The historical Princess Jianning did marry Wu Sangui's eldest son, Wu Yingxiong. What is more special is that at that time, the Qing Dynasty implemented the Manchu-Han non-marriage system. Why would Princess Jianning marry Wu Yingxiong? There are three reasons for this.
1. The two are of the same age
Princess Jianning was the fourteenth daughter of Emperor Taiji of the Qing Dynasty, which means that Emperor Taiji had many daughters, so why marry her to Wu Yingxiong? Because the two of them are of the same age.
Princess Jianning was 13 years old when she married Wu Yingxiong and Wu Yingxiong was 20 years old. This was the age of these two men in feudal society. Choosing to go, Princess Jianning is the most suitable for marriage to Wu Yingxiong.
The marriage of the royal family is not able to make its own decisions, and the marriage between Princess Jianning and Wu Yingxiong is a political marriage, which is also the most in line with the requirements of the Qing Dynasty court.
2. Improve the status of Wu Sangui
The Qing Dynasty practiced Manchu-Han intermarriage, but why marry Princess Jianning to Wu Yingxiong? This requires special treatment in consideration of special circumstances.
Wu Yingxiong was the eldest son of Wu Sangui, and Wu Sangui was the main figure who led the Qing army into the customs, although the Qing Dynasty rewarded Wu Sangui for his merits and gave him an official and knighthood.
But after all, he was a Han Chinese, and Manchu had a lot of words for him. Wu Sangui was also very uncomfortable in his heart, he was a general, not only looked down upon, but also suspected. In order to reassure him and continue to serve the imperial court, the imperial court must improve Wu Sangui's status.
How can we improve his status? In addition to giving him high-ranking officials Houlu, it was also necessary to improve his class status. Then it can only be married to the royal family. Wu Sangui became the imperial relative of the Qing Dynasty, and the class increased accordingly.
Wu Sangui made a first-class contribution to the Qing Dynasty's entry into the Central Plains, and if he did not pay attention to him, or even unload and kill donkeys, then it would be difficult for the Qing Dynasty to gain a foothold in the Central Plains. Because there are still many Han Chinese who surrendered to the Qing Dynasty in the Ming Dynasty, watching the Qing Dynasty's moves.
If the Qing Dynasty did not reuse the Han, then the Han would also rebel. Therefore, in this case, the marriage between the Qing Dynasty royal family and Wu Sangui was also a last resort. Wu Sangui was also well aware of this, so he later reversed it.
3. Blackmail Wu Sangui
The Qing Dynasty married Princess Jianning to Wu Yingxiong, and there was another layer of meaning, that is, it wanted to hold Wu Sangui hostage and take Wu Yingxiong as a hostage. Wu Sangui's surrender to the Qing Dynasty was forced, everyone knows it, and the Qing Dynasty did not trust Wu Sangui very much.
Therefore, the Qing Dynasty imperial family wanted to use the way of marriage to clamp down on Wu Sangui and test Wu Sangui's actions. Wu Sangui was not stupid, and he certainly knew what this practice meant.
Therefore, Wu Sangui was also dissatisfied with the Qing Dynasty, and when Kangxi proposed to cut the domain, Wu Sangui did the opposite. Therefore, using the marriage situation to try to blackmail Wu Sangui has not had any effect. Wu Sangui's rebellion can actually be said to have been persecuted by the Qing Dynasty.
After Wu Sangui rebelled, the Qing Dynasty executed Wu Yingxiong, as well as Princess Jianning and Wu Yingxiong's son. This made the second half of Princess Jianning's life miserable.
Neither Wu Sangui nor the Qing imperial family considered the happy lives of Wu Yingxiong and Princess Jianning, but both sacrificed the happiness of others for their own purposes.
Wu Yingxiong did not want to rebel, but his father launched a rebellion for his own selfish purposes and destroyed Wu Yingxiong. The Qing dynasty royal family also ruined the life of Princess Jianning for their benefit.
If the Qing Dynasty and Wu Sangui had one side to think about for others, Princess Jianning's life would have been better, but unfortunately history could not be repeated, and The tragic life of Princess Jianning was inevitable.
Wu Sangui's rebellion also shows that he is a very selfish person, his son is in the hands of the Qing Dynasty royal family, so he cannot rebel, otherwise, Wu Yingxiong will undoubtedly die, which he must know, but he still reversed.
He thought that he would be able to defeat the Qing Dynasty by sacrificing Wu Yingxiong, which was impossible. Therefore, Wu Sangui's impulsive impulse not only harmed himself, but also harmed Wu Yingxiong, and also tired Princess Jianning.
So this incident also tells us: do not do things impulsively, before doing things, we must consider the consequences, consider whether it will involve others. If doing something is only to satisfy yourself, but it will hurt others, even family members, etc., then it is not worth doing.
The tragic end of Wu Sangui's family is the best wake-up call for our modern people.
