"Xiao Qing, why don't you two go?"
These two lines of dialogue are from Li Bihua's novel "Green Snake", the first sentence is Xu Xian's promise to Bai Suzhen at the beginning of his love with her, and the latter sentence is his temptation when he tries to elope with Xiao Qing.
In this new novel written by Li Bihua based on the "Legend of the White Snake", Xu Xian has faded the aura of all folklore and become a downright secular villain, who is selfish, cowardly, hypocritical, and unfaithful... Almost all the weaknesses of human nature are gathered in the body.
This subversive creation is disillusionmentuous to many readers, but I am very fond of this novel, because the meaning of "Green Snake" is not to gild the thousand-year-old love story of the exhibition, but to pull readers back from distant legends to the earth, to spy on the most real human desires in reality.
<h1 class="pgc-h-arrow-right" > about the combination of Xu Xian and Bai Suzhen</h1>
In the novel "Green Snake", Xu Xian is not a positive image, he is just a shrewd, selfish, cowardly secular man, but Bai Suzhen, who has moved his heart, has picked him at a glance among all sentient beings.
Li Bihua said: "The eyes are love seedlings, and the heart is the desire to plant." As early as that stormy night, when Bai Suzhen first saw this poor student with clear eyebrows and simple persistence under the lamp, she fell in love, and she decided to make a promise to herself.
Bai Suzhen had believed from the first glance that she was related to Xu Xian, but Xiao Qing's words inadvertently punctured the truth: "Isn't it hue?" He's not handsome, would you like to? Su Zhen was speechless.
Unexpectedly, Xu Xian completely fell under the lure of the white snake. Xu Xianben is a mortal who is the most ordinary in the world, his parents have died since childhood, he sent people to the fence, and his personality is soft and sticky. Before meeting Bai Suzhen, he was just a scribbled student, humble and stupid, running into walls in the lower society. After meeting Bai Suzhen, Xu Xian suddenly embarked on the peak of his life, and his love and career were both harvested.
A person who has nothing has everything at once, xu Xian understands that all this is given by Su Zhen, so he offers his only tenderness and thoughtfulness in return. But gradually, when everyone only knew that the White Lady was hanging on to the pot and only said that Xu Xian was a soft rice eater, he began to change.
Once, in order to live with him, Bai Suzhen was willing to enter the world, manage her career, and become her virtuous wife, but in the blink of an eye, Xu Xian asked her to give up her career and devote herself to three meals and four seasons of clothing. Xiao Qing couldn't understand that her sister had been cultivating for a thousand years just to endure this kind of boredom and loneliness in the human world? She asked her sister, "What's so good about men?" But Bai Suzhen told her: "That is the joy of teaching people to be weak and incompetent, and all thoughts are gray..."
Qing Snake did not know what the world was, in order to experience the happiness that her sister said, she began to imitate her sister and do what her sister did to Xu Xian. Xu Xian, those who come do not refuse.
In this way, the white snake and the green snake successively lured Xu Xian with hue, and they each thought that Xu Xian had fallen into his love network, but they did not know that among the three people, Xu Xian was the most shrewd one.
On the one hand, he covets the material satisfaction and mental stability brought by Suzhen, on the other hand, he also indulges in the emotional stimulation and fresh experience given to him by Xiaoqing. He knew that the sisters were demons, but he still loved one after another, and the benefits of the sisters had far outweighed his fears. Therefore, Fahai made him a monk, but Xu Xian refused.
Li Bihua used the perspective of the green snake to tell the greedy and ugly side of real human nature under the appearance of love. Beneath the seemingly wonderful love of human beings, there is actually too much pain about deception and betrayal.

At the beginning of the novel "Green Snake", Fahai and Xiaoqing are two people who have no love desire, but the former is because of restraint and the latter is because of ignorance.
In the traditional "Legend of the White Snake", Fahai has always been an old monk who is determined to slay demons and exorcise demons and perform for the Heavenly Path. But in Li Bihua's pen, Fahai is a young figure in his thirties:
He was not very old, but his eyes were cold, his essence was impressive, and he was not angry and threatening. There are looming vajra beads between the eyebrows, and the forehead beads are half skinless, and there is transcendent Buddha-nature.
The young Fahai had always taken it as his duty to represent the Heavenly Path, and there was no love or compassion in his heart, only order and contempt, and he could not understand the love between the White Snake and Xu Xian at all. But until that day, when he and the green snake were fighting in the forest, and they were actually lustful because of the green snake's teasing, Fahai suddenly found that the things he had been fighting against and despised had appeared on him.
Fahai roared in almost horror: "This demon must be subdued", in fact, from that moment on, the "Buddha-nature" in Fahai's body has gradually been infected by "human nature". Therefore, at the end of the novel, after Fahai suppressed the white snake that gave birth to the child under the Leifeng Pagoda, he was unable to do anything to the green snake.
With a bang, the bowl was thrown down. He was rapid, proud, silent... Escape, turn away.
In the end, out of selfishness and cowardice, Fahai still let Xiao Qing go, because he was emotional, and at this time, Fahai was completely dominated by "human nature". This was the disillusionment that Fahai faced, and he found himself, like Xu Xian, who was as selfish, cowardly, and contemptible in human nature, and the belief that he had once been "blind to the heavens and for the Heavenly Path" suddenly became a joke.
At the end of the novel, Fahai completes the transformation from "Buddha-nature" to "human nature", and Xiaoqing also undergoes the degeneration from "demon nature" to "human nature". At the beginning of Xiaoqing's follow-up to Su Zhen's journey through the red dust, she was originally ruthless, she said to her sister: "You are going for love, and I am afraid of loneliness." ”
Whether it was to tease Xu Xian or seduce Fahai, it was not so much that Xiao Qing was emotional, but rather that she was out of reluctance and curiosity. Throughout the novel, the appearance of Xu Xian and Fahai accelerates Xiaoqing's understanding of "worldly feelings", but it is her sister Suzhen who really moves her human feelings.
Xiao Qing once asked Bai Suzhen: "Sister, your love for Xu Xian is love, so is our five-hundred-year relationship love?" ”
Su Zhen did not answer her, but Xiao Qing's own answer had always been very clear. If it wasn't love, why would she be willing to be lonely, and let her sister and Xu Xian eventually become dependents? If it wasn't love, how could she not rejoice that Xu Xian had eloped with her, and only felt sorry for her sister? If it wasn't love, why would she have to restrain her feelings and force Xu Xian to swear a new oath?
In the film version of the "Green Snake" ending, Bai Suzhen, who had just given birth, was exhausted and instructed Xiao Qing to find Xu Xian. At that time, Xu Xian had already received the shaving, and the five tones were sealed, but Xiao Qing still recognized his back at a glance and shed tears for the first time. And this tear is not worth it for my sister.
At the climax of the film, Xiao Qing takes Xu Xian and shouts painfully in the water: "I helped you find Xu Xian, sister, you come back, don't you ask me to help you find Xu Xian?" But as Xiao Qing watched her sister disappear little by little on the surface of the water, she turned around and only said to Xu Xian, "You should be with your sister", and then stabbed his chest with a sword.
<h1 class= "pgc-h-arrow-right" > the ending of the film is the greatest compassion, and the ending of the book is the real life</h1>
Readers who have read the original work are well aware that Li Bihua adapted the ending of the novel in film and television works. In the film, Bai Suzhen sacrifices to protect the newborn child, and Fahai finally has an epiphany about the Dharma and understands what compassion is because of the two snakes of Qing and Bai. Such an adaptation exacerbates the tragic color of the story as a whole, but invisibly gives people hope, because the sacrifice of the white snake has been sublimated to some extent, and the epiphany of Xiaoqing and Fahai also makes people see a hidden hope.
But in the original novel, Bai Suzhen did not have such a tragic ending. After the white snake gave birth, Fahai immediately subdued it and suppressed it under the Leifeng Pagoda, and Bai Suzhen warned Xiaoqing at the last moment:
"Xiao Qing, I came to the world in vain, I achieved nothing, half a life mistake I was obsessed, you should never repeat the same mistakes and remember!"
Xiao Qing killed Xu Xian with infinite sadness, and Fahai spared Xiao Qing because of his cowardice, trapped by the demons of his heart, and fled into the wilderness. In fact, up to this point, except for the dead Xu Xian, no one was truly liberated, and no one had attained enlightenment.
As the wheels of history rolled away, dynasties changed, things changed for stars, and the white snake was released from the Leifeng Pagoda eight hundred years later and returned to the earth, she took the waist of the water snake and walked towards her crush again.
Xiao Qing advised her not to repeat the same mistakes, but the white snake had long forgotten the "lesson" of eight hundred years ago, and she just told Xiao Qing: "Life is too long, there is nothing to do, is it necessary to sit still?" ”
Li Bihua and Xu Ke did not make such an ending into the movie in the end, which is undoubtedly the greatest compassion for the audience. How many men and women love in the world, in fact, are caused by loneliness and hue, and this indestructible emotional desire in human nature is called love by the world, which is used to dissolve the loneliness and boredom of the essence of life.
In the final analysis, the love that the world pursues, which can be lived for and died for, is not the pursuit of the happiness that teaches people to be weak and incompetent, and all thoughts are gray in the mouth of the white snake? Moreover, this pursuit cannot be quit.
