On October 15, the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Institute for Advanced Study of Shenzhen University (hereinafter referred to as "IAS") was held in the lecture hall of the Zhizhi Building of the university.
Over the past ten years, the Institute for Advanced Studies of Shenzhen University has faced the major tasks and challenges of the high-quality development of China's higher education, actively explored new models for the cultivation of top-notch innovative talents, and has trained 386 undergraduates, 88 graduate students and 200 outbound postdoctoral fellows, with an average employment rate of nearly 95%, a total of 548 scientific research projects at all levels have been approved, and 2,236 SCI papers have been published.

He has published 205 academic papers
It is reported that since 2021, IAS has shifted from the secondary selection method of Shenzhen University to the opening of the college entrance examination enrollment channel, and the admission scores of the four undergraduate enrollment majors in the physics group in Guangdong Province have been at the forefront.
IAS adheres to the educational concept of "people-oriented", and all staff implement the fundamental task of cultivating people with virtue in an all-round way. Attaching importance to the discipline foundation of "broad foundation", we have carried out the cultivation of top-notch talents in basic disciplines such as mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology in an all-round way, forming a complete training system for undergraduate, master's and doctoral degrees; Through the implementation of small classes, tutor system, bilingual teaching, and English curriculum reform, we have focused on cultivating students' critical thinking and scientific research and innovation capabilities, and the academic guidance has achieved remarkable results.
This kind of training method makes the students of the Institute of Advanced Studies often in a state of "running". On the basis of the previous courses, the "dual tutor" system implemented by IAS helps students to get in touch with scientific research projects as early as possible and enter the laboratory according to their own interests, so that many students become interested in scientific research.
The students of the college have published 205 academic papers in high-level journals such as Nature and Nature Communications, and won more than 100 awards such as the gold medal of the China International "Internet +" College Student Innovation Competition. In the past 10 years, IAS has trained 386 undergraduates, 88 graduate students and 200 outbound postdoctoral fellows.
Since its establishment, IAS has achieved an average employment rate of nearly 95% of its graduates, with 386 undergraduates and 248 first-time students enrolled in world-renowned universities such as Tsinghua University, Peking University, Oxford University, and Cambridge University. The employment rate of 2020-2022 graduates is 100%, and the first-time employment rate of 2023 and 2024 graduates is also more than 96%.
Rooted in basic disciplines and expanded interdisciplinary
Explore a new model for the cultivation of top-notch innovative talents
At the conference, Li Qingquan, Secretary of the Party Committee of Shenzhen University and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Han Zhichao, the first Dean of the Institute for Advanced Study, sent congratulations through video. Mao Junfa, President of Shenzhen University and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Vice Presidents Li Yonghua, Wang Yongcheng, Zhang Xiaohong and Zhou Hui attended the conference and delivered speeches.
Wu Qi, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and polymer physical chemist, Luo Yi, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and expert in semiconductor optoelectronic technology, Lu Xiancai, vice president of Nanjing University, Xu Xuemin, former vice president of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and dean of Zhiyuan College, Li Mo, deputy dean of the Institute of Frontier Interdisciplinary Research of Peking University, Professor Xia Weiliang, deputy dean of Zhiyuan College of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and other academic guests attended the conference and attended two sub-forums: the Basic Discipline Top-notch Talent Training Forum and the Frontier Interdisciplinary Science Research Forum.
Li Qingquan said that in the past ten years, IAS has taken root in basic disciplines, expanded interdisciplinarity, faced the major tasks and challenges of the high-quality development of China's higher education, actively explored new models for the cultivation of top-notch innovative talents, and strived to build IAS into a high-level characteristic college with "small-scale, high-level, interdisdislinary, foundation-oriented, research-oriented and international". Today, IAS has demonstrated its profound demeanor and advanced research strength in terms of team building, scientific research, and talent training.
In his speech, Mao Junfa expressed the hope that in the future, IAS will continue to take the science and engineering innovation experimental class as the starting point and teaching innovation as the starting point, actively carry out the reform and innovation of the training mode of top-notch talents in basic disciplines, and cultivate academic leading talents. Give full play to its unique advantages, vigorously promote interdisciplinary scientific research, and create a characteristic academic peak of the Institute for Advanced Study; We will further implement the international development strategy and continuously improve the level and influence of international education.
548 projects have been approved in the past ten years
He has published 2236 SCI papers
At the conference, Li Meng, Dean of the Institute for Advanced Study, introduced the situation of the college. He said that the Institute for Advanced Study has always adhered to the development model of "small but fine", and its scientific research output and project achievements have been outstanding, demonstrating the scientific research strength of the elite team. In the past ten years, the college has approved a total of 134 national scientific research projects (topics), of which 14 projects have a total funding of more than 1 million yuan, including 1 major research plan of more than 10 million yuan, a total of 548 scientific research projects at all levels have been approved, and 2,236 SCI papers have been published, demonstrating the outstanding achievements of the college in scientific research achievements.
Over the past ten years, the Institute for Advanced Study has continuously promoted the construction of high-level scientific research platforms and made advanced research contributions to the development of disciplines in Shenzhen University. The Research Center for Palaeal Biology of Shenzhen University was approved for establishment, and the Shenzhen Key Laboratory of Food Nutrition and Health (to be established), the Institute of Carbon Neutrality of Shenzhen University, the Institute of Microbiology of Shenzhen University-Guangdong Academy of Sciences-Institute of Microbial Safety and Health, the Space Science Center of Shenzhen University, and the Research Center for Synthetic Biology of Shenzhen University have also been approved for establishment. The college's first provincial platform, the Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Marine Microbiome Engineering, has also been approved for establishment recently.
