijiazhuang, the enemy's main force was still far away in Baobei, how could it have come so quickly, did it have wings?" ”
Luo Lirong did not believe it, nor did Sun Lianzhong, and he urged Luo Lirong not to be confused by the small local armed forces of our army, but to be assured and bold to march northward, otherwise it would be difficult to make a difference to the commission. However, Luo Lirong, who was on the front line, obviously felt that the firepower of our army that was blocking the attack in person was obviously stronger than that of the previous few days, and he began to retreat at all. Therefore, although he was still suspicious, for the sake of safety, he quickly gathered his troops in more than 20 villages near Qingfengdian and stepped up the construction of a plum blossom-shaped fortification system.
Never give the enemy a chance to breathe! At dawn on the 20th, our army launched an attack on Qingfengdian, but the first day did not make much progress. On the 21st, Yang Dezhi summed up the lessons learned from the previous day, concentrated his forces to storm the outer stronghold of Southwest Hecun, where the main force of Luo Lirong's main force, the 7th Division, was located, and commanded the troops to divide the defending enemy into several small pieces. By dusk, most of the enemy had been annihilated, and a few remnants of the enemy had retreated in the three villages of Southwest, Southeast, and Gaojiazuo. During the battle, more than 10 enemy planes took turns to come to assist in the battle, and were fired by our military machine guns, shooting down and wounding 1 each, and capturing 6 pilots of Chiang Kai-shek's army.
At 3:40 a.m. on the 22nd, our army launched a general offensive against the remnants of the enemy. The commanders and fighters shouted out the battle slogan of "race against the clock, fight quickly and annihilate quickly, and lift the pressure on the reinforcements as soon as possible." At various points of the battlefield, the fighting was most fierce, especially near the Majia compound in southwest Hecun. This compound was the headquarters of Luo Lirong's army. The enemy placed all the cars around, forming a car defense line. With a fearless revolutionary spirit, the commanders and fighters of our army engaged the enemy's short soldiers and bravely killed the enemy. During the battle, instructor Li Desheng embraced a 10-kilogram explosive pack, rushed into a courtyard defended by the enemy, and detonated the ammunition depot of the defending enemy. All 7 houses in the courtyard collapsed in a cracking explosion. At 11:00, Luo Lirong himself was captured, and the main force of the 3rd Army he brought out of Shijiazhuang was destroyed.
The war at Qingfengdian is in full swing, and the fighting in the Baobei area is also extremely fierce. In order to rescue Luo Lirong, Sun Lianzhong personally flew to baobei to supervise the battle. The enemy troops in the north attacked our blocking positions with one unit, and took a car with one, ready to go straight to Qingfengdian through the breakthrough. The new 2nd Army in Baoding also dispatched a part of its troops north to Xushui in an attempt to receive reinforcements from Baobei to the south, and then the troops were united and a piece of the south was sent south to rescue Luo Lirong.
The reinforcements under the command of Chen Zhengxiang and Li Zhimin were not only far fewer than the enemy troops, but also in a state of being caught between the enemy's north and south, and could fall into the enemy's encirclement at any time. However, for the sake of the overall situation, the reinforcements fought hard against the enemy and shouted the battle slogan "We must survive until the 3rd Army is annihilated." A "staying up" shows the difficulty of the obstruction war in baobei and the determination of the commanders and fighters of our army to persevere and regard death as a homecoming.
In the end, our army laughed to the end and fought a beautiful annihilation battle.
