On the evening of October 9, the 17th Chinese Drama Festival officially opened in Wuhan. Neijiang playwright Wei Minglun and drama performance artist Jiao Huang were awarded the honorary title of Lifetime Achievement Dramatist of the China Federation of Literary and Performing Arts.
Chen Yan, secretary of the sub-party group of the China Dramatists Association and vice chairman of the association, said at the opening ceremony that the brilliant life and lofty pursuit of the previous generations of artists who are both virtuous and artistic, and "drama is bigger than the sky", will become the spiritual nourishment for generations of theater workers to pass on the torch.
The China Drama Festival is a national theatrical performance event founded in 1988 and held every two years. The festival will run until 28 October.

Wei Minglun, a native of Neijiang, Sichuan, served as a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, vice chairman of the Chinese Dramatists Association, president of the Chinese Dramatic Literature Society, vice chairman of the Sichuan Provincial Federation of Literary and Art Circles, and vice chairman of the Sichuan Writers Association. His representative works include "Yi Bold", "Four Girls", "Pan Jinlian", "Chinese Princess Durandot", "Changing Face", "Bashan Xiucai", his works have won the highest awards in the Chinese theater industry for many times, and the words and poems created have written a new chapter in China's drama and literary creation in the new period.
On October 10, 2019, the Wei Minglun Inscription Museum was officially opened in Neijiang. At the opening ceremony, Mr. Wei Minglun donated a total of 276 pieces (sets) of his meticulously created manuscripts over the years, as well as his collection of famous calligraphy and painting works, various albums and books, honorary certificates, medals and other physical objects to the Neijiang Municipal People's Government free of charge.
He once composed "Dazhou Square Fu" and Longchang "Archway Fu" for his hometown. Talking about the establishment of the Inscription Museum by Neijiang, Wei Minglun expressed his excitement by "touching, grateful, and grateful". He said, I grew up in Neijiang and was an authentic Neijiang son. Neijiang is my cradle, the place where I took off from literature and art, and it was the support and cultivation of my hometown that made Wei Minglun today. The opening of the Wei Minglun Inscription Museum marks the rebirth of a new Wei Minglun. "Neijiang will always be my mother, I am Neijiang's eternal son, and I am back!"
Drama, essays, and rhetoric are not easy to do well in one of these areas. There is one person who can achieve "three-legged standing", as a playwright, essayist, and lyricist, he is Wei Minglun, who has the reputation of "Bashu Ghost Talent".
"On stage, there are many benchmark works in his plays, and his position in the theater industry is still unshakable. His collection of essays "Bashan Ghost Talk", "Gaishi Golden Bull Fu", "Hotel Ming", "Synagogue Fu", "Mill Plate Fu", "Yueyang Lou New Scenic Area"... Both have caused strong repercussions in the field of essays and lexicographs.
It is particularly worth mentioning that Wei Minglun has a very low education, cannot get a primary school diploma, and has not attended any refresher courses. In 1941, he was born in Guihu Street, Neijiang. Out of school in childhood, he followed his father to learn drama, and at the age of 9, he took the stage to sing the protagonist, and the "nine-year-old child" sang the Neijiang Zigong area. Before the milk smells dry, he feeds himself and earns money to support his family.
Wei Minglun first sang "chartered", singing one is counted as one. After singing for a month, the income is double that of the main actors of the local theater troupe.
Wei Minglun recalled that when he was in Neijiang, he had many fans of the play. At the entrance of the Neijiang Huasheng Grand Theater, there was a beef seller, and when the knife cut the beef, the buyer chatted with him: "Did you watch the play last night, did you see the nine-year-old child?" This kid is so good. "Yes, yes, yes!" As soon as he talked, he forgot that he was cutting beef, the more he cut it, and when he finished looking at it, he said, "Everything is cut, forget it, send you to you, we both love to watch the doll sing!" ”
What is amazing is that Wei Minglun only read for three years in elementary school, and arithmetic only reads addition and subtraction, and he has not even learned multiplication and division, and he cannot recite Xiaojiujiu. But he never gave up the love of literature that he had cultivated since he was a child, and he always taught himself and read books when he saw them. Big bookstores, small book stalls, libraries, reading rooms... In the eyes is a book, in the hand is a book.
Wei Minglun began to study amateur work in the 1950s and became a full-time screenwriter for the troupe in the early 1960s. His first play on stage was 1954's Lotus Lake. After the reform and opening up, he was like a fish in the water, creative enthusiasm, creative achievements, showing a state of blowout. Among them, "Yi Bold" and "Four Girls" both won the 1981 National Excellent Script Award, and "Bashan Xiucai" won the 1983 National Excellent Script Award, "Lianzhong Sanyuan", which is rare in the drama world.
Wei Minglun's "Changing Face", because of its strong literary nature, was included in the Renjiao edition of the middle school Chinese textbook. Sixteen years of national circulation, the total number of publications is as high as 30 million! Each middle school student has 30 million readers.
At the end of 1985, Wei Minglun launched the "absurd Sichuan opera" "Pan Jinlian", re-examined Pan Jinlian, who bore the "infamy of eternity", and for the first time concentrated a large number of ancient and modern Chinese and foreign characters in one. Not only does the content subvert tradition, but the art form also subverts tradition. Xinhua News Agency's "Lookout" reported: "The absurd Sichuan opera Pan Jinlian caused a sensation in China." Xinhua Digest reprints the script in its entirety. China Women's Daily also opened a column to discuss the drama, which lasted for several months, involving Chinese women's marriage, family, ethics, morality, and the legal system. At that time, "Pan Jinlian" was not only a debate about a play, nor was it just a literary and artistic phenomenon, but also a social phenomenon and a hot topic in society that society was concerned about.
In 2002, after Wei Minglun created "Good Woman, Bad Woman", he did not write new plays, but "gorgeous turned" and went to another field of literature to lead the excavation.
Wei Minglun has made great achievements in drama, essays, and rhetoric, and his essays inherit the "Lu Xun style", and some people have lamented, "Wei Minglun is the first in drama, or the first in essays", which shows its high level.
Wei Minglun once said that his creation of piao wen and lexicography was actually promoted by the painter Han Meilin. In 1995, Han Meilin molded a bronze sculpture of a giant bull in Shenzhen, asked Wei Minglun to name the inscription, and he was invited to write the inscription "Gestapo Golden Bull Endowment". Since then, at the invitation of various localities, he has written more than 60 inscriptions in the body of the stove, such as "Hotel Inscription", "Hall Endowment", "Huaxia Cemetery", "Hua Lantern Yong", "Yueyang Lou New Scenic Area", "Stove King Monument", "Corridor Bridge Endowment", "Millstone Endowment", etc., engraved into a stele, and finally built the Wei Minglun Inscription Museum in Neijiang.
This year, Mr. Wei Minglun coincided with his 80th birthday, but his thinking was still very clear. Many people are looking forward to seeing his new work. He has planned to publish the Wei Minglun Couplet, about 200 pairs.
