What kind of chemical reaction will occur when high-precision instruments meet scientific and technological workers who are good at discovering beauty?
On May 15th, the "Discover the Beauty of Science" Songshan Lake Ultra Micro Photography Exhibition was launched. 50 romantic scenes observed by scientific research instruments were presented in freeze frames, and scientific and technological workers, students and teachers from various scientific research institutions and schools in the park, such as the China Spallation Neutron Source, Songshan Lake Materials Laboratory, the University of the Greater Bay Area (in preparation), Dongguan Institute of Technology, and Songshan Lake No. 2 Primary School, participated in the shooting.
In the next month and a half, the exhibition will enter the Songshan Lake Science Conference, Tonghu Corridor, and primary and secondary schools in the park, igniting the enthusiasm of friends of all ages for science and art. Among them, the 2024 Songshan Lake Science Conference will open on May 25, focusing on "large model embodied intelligence", which will set off another "AI storm".

Chen Hu, a researcher at the University of the Greater Bay Area, took an electron microscope image of the composite cathode material of a lithium-sulfur battery "Bird's Nest" and won the Outstanding Work Award. In the photo, 14,000x magnification by electron microscopy, the microporous carbon sphere is shaped like a bird's egg, surrounded by richly textured sulfur-containing components.

"I usually take thousands of pictures through the instrument to check the morphology of the materials and confirm the research effect, and I often find that in the microscopic world, many scenes are similar to things in life, and "Bird's Nest" seems to tell a story of life."
The China Spallation Neutron Source, a large scientific device known as the "Super Microscope", also appears in this exhibition. Jiang Xingxing, an assistant researcher at the Spallation Neutron Source, photographed the colorful "Songhu Lychee" and "Struggling Little Motor" through a high-resolution neutron imaging detector.

"We can directly observe the internal structure of the device with a neutron beam without disassembling the mechanical device, while in biology, neutron imaging can study the internal tissue structure and dynamics of plants. It is hoped that the exhibition will allow more people to understand the functions of large installations and solve more practical problems. ”
The exhibited works also include the results of elementary school students' discoveries in club classes. "Honey Hidden Needle - Calcium Oxalate Crystals in Pineapple" comes from Songshan Lake No. 2 Primary School, under the microscope, the "embroidery needle" in the pineapple film explains the reason for eating pineapple "pricking the mouth".

The event is hosted by the Songshan Lake Science and Technology Innovation Bureau, the Songshan Lake Party Building Work Office, and the Songshan Lake Publicity, Education, Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau, and will meet the public at the Tonghu Auditorium in early June.
