Dear food lovers, whenever we talk about food, it is not only a taste enjoyment, but also an emotional sustenance and a comfort for the soul. Food is like an old friend, always able to give us a warm embrace with its unique charm when we need it most. Today, let's walk into the delicious world of flower chicken and feel the unique charm it brings!
The history of calling Huazi can be traced back to the end of the Ming Dynasty and the beginning of the Qing Dynasty, according to legend, there was a person named Huazi, who got a chicken by chance, but he had neither cooking utensils nor seasonings. So he slaughtered the chicken, removed the internal organs, wrapped it in lotus leaves, coated it with mud, and put it in a fire to simmer. Unexpectedly, after this unique treatment, the chicken became fragrant, tender and juicy. Later, this practice gradually spread, and after continuous improvement, it became today's called flower chicken.
There are several key factors that make it delicious. First of all, the chicken breed is very important, generally three yellow chicken or local chicken is better, because their meat is tender and elastic. Secondly, the lotus leaves that wrap the chicken can give the chicken a unique fragrance. In addition, the outer layer of soil should be selected with good stickiness, so as to maintain a good seal during the roasting process and lock in the moisture and aroma of the chicken.
Although the name "called Huaji" sounds a little rustic, it is full of the breath of life and rustic charm. It's not like the ornate names of the dishes, full of embellishments and exaggerations, but tells you in the most direct way that the uniqueness of this dish lies in its originality and purity.

Wrap the chicken wrapped in lotus leaves and wrap it in batter about 1 cm thick.

Cooking tips
- The longer the chicken is marinated, the more flavorful the chicken will become, and it is recommended to marinate for at least 2 hours.
- The baking time should be adjusted appropriately according to the size of the chicken and the power of the oven to ensure that the chicken is cooked through.
- When wrapping lotus leaves and batter, try to seal them as much as possible to prevent moisture loss.
- You can add some liquor to the batter to increase the flavor.
- If you don't have an oven, you can also grill it over charcoal, but pay attention to the heat to avoid burning.
