In the middle of the Ming Dynasty, the Ming Dynasty scholar Jiao Zhu commented in the "Records of the Tributes of the State Dynasty":

Ming Xingmeng took Yun Cong, who was known as Xiao Yong as Chang Kaiping, and fu Yingguo'er.

This means that when Zhu Yuanzhang established the Ming Dynasty, the famous generals under his command were like clouds, but the most courageous and good at war was Chang Yuchun, and after Chang Yuchun, Fu Youde ranked second.

This ranking is not based on merit, but in terms of the bravery of the generals. In Jiao's view, after the death of Hongwu Chang Yuchun in the third year, Fu Youde became the first fierce general of the Hongwu Dynasty.

In fact, this view is not boasting, because in the historical data, Fu Youde Ping Bashu, Dang Mo Bei, Zheng Yun Gui, no one is unfavorable. If Fu Youde had not defected to Zhu Yuanzhang too late, he would have sat on an equal footing with the "Six Founding Fathers" of the Ming Dynasty.

Fu Youde: Cast 4 emperors, establish 5 great miracles, the first fierce general in the late period of Zhu Yuanzhang, not suicide one, cast four emperors, Fang First met the Ming Lord II, first with Chang 100,000, and then with General Xu III, the Northern Expedition one riding the dust, the Western Expedition one horse first four, seven battles and seven consecutive victories, a handsome cover of a hundred ugly five, Taizu suspicious, good generals have nothing to do

After the death of Xu Da and other famous generals one after another, Zhu Yuanzhang also publicly stated: "On the merits of the generals, Fu Youde is the first!" Although at that time, Fu Youde did not have Feng Sheng, Tang He and the qualifications to be old, let alone blue jade young, but in Zhu Yuanzhang's heart, Fu Youde was the first person available in the later period.

However, the final fate of this first fierce general in the late Hongwu period was very miserable, and there were even rumors that Fu Youde personally cut off the heads of his two sons before he died, and then committed suicide in front of Zhu Yuanzhang. What happened to Fu Youde in history, and how did he die? In this article, the author will take you to understand the real Fu Youde through historical materials and analysis.

, vote for four emperors, and meet the Ming Lord

Fu Youde is a native of Zhongshan, Anhui Province, and has been farming for generations. The so-called hero of the times, if it were not for the chaos in the world, he might have been just a cropper facing the loess and facing the sky in this life.

In 1351, Han Shantong and Liu Futong led the Yellow River migrant workers to launch the Red Turban Army Uprising, and Han Shantong claimed to be the eighth grandson of Emperor Huizong of Song, declaring "anti-Yuan and restoration of the Song", with great momentum. The Yuan Dynasty dispatched heavy troops to suppress it, and eventually hanshan boy soldiers were defeated and killed. Han Lin'er, the son of Han Shantong, with the support of Liu Futong and others, went to Bozhou to claim the title of emperor, established the "Great Song", changed the yuan to "Dragon And Phoenix", and was known as The King of Xiaoming in history. Subsequently, Han Lin'er vigorously developed his power at the junction of Yu and Anhui, and it was at this time that Fu Youde was recruited into the Red Turban Army by Li Xixi, a general under Han Lin'er.

The following year, Guo Zixing revolted in Haozhou and announced that he would join the Red Turban Army and support Han Lin'er. Later, a wandering monk named Zhu Zhongba joined Guo Zixing's team, and when Guo Zixing saw that he was brave and courageous, he renamed him Zhu Yuanzhang and married his righteous daughter Ma Shi to him.

That is to say, at the beginning of the Red Turban Army uprising, Fu Youde and Zhu Yuanzhang were both members of the Northern Red Turban Army, both subordinate to Han Lin'er. To some extent, Fu Youde may have joined the Red Turban Army earlier than Zhu Yuanzhang. However, Fu Youde did not have zhu Yuanzhang's luck, he stayed under Han Lin'er for 6 years, and was never reused.

In 1358, Zhu Yuanzhang had already occupied Nanjing and became a tyrant. Han Lin'er was defeated in the north by the Yuan Dynasty's Chakhan Timur (Wang Baobao's righteous father) and had to move to Kaifeng, and Fu Youde's superior Li Xixi, while covering Han Lin'er's retreat, was defeated by the Yuan army and had to flee to Sichuan. Defecting to Ming Yuzhen, it was at this time that Fu Youde followed his superiors to Ming Yuzhen.

Note that although Ming Yuzhen also belonged to the Red Turban Army, he was the Southern Red Turban Army, led by Xu Shouhui, and the Northern Red Turban Army led by Han Lin'er were two different teams.

Fu Youde was not valued under Ming Yuzhen, and about a year later, he left Sichuan and came to Wuchang to join Chen Youyu. At that time, Chen Youyu was also under the leadership of Xu Shouhui. In 1360, Chen Youyi killed his old superior Xu Shouhui, established himself as emperor, and established "Chen Han", and Fu Youde was very disdainful of Chen Youyi's behavior of "killing the king". Therefore, in the Battle of Jiangzhou, he saw Zhu Yuanzhang's arrogance and arrogance, so he led his subordinates to surrender to Zhu Yuanzhang. In this regard, the "Ming Chronicle" records it in great detail:

(Taizu) drove through Xiao Lonely for a long time, and Youyu annexed The Troops led by Ding Pulang and Fu Youde. Youde, a native of Suzhou, migrated to the mountain and bravely won the crown for a while. At the beginning of the Invasion of Shu from Shandong Li Xixi, he was often the champion of the army and returned to Ming Yuzhen. Yuzhen could not be used, and led the troops to Wuchang from Chen Youyi, and suddenly did not show anything. Master Wen Ming attacked Jiangzhou and sighed, "This my lord is also!" "See it in the little lonely mountain.

This record explains Fu Youde's experience of following Han Lin'er, Ming Yuzhen, and Chen Youyu, and when he saw Zhu Yuanzhang, he shouted: "This is the master I should be loyal to!" Therefore, he defected to Zhu Yuanzhang.

After Chen Youyu killed Xu Shouhui, Ming Yuzhen disobeyed Chen Youyi and established himself as emperor in Shudi and established the "Ming Xia". Therefore, in the last years of the Yuan Dynasty, Fu Youde served the four emperors of Han Lin'er (Xiaoming Wang), Ming Yuzhen (Ming Xia Taizu), Chen Youyu (Chen Han Emperor), and Zhu Yuanzhang (Ming Taizu), and his experience was an adventure.

Although Fu Youde was the "elder" of the Red Turban Army, when Fu Youde defected to Zhu Yuanzhang, Zhu Yuanzhang had already won the Battle of Longwan. At this time, Zhu Yuanzhang had already fought with Chen Youyu and Zhang Shicheng, and the famous generals under Zhu Yuanzhang had basically "arrived", so when Fu Youde first came to Zhu Yuanzhang's command, he could only commit himself to the back of other famous generals.

However, Lu Yao knew the horsepower, and Fu Youde finally stood out in the environment of famous players like clouds and became a rare member.

second, follow Chang 100,000 first, and then follow General Xu

Under Zhu Yuanzhang, the first boss Fu Youde met was Chang Yuchun, "Chang Shiwan", because of his bravery in battle, Fu Youde had a temper with Chang Yuchun, so he was favored by Chang Yuchun.

In 1363, the Battle of Poyang Lake broke out, and Chang Yuchun and Fu Youde repeatedly drove light boats to attack Chen Youyu's large ships. Shi Zai "was wounded several times, and the battle was stronger", Fu Youde suffered many injuries, but the more courageous he fought. After Chen Youyi's death, his son Chen Li fled to Wuchang under the protection of Zhang Dingbian. Chang Yuchun took Fu Youde with orders to attack Wuchang, and the History of Ming records:

According to the Han soldiers, the generals will take care of each other. Hundreds of youde shuais, one drum to win. The cheek hole in the middle of the stream arrow is not depressed.

This means that Chen Li is stubbornly guarding Wuchang, and the arrows are raining down, and all the generals dare not come forward. Chang Yuchun called Fu Youde up, and Fu Youde took the lead and rushed up with hundreds of people. In the fierce battle, Fu Youde's face was shot by an arrow, and Fu Youde was not afraid, roared, and drew the arrow to fight again. Soon after, he was hit by another arrow, but Fu Youde still did not retreat. The crowd was horrified.

At that time, there was no shortage of fierce generals under Chang Yuchun, but in front of Fu Youde, they were dwarfed. After this battle, Zhu Yuanzhang promoted Fu Youde to the command of Xiongwu Wei.

Next, Fu Youde met another boss, this person was Xu Da, Xu Da and Chang Yuchun's fighting style was completely different, his military discipline was strict, he planned to move later, Fu Youde followed Xu Da to continuously pacify Luzhou, Yiling, Hengzhou, Xiangyang, and Anlu. After every battle with Xu Da, Fu Youde benefited a lot.

In the Battle of Anlu, Fu Youde saw that the enemy would flee, so he chased after the enemy on horseback, and the enemy general ran while fighting, Fu Youde added nine new wounds on his body, still pursuing him relentlessly, and finally captured the enemy general Ren Liang, Xu Da saw Fu Youde and was overjoyed.

In the early years of the Ming Dynasty, Xu Da and Chang Yuchun were called the "double walls" of Zhu Yuanzhang, and Fu Youde followed the two successively, not only deeply influenced by the two, but also recognized by the two.

In 1366, Zhu Yuanzhang sent Xu Da and Chang Yuchun to recruit Zhang Shicheng, and Xu Da named Fu Youde to follow. Fu Youde was the vanguard, and at Mamu Port, Fu Youde won a battle and captured nearly a thousand of Zhang Shicheng's warships, which sounded the death knell of Zhang Shicheng's demise, and from then on, Zhang Shicheng was defeated again and again until his demise. Fu Youde was appointed by Zhu Yuanzhang as the governor of Jianghuai Province because of the destruction of Wu Gongda.

Third, the Northern Expedition rode the dust, and the Western Expedition took the lead

In 1367, after Zhu Yuanzhang destroyed Zhang Shicheng, he immediately asked Xu Da and Chang Yuchun to lead 250,000 troops to the Northern Expedition to the Yuan Dynasty. Xu Da and Chang Yuchun divided into two roads and went north, and the vanguard officer of Xu Da's road was Fu Youde. Fu Youde swept the caves like a plough, broke YiZhou, lower Qingzhou, took Laiyang, attacked Dongchang, and was unstoppable. After conquering the Yuan capital, Xu Da ling waved the banner, and Fu Youde marched westward without stopping, all the way to Datong, Baoding, and Zhending, and Shouding Prefecture. After a short rest, he invaded Shanxi again and took Taiyuan.

At that time, the famous General Wang Baobao of the Yuan Dynasty defeated Tang He in Hebei, and Xu Da decided to "criticize and make a mistake", first luring Wang Baobao to march in a hurry, and then setting up an ambush halfway through. Ming Shi Yun:

Expand the silhouette from the security guards to help, ten thousand horses suddenly arrived. Youde rushed to it with fifty horses, because he attacked his camp at night. The Kuoku Warehouse pawn fled, chased to tumen pass, and obtained his shi ma wan.

Wang Baobao is also known as Tamerlane. When Wang Baobao entered the ambush circle with tens of thousands of soldiers and horses, the first person to rush into the enemy camp was Fu Youde, the key is that he only led 50 horses to kill it, which can be described as the courage of the artist. In this battle, Wang Baobao only wore one boot when he escaped, xu da captured tens of thousands of Mongol soldiers, and Fu Youde was the most powerful.

In the second year of Hongwu, Xu Da recruited Li Siqi, pacified Shaanxi, and went out of Tongguan, and in the Battle of Dingxi, Fu Youde, under the command of Xu Da, once again defeated Wang Baobao, this time Wang Baobao and his wife crossed the Yellow River with a piece of wood in their arms, only to escape Fu Youde's pursuit.

In the third year of Hongwu, Zhu Yuanzhang was awarded the title of Meritorious Servant, Xu Da, Chang Mao, Li Shanchang, Feng Sheng, Li Wenzhong, and Deng Yu were made Dukes, and Fu Youde was made the Marquis of Yingchuan for his merits, and was given an iron coupon to avoid death.

Zhu Yuanzhang rewarded meritorious men, and there was a law that the founding "Six Dukes" not only had outstanding merits, but also defected to Zhu Yuanzhang relatively early. This also means that even if Fu Youde's later merits are great, he is not made a duke because the "time from the dragon" is too late. Therefore, at that time, Fu Youde was made a marquis, which was already the "highest treatment". This can also be seen in Zhu Yuanzhang's recognition of Fu Youde.

In the fourth year of Hongwu, Zhu Yuanzhang ordered Tang He and Liao Yongzhong to march west to Bashu, and the object of the conquest was Ming Sheng, the son of Fu Youde's old lord Ming Yuzhen. Tang He took Liao Yongzhong all the way west, but unexpectedly, heavy rain poured down and the river surged. Mingsheng's army was fortified on the other side of the river, and Tang He was somewhat cowering. Zhu Yuanzhang hated Tang and did not argue, and ordered Fu Youde to enter Sichuan from the northern front and from the southwest of Shaanxi. Supposedly, Fu Youde's route of march was more difficult than Tang He's, but Fu Youde ordered the soldiers to throw away their luggage and take only 3 days of dry food all the way to the Yellow Dragon. In the end, he actually rushed to attack Chongqing in front of Tang He. If liao Yongzhong had not taken advantage of the situation to attack Kuizhou, Tang and this "general of the western expedition" would have lost face.

After the return of the large army, Zhu Yuanzhang praised Fu Youde. The Battle of Bashu was enough to prove that Fu Youde's ability and courage far exceeded that of Tang He and Liao Yongzhong, who were called "one Fu and two Liao" in Shuzhong at that time, and put Fu Youde's merits first.

four, seven battles and seven consecutive victories

In the fifth year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty, Zhu Yuanzhang had a hard time finding out the whereabouts of Yuan Zhaozong and decided to devote the strength of the whole country to the Northern Expedition. Zhu Yuanzhang appointed Xu Da as the general, Li Wenzhong as the left deputy general, and Feng Sheng as the right deputy general, and the troops were divided into three roads for the Northern Expedition. Xu Da's Chinese army, spearheaded by Blue Jade, marched north from Yanmen Pass; Li Wenzhong's Left Route Army, with He Wenhui as the vanguard, marched north from Jinlan, Gansu; and Feng Sheng's Right Route Army, spearheaded by Fu Youde, marched north from Juyongguan. According to Zhu Yuanzhang's presupposition, the three-way army directly attacked the grassland, and the Northern Yuan was overwhelmed and was bound to be defeated.

It's just that everyone has forgotten that There is also a military master in the Northern Yuan, that is, Wang Baobao. Wang Baobao had long been prepared to meet Zhu Yuanzhang's three-way army, and in the middle of the road, due to the light enemy of Blue Jade, he eventually lost tens of thousands of people. Li Wenzhong's army on the left side was also ambushed. Only feng sheng's army on the right side marched all the way. The reason was that the vanguard officer on the right was Fu Youde.

Fu Youde led 5,000 soldiers and horses as the vanguard, along the way encountered a small group of Mongol soldiers attacked, he turned a blind eye, quickly bypassed Wang Baobao's strategic deployment, and then Fu Youde faced the main force of the Mongol soldiers, seven battles and seven victories, the final result: the right road army "defeated the lieutenant Duo'er only Ba, and won more than 100,000 horses, cattle and sheep..." The "History of Ming" said:

The division is out of three ways, and the single friend virtue is completely victorious.

If it were not for Feng Sheng and Fu Youde on the right side, Zhu Yuanzhang's five-year Northern Expedition in Hongwu would have become a joke. Feng Sheng and Fu Youde helped Zhu Yuanzhang save face.

In the years that followed, almost every northern expedition of the Ming Dynasty involved Fu Youde. For example, in the sixth year of Hongwu, Fu Youde "went out of the Wild Goose Gate, became a forward, and won the Pingzhang Deng Polo Timur". In the ninth year of Hongwu, Fu Youde "captured Timur in Yan'an and surrendered him to the masses." In the fourteenth year of Hongwu, Fu Youde followed Xu Da's Northern Expedition, and he led his troops to raid the Ash Mountains, "gaining a lot of people".

In the fourteenth year of Hongwu, Fu Youde was appointed by Zhu Yuanzhang as the general of Zhengnan and led an army of 300,000 to conquer Yunnan. Fu Youde took Lan Yu and Mu Ying to pacify the whole territory of Yunnan for more than a year, and left Mu Ying to guard Yunnan, and from then on, Yunnan became an inseparable part of the Ming Dynasty.

Since the founding of the Ming Dynasty, Fu Youde has made many contributions, and in the seventeenth year of Hongwu, Zhu Yuanzhang once again discussed the reward of merit and deeds, named Fu Youde the Duke of Yingguo, and gave him another iron coupon to avoid death. Not only that, Zhu Yuanzhang also married his daughter to Fu Youde's son, and gave Fu Youde's daughter Xu to the eldest son of Zhu Tang, the King of Jin.

In that year, Li Wenzhong died of illness, and the following year, Xu Da died of illness, and Fu Youde's prestige in the Ming Dynasty army was very high. Zhu Yuanzhang looked around and saw that among the famous founding generals, the only person who could win the battle and had always won the battle was Fu Youde.

5. Taizu is suspicious and will have nothing to do

Throughout Fu Youde's life, he destroyed Chen Youyi, Zhang Shicheng, the Northern Expedition to the Yuan Dynasty, the Western Expedition to Bashu, and the Pacification of Yunnan, making 5 great achievements for the Ming Dynasty, however, his end was deplorable.

Zhu Yuanzhang had the notoriety of "indiscriminately killing heroes", but the incident that really prompted Zhu Yuanzhang to kill heroes indiscriminately was the death of Crown Prince Zhu Biao.

Twenty-five years after Hongwu, the crown prince Zhu Biao returned from an inspection in Shaanxi and fell ill and died. Zhu Biao's death disrupted all of Zhu Yuanzhang's plans. Zhu Yuanzhang had to make Zhu Yunjiao the emperor's grandson, but Zhu Yunjiao was too young, and he could not control some of the meritorious courtiers, so Zhu Yuanzhang decided to clear the obstacles for his grandson in order to "make the mountains and rivers forever solid". Lan Yu, Fu Youde, Feng Sheng, Wang Bi and other fierce generals fell one by one.

There are many theories about Fu Youde's death. The most extensive version comes from the Book of Shi Kui written by Zhang Dai at the end of the Ming Dynasty, and the Book of Stone Kui Yun:

Blue Jade Curse, Youde with merit and internal fear, Dingyuan Marquis Wang Bi said of Youde: "Spring and Autumn high, line and dan day and night to do my generation, my generation should be united vertical and horizontal." "When Taizu heard it, he would feast on the winter, and the followers would eat thoroughly, thoroughly and not completely. Taizu scolded Youde for being disrespectful, and said, "Summon the second son!" Youde came out, and the guards had the saying of Taizu: "Bring its head to it." When the second son of Yudetti entered, Taizu was shocked: "He Yu'er ninja also?" Yude took out his dagger sleeve and said, "But I want my father and son's head and ears." "So I killed myself.

This means that after Blue Jade was killed, Fu Youde often felt fear because of his great merit. Wang Bi, the Marquis of Dingyuan, secretly said to Fu Youde, "Your Majesty already has the intention of killing us, and we need to unite." Unexpectedly, this sentence reached Zhu Yuanzhang's ears, and Zhu Yuanzhang decided to find an opportunity to clean up Fu Youde. One day, Zhu Yuanzhang feasted on the courtiers and gave Fu Youde a dish, Fu Youde had a dish that was not finished, Zhu Yuanzhang reprimanded Fu Youde on the spot for being disrespectful, and asked Fu Youde to summon his son, Fu Youde, in a rage, went out and killed two sons, threw his son's head to Zhu Yuanzhang, and said to Zhu Yuanzhang: "Don't you want the heads of our father and son?" Then he took a dagger from his sleeve and committed suicide in front of Zhu Yuanzhang.

The Book of Stone Kui is a book of the late Ming Dynasty, and although the record of Fu Youde's death is detailed, the author has three doubts:

First, since Wang Bi and Fu Youde were going to unite against Zhu Yuanzhang, with Zhu Yuanzhang's temperament, why didn't he act immediately after hearing the news, and wait until the banquet to deal with Fu Youde.

Second, Zhu Yuanzhang feasted on the courtiers, the security work must be very strict, Fu Youde could not hide a dagger in his sleeve. If the dagger is really hidden, then Zhu Yuanzhang has completely "guilty" to clean up Fu Youde, why does the historical data dare not write?

Third, after Fu Youde walked out of the banquet, he came in with the heads of his two sons in a short time (wen said "is") and his two sons were waiting outside the banquet hall? Fu Youde's two sons, one of them is still a horse, fu Youde really said that killing can kill?

The author has always been unopposed to the use of wild history as evidence, but the record of the Book of Stone Kui is too bizarre, so the author has a negative attitude towards this record.

So, how exactly does the History of Ming record Fu Youde's death? The Biography of Ming Shi Fu Youde records:

Twenty-five years later, Youde asked Huai Yuantian to be a thousand acres. The emperor was displeased: "Lu zhi is not thin, why do you live in the interests of the people?" Er, don't you hear about the public ceremony? "Looking for the vice-song Guo Gongsheng branch Shanxi, Tuntian yu Datong, Dongsheng, li sixteen guards." It is winter to retrain the army in Shanxi and Henan. Next year, the call will be returned. And next year he will die.

This means that in the twenty-fifth year of Hongwu (the year before the Blue Jade Case broke out), Fu Youde made a request to Zhu Yuanzhang, asking Zhu Yuanzhang to give him thousands of acres of fertile land in Huaiyuan, Anhui. Zhu Yuanzhang believed that he had given Fu Youde enough rewards, and Fu Youde should not be insatiable and then go and occupy the people's land. After that, Fu Youde was successively transferred to Shanxi, Henan and other places to train troops, and in the twenty-seventh year of Hongwu, Zhu Yuanzhang suddenly summoned Fu Youde back to Beijing and put Fu Youde to death.

There is no reason for Fu Youde's death, the only clue is that Fu Youde wants to huaiyuan's thousand acres of fertile land, which may have caused Zhu Yuanzhang's dissatisfaction.

The author found another record in the "Ming Shi Taizu Benji":

In the winter of November, Fu Youde, the Duke of Yingguo, sat down to blame.

Although this passage is short, it can illustrate two problems: first, Fu Youde did not commit suicide, but was killed by Zhu Yuanzhang; second, Fu Youde was killed because of an offense (sitting).

What exactly did Fu Youde do? Zhao Yi of the Qing Dynasty recorded this in the Twenty-Second Chronicle:

The dead who sat on the Blue Party: Fu Youde, Cao Zhen, Zhang Yi, Zhu Shou, He Rong, Zhan Hui...

Zhao Yi obviously believes that Fu Youde's so-called "sitting matter" refers to being implicated in the Blue Jade case.

I think this view is highly probable. Fu Youde's death and the outbreak of the Blue Jade Case were very close, Fu Youde and Blue Jade met in the early years under Chang Yuchun, and later in the Northern Expedition to Mongolia, the conquest of Yunnan and other wars, Fu Youde and Blue Jade were comrades-in-arms and had a very close relationship. In addition, Blue Jade's comrades-in-arms Wang Bi of Dingyuan and Zhang Wen, Marquis of Huining, and others were all linked because of the "Sitting Blue Jade Party", which is clearly recorded in the "History of Ming". Therefore, Fu Youde is most likely implicated in the Blue Jade case.

In summary, regarding the cause of Fu Youde's death, the author has such a train of thought: after Zhu Biao's death, Fu Youde was highly skilled and had long been jealous of Zhu Yuanzhang. Later, Fu Youde wanted a thousand acres of land far away, which caused Zhu Yuanzhang's dissatisfaction, but Zhu Yuanzhang had no excuse to cure Fu Youde's crimes. The following year, the Blue Jade case broke out, because Fu Youde and Blue Jade were closely related, so they were implicated in the Blue Jade case and were killed by Zhu Yuanzhang.

After Fu Youde was killed, all the men in the family died, and only one grandson (because he was Zhu Yuanzhang's grandson) was pardoned. Although the Fu clan did not have an empress, it never appeared in the court again in the Ming Dynasty.

Fu Youde, as the most courageous general in the late Hongwu period, his death, although somewhat unclear, can basically be determined to have an element of "grievance".

"The golden cup is the same as the ru drink, and the white blade is not spared."

These 10 words were said by Zhu Yuanzhang to the then Hubu Shangshu Ru Taisu in the eighteenth year of Hongwu, which means, I will give you fine wine and food today, but if you commit a crime, I will still kill you.
