author:Bright Net

Mao Yisheng, the father of modern Chinese bridges, was invited to build a bridge on the Qiantang River in 1933. In 1937, the Qiantang River Bridge was opened to traffic, which was the first double-decker railway and highway bridge designed and built by china. Soon after the opening of the traffic, Mao Yisheng received an order: blow up the bridge and not let the Japanese army occupy it! After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, he overcame many difficulties to repair the Qiantang River Bridge. From 1955 to 1957, he was tasked with building China's first bridge across the Yangtze River, the Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge. On September 25, 1957, the bridge was completed, two years earlier than originally planned.
