Yu Pingbo (1900-1990), formerly known as Yu Mingheng, was a Chinese poet. Essayist, red scholar, poet at the beginning of the New Literary Movement, one of the pioneers of Chinese vernacular poetry creation. Great-grandson of Qing Dynasty Master Yu Fan. He has taught at Yenching University, Peking University, and Tsinghua University. Reading plays an important role in expanding knowledge, encapsulating disposition, and practicing morality, and also plays an indispensable and main role in the inheritance and development of Chinese national culture.

The ancients said, "Read thousands of books and travel thousands of miles." This is not only related, but only two views of the same thing. Travelers, books of activity. Reading is known as lying down, the mountains and rivers are like palms, and the ancient and modern are like opposites, which is a tour in a broad sense. Now, due to the convenience of transportation, walking tens of thousands of miles is not a big deal, and reading thousands of books is rarer. When there are various reasons, the most obvious view is that the motivation to read the environment is lacking in air.

When it comes to the true meaning of reading, in addition to expanding knowledge, it can also contain temperament and practice morality, which is not only a stepping stone for fame and fortune. That is, for the sake of fame and wealth, according to the current situation, it seems that there is no need to read books, let alone borrow the wisdom of the Bible, and even the more you read, the poorer you will become, which is no wonder that people like to read, and the number of people who know how to read is decreasing day by day. The reading air is thin, and the seeds of reading are scarce, which is a causal cycle of mutual cause and effect.

Now there are some people who think it is ridiculous when you say that your physical and mental life is broad, that karma is absurd to him, and that you think it is boring when you say that you are windy and snowy. Yes, it's pedantic, ridiculous, boring. You ask him, what is not pedantic, not absurd, not boring? He's going to have all sorts of beautiful things to say. But you must not trust him too much, he just wants money. The text is good. There is a story that is not necessarily reliable, but only a joke. The Qianlong Emperor descended to jiangnan, ascended the Jinshan Temple, saw more or less boats of all sizes in the river, and teased Ji Xiaocheng of Suiluan, there were several of them. This was originally a difficult problem, to make a naughty laugh, if you answer that you don't know, it will inevitably kill the scenery. Ji replied well, and the subject only saw two boats, one for the name and one for profit. At that time, the satire of the story had become apparent, but now it seems to be quaint. Yi Cun was loyal and should answer the emperor, there was only one boat.

The heart of good profit overrides everything, not overnight. The ancients said, "Do not benefit from profit, but benefit from righteousness." Righteousness for profit is a distant old saying. Take a step back and take the name as a benefit. However, fame and fortune are both reaped, and although the words are good, the benefits will not be great. Only those who do not sympathize with fame, take profit for profit, and are specialized and thick. The concept of moral reputation is mostly derived from books, and there is a correlation between fame and bad reading.

It is not difficult to seek the pleasure of reading in this air of good taste, unless we mix the two. If we can establish a system, so that the way for the world's handsome people to seek official positions and benefit from Lu must be through reading, almost like the method of the previous examination, or there are still people who are willing to work hard for ten years, strictly speaking, this has lost the true meaning of reading, not to mention that the establishment of this system is still far away.

Now there is a situation, in the past ten years, to put it a little farther, for twenty or thirty years, that is, the degree of chinese language has been significantly low, the typo is widely popular, teaching in schools at all levels, everyone knows, everyone frowns and headaches, and thinks that it is not easy to do. This serious situation not only symbolizes the collapse of the reading class, but also directly or indirectly affects the future of the nation and the growth of the country.

Writing education doesn't seem to be anything. The original text is just a black road drawn on white paper, a kind of trace, but the culture is pinned on this trace. We often boast that Shenzhou has been founded for thousands of years, and Huaxia has been sealed for tens of thousands of miles, and this kind of superiority in time and space does not have to be due to talent, but it is half man-made, it is all caused by the hard work of the ancestors for a long time, how we should rejoice and be ashamed, but we must not have no fear, the integrity of the square characters, the difficulty, and the fixation, although it seems to hinder the popularization of cultural knowledge, it is also invisibly safeguarding the unity and permanence of the country. From the perspective of time, when we read ancient books such as "On Meng", we feel that Confucius Mencius does not seem to be too far away, and the poetry of Su Dongpo of du gongbu, the two of them are like our old predecessors, which is the power of the square text that is not easy to change. If we had used phonetic alphabets entirely, then there is no need to mention the Zhou and Qin dynasties, that is, the Tang and Song Dynasties, which would be very far away and separated, and it would be more difficult for us to understand the feelings of the ancestors, and the Chinese national origin would be shaken and uneasy. From the perspective of space, although the north from Manchuria and the south to the Linghai, although divided into three parts, north and south, there are more subdivisions, but China is always only one, for example, Cantonese and Beijing dialect are completely different, and the words on paper are completely consistent. Those who have repeatedly invaded or been temporarily conquered by foreign countries, but who have always stood firm in the midst of the storms and turmoil, have already expressed the achievements of the blood and sweat of the ancestors, and in the unity of the nation, the words have indeed helped a lot. Historical facts are present and are not easy to deny.

Therefore, the failure of literacy education is only a sparse number of reading seeds on the surface, and the standard of general Chinese language is low, and in the bones it has damaged the future of the nation-state. The abandonment of books without reading can be described as an epidemic today. Aren't there people who work hard? Even the eagerness of a few people to learn is not enough to save this decadence. That is to say, in terms of school education, every time there is more time to listen to lectures than self-study, and self-study coursework, as Tai Shi Gong said, how many people can be eager to learn and think deeply and know their intentions? I don't dare to weigh the people of the world lightly, arbitrarily or not much. How to make people feel at ease to learn and be interested in reading seems to be a small matter, but it is a problem of social livelihood, such as reading a book hungry, of course, it is not possible, and there is more about the reform of various systems for educational examinations. Our solid responsibility to engage in education and writing is unshirkable, but it is not only a matter of personal efforts, but also a major cause of national rejuvenation and national fortune.
