Animal Trivia: The hairy-crowned deer (scientific name: Elaphodus cephalophus), also known as the green deer and the black deer, is a small deer. The national "three haves" protect animals. Hairy-crested deer are herbivores and feed mostly on seed plants as well as ferns and umbrella fungi. Its natural habitats are evergreen broad-leaved forests, mixed coniferous and broad-leaved forests, shrublands, logging sites and river valley shrublands in alpine or hilly areas. It is often active in the mountains between 1000 and 4000 meters above sea level. The crested deer is listed on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species ver3.1 – Vulnerable (VU) in 2015, and is also included in the "List of Beneficial or Economically Important Terrestrial Wild Animals Protected by the State"
