Zhang Yuhua, a "good man in Jiangsu": Ten years of good deeds to lead 300 people to help poor students

BEIJING, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) -- In 2011, Zhang Yuhua, a villager in Shuangxin Village, Duntou Town, Hai'an City, Jiangsu Province, launched a public welfare assistance project. In the past 10 years, the project has built a "love bridge" between Hai'an City in Jiangsu Province and Pengyang County in Ningxia, which is more than 1,700 kilometers apart, and sent love thousands of miles away to Xihaigu, which is "barren world".

It is not difficult for one person to do a good deed alone, but it is difficult for a group of people to do a good deed together. Initially, Zhang Yuhua studied alone. At present, more than 200 people have participated in the "Suning Love Home" public welfare project taken from jiangsu and Ningxia two place names, which means "Jiangsu and Ningxia are one", and paired up to help more than 300 poor students in Pengyang County, Ningxia. They each subsidize 200-500 yuan per month, and give support from life, study, psychology and other aspects until the child finishes his studies.

In the past 10 years, Zhang Yuhua himself has traveled to Pengyang Mountain district in Ningxia more than 60 times, spending more than 500,000 yuan in total; the love team has donated nearly 5 million yuan to poor students in Pengyang, Ningxia. So far, more than 20 poor students in Pengyang, Ningxia, with the help of Zhang Yuhua and the love team, have walked out of the mountains and been admitted to universities.

It all started with a meeting that conveyed goodwill. In 2010, Zhang Yuhua, who has been engaged in the catering industry for many years, formed a pair with Liu Yuyu, a poor student in Pengyang County, through a newspaper, to support her, subsidizing her study and living expenses of 300 yuan per month, and regularly buying some daily necessities for study and daily necessities and mailing them to her. In the Spring Festival of 2011, Zhang Yuhua rushed to Caomiao Township in Pengyang County to visit Liu Yuyu's family living in a cave on the mountain. Seeing that there are high mountains, rough roads, drought and lack of water, relatively backward economy, and many children living in cave dwellings in difficult situations, Zhang Yuhua feels deeply, and his mood cannot be calm for a long time, and he wants to do what he can for them. Back in Hai'an, Zhang Yuhua initiated the establishment of a public welfare project and established a Love WeChat group.

For these unrelated and unrelated children, in addition to the regular monthly funding, Zhang Yuhua and the caring members bring condolences and condolence money every year to visit their homes. Liu Fei, a poor student in Pengyang, has suffered from congenital neurofibroma since he was a child, resulting in his face deformity like a "man with an elephant face". He was unable to be treated in time because of his family's poverty, and if he continued to delay, it would be life-threatening. Zhang Yuhua sought medical treatment for Liu Fei in many ways, and organized a donation of 150,000 yuan, and finally decided to treat Liu Fei in the Ninth People's Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. From contacting the hospital, handling hospitalization procedures to inviting treatment experts, Zhang Yuhua took the lead in handling it, and he went to Shanghai five times to discuss related treatment matters. The day before the operation, Zhang Yuhua led 20 caring people to drive more than 200 kilometers to the Shanghai Blood Center, donated 3800 ml of blood for Liu Fei, and also organized a donation of 6300 yuan on the spot.

In the past 10 years, the public welfare assistance project initiated by Zhang Yuhua has achieved the "three synchronizations" of economic assistance, poverty alleviation and intellectual support, and funding and education. On July 26, 2020, Zhang Yuhua led a team of love to Pengyang County, Guyuan City, Ningxia, to carry out activities such as poverty alleviation and wisdom alleviation, teaching assistants and education assistance, and helped alleviate poverty with love. On this trip, he also brought nearly a thousand herb mulberry seedlings from Hai'an, which were donated to Zhangjie Village, Caomiao Township, Pengyang County, and opened up a "trial planting field".

Hai'an and Ningxia Pengyang are separated by thousands of mountains and rivers, because of 10 years of help, they have formed a deep friendship, and gradually evolved into family affection, Zhang Yuhua and other caring people have repeatedly funded to invite Ningxia children to come to Hai'an to play. At the end of last month, more than 20 teachers, students and parents in Pengyang County, Ningxia were invited to come face-to-face, hand in hand and heart to heart with caring people involved in public welfare projects.

"Doing good is a joy, like storing happiness in a bank, and when I'm old, I'll take a lot of good memories." Zhang Yuhua, 51, said. In fact, doing good is not just a memory, but also a glow of appreciation and praise. In December 2019, Zhang Yuhua was awarded the title of "National Advanced Individual Industrial and Commercial Household", and during the ten years of charity, he successively won the honorary titles of "Jiangsu Good Man" and "Provincial Private Economy Care for the Next Generation of Work Advanced Individual". The project "Suning Love Home" organized by him was also commended as "Excellent Charity Project of Hai'an County" and won the Bronze Award of the Second Jiangsu Volunteer Service Exhibition and Exchange Conference.
