Open up new battlefields! Vietnamese catfish are popular in the Asian market

author:China Aquatic Channel

According to Intrafish reported on August 16: Vietnamese catfish producers and exporters are facing two major export destinations - the United States and Europe double trade barriers, the high anti-dumping tariffs in the United States and the continuous negative reports in Europe, as well as the removal of Vietnamese catfish sold in retail stores, Vietnamese catfish producers and exporters are more optimistic about the Asian market, especially China, which has surpassed Japan's purchasing power.

In recent years, the demand for Vietnamese catfish in the European market has decreased at a rate of 10% per year, the decision of Carrefour supermarkets to stop selling Vietnamese catfish, and the negative reports on catfish in the Western media, which can be described as a deep blow to the impact of Vietnamese catfish on the European market, especially Spain, a major importer.

Today, the export trade of Vietnamese catfish in Europe is in a relatively stable stage, and exports to the Netherlands and Belgium have increased slightly, mainly due to the higher price of salmon, which has forced Dutch consumers to choose other alternatives, and catfish happens to be a better choice.

Vietnamese catfish exports to the United States still face many challenges, on the one hand, high trade tariffs, and strict customs inspections are also a problem for exporters. The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety Oversight Service (FSIS) said that since August 2, all Vietnamese catfish entering the United States will have to undergo FSIS re-inspection to enter the U.S. market, which will mean that Vietnamese exporters will have to pay more to get their goods to land in the United States, for which each container will have to pay about $7,000 for testing.

Vietnam's catfish industry said that although Europe and the United States continue to set "obstacles" for Vietnamese catfish exports, Vietnamese catfish exports in China and Japan have increased significantly, and China is now the largest buyer of Vietnamese catfish, and the development speed is also the fastest, which can fully make up for the loss of Vietnamese catfish exports in Europe.
