Red "traces" recall the blood battle of the Thunder Temple in the memory of Major General Zhang Yuhua (VII).

At the 2015 "9.3" Victory Day military parade, an old man made a deep impression with a standard military salute; at the end of the 2016 Lunar Year Monkey Spring Festival Gala "General and Soldier" sketch, the old man was supported to stand up in a wheelchair and gave a solemn military salute to the audience. This old man is Zhang Yuhua, a heroic major general who has fought all his life for national independence and national liberation, and a "good man of China" who cares about the people and devotes himself to public welfare.

Zhang Yuhua, a native of Wendeng County, Shandong Province (now Wendeng District, Weihai City), was born in 1916. After graduating from the prefectural first elementary school, he was admitted to Rongcheng Normal School at the age of 16, and taught in elementary school for 4 years after graduation. He joined the Communist Party of China in 1935. In 1964, he was promoted to major general, the Order of Independence and Freedom, Second Class, the Liberation Medal, Second Class, and the Order of Merit of the Red Star, First Class. He fought for half his life, made many military achievements, and participated in many fierce battles, and the Battle of the Temple of Thunder was the first fierce battle he encountered in the revolution.

After the July 7 Incident in 1937, the Kuomintang warlord Han Fuyu, who ruled Shandong, fled without a fight. On February 3, 1938, Japanese Marines landed in Yantai, and on the 5th, the Japanese army first occupied Muping City. In order to combat the arrogance of the Japanese Kou, on February 13, Li Qi, secretary of the Jiaodong Special Committee of the CPC and commander of the Third Army of the Shandong People's Anti-Japanese Salvation Army, led a large team of the three armies to liberate Muping City in one fell swoop.

After conquering the county seat of Muping, the large army moved south with the captives, and Li Qi and other leading comrades held a meeting at the Lei Temple in the south of the city, and Zhang Yuhua, who was then the instructor of the first squadron of a large detachment of the Third Army, was also among them. Soon after arriving at the Temple of Thunder, the sky sounded the rumbling of aircraft engines. "The plane flew very low and slowly, but neither dropped bombs nor strafed the ground, but circled repeatedly. Li Qi was experienced in combat, and as soon as he saw the enemy plane flying so strangely, he immediately whispered: 'No, this is the enemy reconnaissance, let's hurry up and meet!' Zhang Yuhua recalled.

Soon, a large group of Japanese soldiers surrounded them, and the three outer three layers surrounded the Thunder Temple. At that time, a large team was only formed for more than 50 days, and the team of more than 20 people was equipped with most of the weapons were large knives and spears, and the guns were only about 10 poles. The Marine Corps of more than 100 Japanese troops has not only been on the battlefield for a long time, but also has "armed to the teeth" in equipment.

At 12 noon, a bloody battle began.

"One of our sharpshooters ambushed the inside of the South Gate and knocked down the enemy's machine gunners with one shot, and the mighty devils came up and suffered a great loss, thinking that the temple had a large army and heavy weapons of our army, and stopped for a full 10 minutes before launching the second round of charge." Recalling the course of the battle, Zhang Yuhua still remembered vividly, "This time in the exchange of fire, we took advantage of the terrain, and without wasting ammunition, we repelled the devils. ”

At about 2 p.m., Li Qi was in the courtyard to give command, but unexpectedly, a row of Japanese bullets suddenly hit, and Li Qi was hit three times in the abdomen, and immediately fell in a pool of blood. Zhang Yuhua and the warriors hurriedly carried Li Qi to the back garden of the Thunder Temple, temporarily avoiding enemy fire. "Although Li Qi was seriously injured, she still endured severe pain and encouraged everyone." Recalling this unforgettable scene in his life, Zhang Yuhua's voice is still full of pain and excitement: "He reminded us again and again with a weak voice, save bullets, guard the temple gate, persist until dusk, and break through at night." ”

The enemy was cunning and ferocious, after several unsuccessful attacks, they threw incendiary bombs at the temple, and the temple suddenly burst into flames, and even the south hall collapsed; and the fire was getting more and more fierce, and a piece of tin rain plate with an area of only 0.8 square meters on the outer window of the east wing was pierced with 138 bullet holes, and the existing stone tablets and stone foundations in the temple were also covered with scales and bullet marks. However, in the face of the almost desperate combat situation, in the face of the wounds and sacrifices of commanders and comrades-in-arms, the soldiers' immense grief and anger turned into revenge bullets to shoot at the enemy, repelling the Japanese army's attacks again and again, the enemy suffered heavy casualties, but never stepped into the temple.

After 5 hours of fighting, the sky gradually darkened, a large group of grenades had been shot out, and there were few bullets left. At this time, gunshots suddenly rang out in the southeast direction of the Lei Temple, and it turned out that Zhang Jianxun' troops, who had previously agreed to attack Muping City together, were responding in the distance. The Japanese army heard the sound of gunfire, thought that a large number of reinforcements had arrived, and did not dare to fight. The commanders and fighters fought and retreated, rushed out of the layers of the Japanese army, and got out of danger, at this point, the battle of the Thunder Temple came to an end.

The Battle of Lei Temple fired the first shot of the Jiaodong War of Resistance, and the commanders and fighters of the three armed forces defeated the siege of the Japanese army with a small number of people and weapons, breaking the myth of the invincibility of the Japanese army, greatly invigorating the military prestige of our army, and greatly encouraging the confidence of the people of Jiaodong in the victory of the War of Resistance.

However, on the way to the transfer, Li Qi, who was the secretary of the Jiaodong Special Committee and the commander of the "three armed forces", was seriously injured and unfortunately died at the age of 30. This made Zhang Yuhua sad: "I personally carried Li Qi out of the bullet-filled Thunder Temple, listened to his voice inspiring the warriors, and did not expect that he could not see the day of our victory, and his voice and smile still remain in my heart." ”

After retiring in 1986, Zhang Yuhua was not satisfied with the life of unloading his armor and returning to the field and recuperating for a long time, but took out a large amount of salary income every month to do charity and give help to those who needed help. On May 2, 2012, Zhang Yuhua's deeds of dedication to charity over the years were reported by People's Daily. Zhang Yuhua himself was also named "China's Good Man" by CCTV in 2012. At 2:37 a.m. on September 10, 2017, Zhang Yuhua died of illness in Nanjing at the age of 101.
