Ma Changli: An interesting story about Li Duokui, a Peking Opera performance artist

author:Pear Garden Magazine

I have a special love for Mr. Li Duokui's singing art, and I liked it very much when I was in the Rongchun Social Science Class, and later I got to know Mr. Li, and I was with Mr. Li in the Beijing Peking Opera Troupe, and I had the honor of performing on the same stage and receiving Mr. Li's teachings, which was really beneficial.

I remember that the first time I cooperated with Mr. Li was at the Beginning of the Year in 1954 at the Zhonghe Theater to perform "Dragon and Phoenix Chengxiang", I played Qiao Xuan and Lu Su, Mr. Tan Fuying played Liu Bei, Mr. Qiu Shengrong played Zhang Fei, Mr. Zhang Hongxiang played Sun Quan, and Mr. Li played Wu Guotai. At that time, I had not yet studied drama with Mr. Ma Lianliang, but I still made serious preparations for cooperation with these famous artists.

After the performance, Mr. Li said to me, "You're a good boy!" Very skilled, with whom to learn ah? I said, "I learned this play in the class with Teacher Zhang Shenglu."

 "Oh, who are you enlightened?"

"It is Teacher Wang Shaofang, the son of Mr. Wang Huifang!"

Mr. Li listened and nodded, thinking that my foundation was very solid.

In 1954, in Shanghai, Mr. Li wanted to perform "Snow Cup Round", and the comrade in charge of the performance asked me if I could accompany Mr. Li to sing, and I said "no problem". Before the performance, Mr. Li asked me, "Grandpa, where did you learn it?" ”

I said, "I learned from Mr. Chen Shaowu at the Rongchun Society." ”

 "That can't be wrong!"

So we simply got right and went on stage! At the end of the performance, Mr. Li was very happy: "No bad, your voice is really good, wait for the opportunity to take a photo together with our grandfather and son in the future." "But after saying that, our grandfather and son never had the opportunity to perform this play together again, so they didn't realize this wish."

Since then, I have become more familiar with Mr. Li, when I often hang my throat and hang the "old eyes are dizzy and difficult to walk" section in "Ma On Shan", ending with "The white-haired man sent the body of the black-haired child, my son!" After Mr. Li listened to it, he said "My son", which is very good, and to this day I have been singing according to what Mr. Li said to me.

One night Chinese New Year's Eve, the Central People's Radio asked me to record, and not long after arriving at the radio station, I saw that Mr. Li had also come. Mr. Lee said, "Did you record it too?" What kind of drama? I said, "With Mr. Tan and Mr. Qiu's "Catch and Release Cao." Mr. Lee nodded.

On that day, Mr. Li and Mr. Ci Shaoquan recorded the whole "Fishing for Golden Turtles", and Mr. Li and Mr. Ci finished recording in one go, and I stood there and listened to it. Because it is a recording, the "introduction" and "recitation" are slightly different from the stage performance, but they are also very good. When recording, Mr. Li was meticulous and admired my spirit of being serious and responsible for art.

In 1960, he performed "Silang Visiting Mother" at the Soviet Exhibition Hall, Mr. Zhang Junqiu's Iron Mirror Princess, my Yang Yanhui, Mr. Ren Zhiqiu's Empress Xiao, Mr. Li Siguang's uncle, and Mr. Li Duokui's She Taijun. I was riding my bike to the theater. At the end of the performance, the person in charge said to me: "Your bicycle has been ridden back for you, you and Mr. Li can ride back in the car!" Sitting on the car, Mr. Li said: "The old student with whom I cooperate with this play is (Yang) Baosen, but the audience is still welcome, there is no laughter, there is no pouring, and then it is you, you sing I am quite satisfied, but you still have to work hard, what needs you to find me, we don't have to say." ”

Li Duokui's "Taijun CiChao"

Once, I went to Shenyang with Mr. Li, Mr. Tan Fuying and Mr. Qiu Shengrong to perform "Playing the Dragon Robe" by Mr. Li and Mr. Qiu. After the play back to the hotel, Mr. Li and Mr. Qiu were very excited after the performance, they chatted in the house, I was young and sleepy, I wanted to go back to the house to sleep, but I was still called to their house by Mr. Li, I sat in the house to listen to the old people chatting.

After chatting for a while, Mr. Li said to Mr. Qiu: "Grandpa, you are not as angry as me, do you believe me?" Mr. Qiu said he didn't believe it. Mr. Lee asked him to pull down the electric light (at that time, it was the kind of electric lamp that could come down with one drag). Mr. Li said: "Let's shout a 'oh' one by one, lengthen the tone, and see who has the long time." Mr. Li and Mr. Qiu shouted one by one! After shouting for a while, I heard someone in the courtyard singing: "Listen to the six more in the building." Mr. Qiu hurriedly said, "Grandpa, let's take it!" Mr. Tan is not happy there..."

It has been nearly forty years since Mr. Li Duokui passed away, but whenever I think back to Mr. Li's voice and smile, it is really in front of me, and now I am also an old man in my eighties, but I can still often recall the amiable and respectable second uncle!
