In August 1925, Liao Zhongkai, the leader of the Kuomintang left wing, was assassinated. After the incident, there was an uproar within the kuomintang top level.

According to Hu Hanmin's daughter Hu Mulan, she recalled:

Liao Zhongkai came to the Hu family a week before his assassination, and he said to Hu Hanmin: "Many people outside think that I am a certain element.

Hu replied: "Your work in the United Russia is the order of the prime minister and the decision of the party and sent to you to carry it out, not with your selfish will. Although there are misunderstandings in the outside world, I absolutely believe that you are not a certain element and will not be bribed by so-and-so. ”

The night before the assassination, Liao came again, but because Hu Hanmin was not at home, he was disappointed, and Liao said that there was an urgent matter to tell him the next day. But the next morning, Liao Zhongkai was stabbed to death.

Liao Zhongkai

Hu Mulan's memories seem to have the meaning of excusing his father. As an important figure involved in this case, Hu Hanmin defended himself in the sequel to his autobiography:

At that time, after the Central Party Department called liao Zhongkai and said that after Liao Zhongkai was assassinated, Hu Hanmin first found Wu Tiecheng and Chen Jitang to go to the hospital to see Liao Zhongkai (who was dead), and then Hu went to find Xu Chongzhi, and met Wang Jingwei who was also here.

Wang Jingwei proposed to bring Borodin in, and then Borodin proposed the establishment of a special committee, with Wang Jingwei, Xu Chongzhi, and Chiang Kai-shek as special members, to control the functions and powers of the party departments, political conferences, and organs of the National Government.

This committee has all the great powers of the party, government, and army, and Wang and Xu have pushed Borodin as their top adviser. The Special Committee has set up an Inspection Commission to investigate the Liao case.

The next day, Hu Hanmin found Wang Jingwei and asked Liao about the case, but Wang did not answer.

On the third day, Hu Hanmin went to Wang Jingwei again to ask about the progress of Liao's case, but Wang still did not answer.

Hu Hanmin then told Wang Jingwei his views on Liao Zhongkai's assassination:

The first is that the warlords are making trouble, the second is that the comrades are anti-so, and the third is that they are suspicious of each other.

Press: These three points are posthumously described by Hu Han, of which the last two points are not very convincing due to the influence of changes in the times, but the first point is worth noting and thinking about.

Wang Jingwei still did not answer this. Hu Hanmin, seeing that Wang's face was not good, went to Chiang Kai-shek again and repeated the above point, and Chiang believed that the first point was particularly true, and that the opposite side of the army needed special attention.

Afterwards, Hu Hanmin believed that he was only expelled after that and did not worry about his life, and this remark was probably a big key.

Judging from the course of events, it seems that there is no direct evidence to prove that Hu Hanmin was involved in the case, and the practice of Wang Jingwei and others was actually to use the "Liao case" to "invite" Hu out of Guangdong.

This kind of confrontation with the opposition and competitors, such as Lin Sen, Zou Lu and others, who were later sent to Beijing in the name of participating in the national diplomatic delegation, can also be said to be the same. At that time, Zou Lu was also considered one of the right-hand men of the Hu faction.

Wang Jingwei

So, after the "Liao case", was Hu Hanmin, who was in a high position and regarded as one of Sun Yat-sen's heirs, suspicious? Its exclusion from the "Liao case" three-member special committee should be said to be an obvious signal.

Afterwards, his cousin Hu Yisheng was quickly targeted as an important target for attacking and insulting Liao Zhongkai at Wenhuatang, and it was not surprising that Hu Hanmin was implicated and even suspected of killing Liao's main emissary.

For example, Chen Bijun, the wife of Wang Jingwei, said: "The whole city is in an uproar, and whoever kills Liao Jun will be Hu Hanmin." ”

Hu Hanmin categorically denied all kinds of suspicions after the "Liao case," saying that he "had no knowledge of this case" and that he had "put me to death with the three words 'unnecessary'."

During Hu's detention in Huangpu, Dai Jitao once said that Hu Hanmin was a peaceful person, and even if his cousin Hu Yisheng was indeed suspected of the "Liao case," it was not appropriate to "compare" the two brothers.

In this regard, Wang Jingwei also said at the regular meeting of the Kuomintang Central Committee on September 15:

"Although Hu Yisheng and Comrade Hanmin are brothers, but Hu Yisheng's murder of Comrade Liao Zhongkai this time, Comrade Hanmin did not know in advance, how can he take responsibility for it?"

In the middle is Hu Hanmin

Having said that, Wang Jingwei's determination to use the "Liao case" to drive Hu Hanmin out of the ocean has not changed.

When Hu Hanmin went to China, Wang made the following remarks to reporters:

The reporter asked: "Comrade Jun and Comrade Hanmin have died and lived together in the same tribulation for more than twenty years. ”

Wang said, "Did Jun ever read Mencius?" 'Tao should ask, Shun is the Son of Heaven, Gao Tao is a soldier, and Blind Eyes kills people, so what? Mencius: Just stick to it. 'Blind and blind, let alone the elephant?'

My generation is a nerd, that is, I have not heard of the revolutionaries of the modern world who act in accordance with their own righteousness, so why not read Mencius. If you have something to worry about because of this, how can you see the prime minister when you die? ”

This passage is still shallow, so it will not be explained much, and the reader can analyze it for himself.
