Wilkes helped the Team win its first championship in franchise history with the Golden State Warriors, then won three more rings with the Los Angeles Lakers in 1980, 1982 and 1985. He entered the Nye-Smith Hall of Fame in 2012, and his No. 52 jersey has been hung high above staples by the Los Angeles Lakers.

Although selected by the San Antonio Spurs as early as the second round of the 1999 NBA Draft, Manu Ginobili did not make his debut until the 2002–03 season, wearing a Spurs jersey. In the early days of the league, the leader of Argentina's golden generation found it difficult to adapt to the rhythm and style of the NBA, but Ginobili, known as the "demon knife", became an integral part of the Silver and Black Rotation from the second half of his rookie season.
